I'm curious how is it from a POV of someone from the US since for certain models, the cellular iPad experience was different for those in the US and those in other countries.

I recently found my old iPad 2 in a drawer in my garage. It had been sitting in that drawer for over 6 years, but I charged it to 100% and somehow the battery lasted over 2 weeks! I barely used it, but the fact that it was completely dead for years yet still has pretty decent battery life is extremely impressive to me.

Actual garbage. Not just the 10.5 inch Pro, but the 10.5 inch Air were both plagued with screen issues. A lot of people I guess just don’t notice or care, but they were pretty much guaranteed to get yellow smudging at some point. I had 5, all replaced under warranty, with varying issues. And this is Apple, if they think you farted too hard in the same room as one of their devices they won’t replace it.

The iPad 6 was a pretty big deal in the art community when it came out. Decent drawing tablets where you can draw on the screen were always pretty overpriced, and the art software often wasn’t much better. Apple coming out with a competitively priced high quality drawing tablet along with the much cheaper software on the App Store was a welcome surprise, plus it’s got all the other features of an iPad.

It also doesn't help that despite performing worse than the iPhone 4S at every turn it *still* got iOS 9 (which was already abysmal on the 4S), which led to my iPad 3 becoming quite literally unusable in most apps, crashing to home in every web browser and freezing in practically all apps (even in the home screen itself)

@@TurboPikachu The A5 chip was honestly a pretty crappy cpu. it was only good on ios 5 and 6. iOS7 was usable but slow and as soon as iOS 8 came out it was ruined, then iOS 9 was just adding insult to injury.

@@9852323 Later A_X chips had at least some bit of perceivable performance gains, but the A5X really did just feel like a base A5 struggling to drive the 1536p display. The marketing felt like snake oil, and I never really stopped being skeptical about the whole A_X chip thing with later iPads; even the masses caught on to the diminishing returns with the A12 vs the A12X vs the A12Z. Now that we have the M1 and M2 I feel like those days should be behind us, as long as iPad Pros that get the M_ Pro chips have similar boosts over the base M_ chips that their Mac counterparts have

I completely agree with the iPad 10 being in f. They removed the headphone jack and home button and then made it much more expensive which defeats the purpose of a budget tablet. it was also nice to have the old design available for those who want it and they could've kept it around a few more years. luckily they still sell the iPad 9 so I'm gonna buy one after Christmas this year.

My first iPad was the iPad Air in November 2013. I upgraded to the iPad Air 2 in April 2015, and then upgraded to the 12.9” iPad Pro at launch in November 2018, which I’m still using today. All 3 iPads I’ve owned have been incredible value to me, and my iPad Pro still feels ahead of it’s time 4 years later, with me having no intention of upgrading to any of the new iPad Pro’s anytime soon. The 2018 iPad Pro is probably the best iPad ever made, taking into account its new design, and how well it has aged after 4 years, and still feeling like a brand new iPad with what is pretty much very similar to the newest ones.

Nice tier list, I think you made some very fair and solid points. Personally the iPad mini 6 is a solid S tier for me (I’ve had it since launch), and I’ll explain why:
    - I’m someone who values portability a lot. Using this thing along with the 2nd gen Apple Pencil and an aftermarket keyboard case is an absolute joy. Whenever I’m travelling I can draw and write really well without any issues and without having to carry a laptop. Honestly, I actually prefer using Procreate on this tiny screen than using my dedicated graphics tablet screen and photoshop when I’m at home.
    - I think people often make a false correlation between screen size and price. The fact that it’s smaller while offering similar features to the bigger iPads is THE defining factor for a lot of people, even if there are bigger and cheaper options. I’d say that before the price bump this thing’s features were absolutely worth the price.
    - This thing having an A15 means it will likely be supported for a long time, since even the base iphone 14s still have it.
    - Are there cons? Of course, I’d love a 120hz mini led display and I definitely miss the headphone jack. As a designer, I also feel like the UI isn’t quite optimised for the size. However, these aren’t really dealbreakers for me, considering the price.
I’m still super happy with it and I don’t plan on upgrading anytime soon 😁

