Come on. Putting the first two iPhone on to such a low spots? It was revolutionary, and that was not some Apple marketing mumbojumbo. It changed the whole mobile industry, it introduces the concept of SMARTPHONE. I am from Central Europe and even my random friends bought iPhone 3G, that was the first time average people watched a video in a phone Gaming (simple games) was at a whole new level with touchscreen. It was the first time to have a real touchscreen phone with gestures, with finger tuch. Photo gallery was also something never seen before.
right away you are wrong. OG iphone wasnt the first no keyboard with on screen keyboard device, that's what steve jobs got everyone to think. Palm started the shape of modern phone in 1996 with palm pilot and pocket pc refined that form and then they added phone to that device in early 2000s.. It's just that these devices never really made it mainstream, instead they also did blackberry type smartphones, such as the ones steve jobs showed. I phone wasnt first with grid list apps either That said you are right Og iphone in 2007.. other than having fancy ui it was terrible. Had no appstore, no ability to record video.. it was a very limited feature phone at insane price of 500 and fully subsidized, and it was underclocked to save battery so sluggish performance too.. no way S tier.. apple didn't really figure it out until 4s.
I feel like the 5S in C is a bit harsh considering what it brought to the table. 64-bit, touch ID, 6 years iOS support, iOS 7. Entertaining video though!
Yup, 5s was soooooooo poorly placed in this tier list, it brought so many innovations to the lineup, and the immense support from Apple should put it at A at the very least, S tier in my book. My favorite iPhone of all time :)
I liked both your list and his list even if I disagreed with some choices here and there. You both make great videos about the history of technology (and iPhones in particular)
I have always thought that the 5S didn't get enough love. It was compact, had a headphone jack, 64 bit architecture, biometrics...it was the genesis of the "modern" iphone. While android had phones with better hardware, the 5S was so well optimized and well built that it is still supported today. I have since moved to android after multiple iphones; but the 5s continues to be the only one I miss.
Yes the design was already aging when it came out, but the size wasn’t necessarily a disadvantage. Even in todays market smaller iPhones continue to be made with the same 5S form factor. Granted, they don’t sell well - but at the time, even though phones were getting larger, it wasn’t all that uncommon for mobile devices to be 5S sized.
Man, you need to update this Tier List each year! It's great, brings back so many memories. Shoot an additional episode with introductions of 14|/15 lineups.
The 5S being that far down is literally