Cellular iPad Mini 6 is the Best. Better modem than M1 iPads at a significantly more affordable price. Too bad it lost the headphone jack but it's easier to accept given the trend.

iPad 2 was my first tablet and had no complaints with it. It basically replaced the mini laptop that I had using before it. After getting an iPhone 4S, the lower resolution of its non-Retina display started to become more obvious. I replaced it with Air 1 and agree it was an excellent device. My mom is still using it for basic things like checking Facebook. I replaced the Air with a 10.5" Pro. A solid device, but not a mind-blowing upgrade. I bought the Pencil with it and never used it. The Promotion display was its best feature. Finally, I have an Air 4. I knew I was buying middle of the road and that is what it is. I don't use a tablet that much anymore, so that is why I didn't buy a Pro model. Overall, for the 4 iPads I have owned, I would agree with their rankings on the list.

My very first tablet/iPad was the 2017 5th Generation iPad. Man, I loved that device and it made me realize why tablets are so popular. I gave it to my nephew and it's still working great. Still vey smooth and snappy. In early 2020, I upgraded to the iPad Air 3. And while it is an absolutely capable machine, I have a love-hate relationship with it. I guess, it has something to do with my timing. I bought it a month before the 2020 iPad Pro was released and to my disappointment, the price difference between the two wasn't substantial. So had I waited just a few weeks, I would've been able to buy an iPad with the sleeker design. That being said, I think the iPad Air 3 is a still a fantastic tablet. It got me through the height of the pandemic and almost three years after, it is still very fast and smooth.

My first iPad was the (2017) 5th Gen base model. I never had a use case for a iPad, but figured at that price ($250 Black Friday Deal), It was worth a look. And I loved it! Found many use cases that only kept growing as the years went on. Loved it so much I bought both my parents one too!
As the years passed, I wanted more features it lacked, faster speeds to handle games and programs. I would have bought the M1 iPad Pro, but wanted a 11" model with a mini LED display. Waited and here we are still lacking that with the M2, and really nothing really "new" compared to the M1. But I upgraded - and I do love the M2 a lot.
My iPad's are used daily, and love them. A very handy tool for me.

Same tbh. I never had a tablet so in 2014 my mom bought me a samsung s2 tablet, I traded it for money and bought the Sony xperia z tablet, well I ended up trading it, a laptop, and ipod for a new iPhone 6. I took that iphone 6 and traded it to Verizon plus my iPhone 4 and got the xperia z3v phone and xperia z2 tablet free plus bose speakers, cases, screen protectors free lol. Well my ex gf broke both lol. And I ended up having to start from scratch, so I bought a iPhone 7 for 100$, traded it to Verizon for 400$ off of the iPhone X, and it was bogo and the ex gf wanted a iPhone 8 plus which she got free. So I got the tablet a few months later, and when the s7+ tablet came out I got 200$ trade in for the exact same tablet the iPad 5 329$. So I got the full value from it. Now I just got the m2 ipad Pro because it was the same price everywhere I looked as the m1 for same gig, size, and cellular capabilities. So I went for m2.

My first tablet was the original iPad. Yes, I was an iPad kid. (Not to the extent of the stereotypical iPad kid, but I was an iPad kid.) However it eventually started bootlooping and while we were trying to fix it one of us (can't remember who) elbowed the thing and it went crashing and shattering onto the floor. Later down the line I had gotten the iPad Air 1 and it was a really great tablet! I had actually never updated it to iOS 11 until the last couple years of it's life and I regret that I ever did, since it would have been worth money since it ran stock software. Anyway, yeah, I got the iPad Air 4, sadly just before they announced the iPad Air 5 with M1, but whatever. It's a rock solid tablet that works fantastic with the Apple Pencil 2nd gen that I use to take notes, study and sometimes draw with.
BTW - I can tell from the comments that everyone has either owned the original iPad, the iPad 2 , or the iPad Air. Those were some of the most popular models.

My first iPad was the iPad Air 2. It has the best A series chip and camera at that time. The Air line was so good before the Pro line came out, it was the flagship. I do think that all the iPads in the Air lineup deserve a minimum B tier as they are the best value-performance iPads. It always gives the up-to-date technology and design with a huge cut down in price. The Pro has 50% more price while its utility is only 15% more than the Air . If you're not an Artist, the Air and the Pro are basically the same.

I have an iPad mini 5, so I was ready to gripe about your rating. I chose instead of both the iPad 8 and Mini 6. And I have really lived it. It was a huge improvement over my Mini 2 and my Air 2. But then I recalled that I got it just before it was dropped for $299, at which price it was a steal! I like the old fashioned bevels because I am old and they are familiar, and the earphone jack is very important to me.

Just to add to your point on the camera for the ipad 9, not only it had a 12MP selfie cam, it was an ultrawide cam but it also brought center stage so it was the perfect zoom/facetime tablet for a cheap price. def a huge value proposition for most people
Edit: for the ipad 10, you forgot to mention the fact they moved the smart connector elsewhere and they went out of their way to make a keyboard just for it specifically (charging $200+?) instead of using what the other ipads are using so that’s what reinforces it at F tier

As an owner of an Air 2, it is in a league of its own. Best value for money 100%.
Only place I would disagree with your ranking would be the M2 pro. I don’t think the M2 chip actually added anything to the experience that M1 didn’t already have, so E or at most D imo

Very much agree with your rankings. Have given my wife the Air 1, Mini 1, 2021 Pro 12.9 M1, and the 2019 iPad 7 over the years. The only one of those that wasn't really great was the iPad 7. The others were truly outstanding devices with my wife's current one (2021 Pro 12.9 M1) being a great 2-1 device as I got it with the Logitech detachable keyboard for her.

Finally an iPad tier list! Loved watching the video. Also, it was enlightening as to why I felt iPad fatigue these last few years. I'm usually such a huge fanboy that I can remember any spec and spec change of an iPad, but the yearly budget iPads completely overran my dedication and it's weird to see how they céderai my don't refrain from upgrading an iPad anymore. I guess it's better for consumers, but as a fan, I really would be fine with fewer releases 😄
I mostly agree with your choices, with a few exceptions:
    - iPad mini 5 and 6 and Air 4 and 5 should be one rank higher. Basically the minis are expensive because they have great specs and I'm a fan of the value proposition of the new Air line.
    - You're harsh on the iPad 10. No matter its flaws it can't be as worthless as the iPad mini 3. I would put it in E tier for the same reasons you did.
    - iPad mini 2 is S tier in my eyes because it's when the form-factor peaked in relevancy, and value. Following iPad minis further confine themselves in a niche while the second-gen was mass market AF.

My first ipad was the mini 4 which I got for uni, after having the cheapest ever android tablet for a year or so (it was literally about £60 on amazon, it was terrible lol). Traded the ipad mini 4 into the apple store after about 3 or 4 years for an ipad 8th gen for the bigger screen and I'm definitely happy with it, I love the burnished rose gold-ish colour. matches the macbook i got recently and goes with my gold ipod touch too so it's all very satisfying lol. I didn't get a tablet for the longest time because i just didn't see the point of them, but idk there's just something convenient with being able to watch things on the ipad, especially with the split screen feature so i can have youtube and twitter/messenger open at the same time.

Looking at the placement of the budget iPads, I'd call the placements accurate. While there's an argument to be made that the 6th Gen iPad could be in A Tier for the price to performance, B is still fitting. Especially for the education market, and aspiring artists.
And putting the M1 iPad Pros are easily an A Tier product. In fact, Best Buy's selling them for $150-$400 off, depending on the model.

I still use the iPad Pro 9.7 inch, it was actually the first iPad to come with a 12MP rear camera and a True Tone display, a 5MP front camera (better than the 12.9 inch’s 1.2MP camera) and despite the 2GB of RAM, it's solid still. I'm not sure which iPad I will upgrade to next, but for the time being, it's working just fine for my gaming and streaming needs.

Couldn’t disagree more with the 10.5” iPad Pro being C tier. It is S tier in my opinion. Still using one to this day. It still has every nice feature one could need for an iPad. 120Hz display, quad speakers, slim design. I actually PREFER the design of the 10.5 over the 2018 and later models; thinner side bezels and I like having the “chins” for holding it. That iPad perfected what it means to be an iPad and every model since hasn’t really added anything game changing.

    • @_Digitalguy

the 10.5 pro is a great device except for those that got the ugly bright spot.... and there are many.... I still use mine regurly despite the weaker battery. Having said that, the 2018 was game changing in my opinion because of USB C and to a lesser extent also because of Pencil 2. The magic keyboard that came later is also very nice.

Technically my first iPad is, well, first iPad, the iPad 1. But the time when I actually seriously use iPad is iPad Pro 2018. Oh man. That iPad COMPLETELY changes how I treat iPhone in general, particularly because I hate notch. To this day, I keep talking to others how iPad has almost replaced iPhone except a few things (NFC, phone call and SMS).
For all American folks out there, phone call and SMS is still a THING anywhere else in the world so stop mocking.
Sadly, it has several issues preventing me from using it fully, namely the ghost touch issue. It's so random, so annoying, I visited Apple Store so many times. Then I take the jump and upgrade to one of those M1 iPad Pro, and almost every problem I face on 2018 iPad Pro goes away, plus better performance, and I get to reuse all of my existing accessories. It's a wonderful tablet and I use it anywhere I can. On the bed. Go out shopping. Short trip. Work. it can't replace laptop of any kind because of iOS (yes, I know it is called iPadOS but in reality it is just fancier iOS. Admit it), but for tablet stuff, it is amazing.

My first iPad was the iPad Mini 1st Gen. I got that thing back around 2012 or early 2013. That thing has so many battle scars from when it was being used back in it's heyday. It's been through so much during it's lifetime, been there throughout my whole time in elementary. I stopped using that iPad back in 2019 only because my parents took it away. I still have it now and god, I can't even imagine living with that thing today. Glad I stopped using it. I replaced it with the iPad 9 in November of 2021.

LOL, since I‘m currently thinking about getting an iPad, this is the perfect video to be uploaded right now. 😂
But I don’t really know what to choose, I‘m very unsure. I don’t have a high budget (I can’t afford a 900€ tablet, even 700 or 800 is very much for me). I need a storage that is at least 256GB (I have 256 GB on my phone and it’s 160 GB full after two years and I’m planning to use it as long as possible). The color is somewhat important for me, I wouln‘t really want to buy a gray, black or weird color iPad… I would prefer something like rosegold (my fav Apple device color), gold, silver (but white front, iPad 9 in silver looks weird to me), green, pink, blue… I prefer Touch ID in Homebutton over Face ID, but I prefer Face ID over Touch ID in the power button/side button. I absolutely don’t care about the camera as long as it has a camera. I‘d like to have it WiFi+Cellular, but it’s not really a must-have… I prefer lightning over usb c (but I don’t really care), but I don’t have a favourite between Apple pencil 1st or 2nd generation. I‘m not going to do heavy gaming (I don’t think I‘ll play any games) and not going to use it for school (I prefer paper and books). I‘ll mostly use it for watching TH-cam and drawing with Sketchbook App and Apple Pencil (not as a professional artist, but I want my drawings to look somewhat like drawn by a professional artist). I don’t care if it’s new or refurbished/used (I don’t even think I could afford a new iPad with the things I need). And of course I want it to get as much iOS versions as possible because I want to use it as long as possible. A different branded tablet is no option for me.
I found iPad Air 3 refurbished in ”excellent condition“ with 256 GB storage in gold for either around 600/700€ (WiFi) or 790€ (WiFi+cellular) online, is it worth it? Does anybody have any suggestions on iPads for me? Should I go for WiFi only or WiFi+cellular?
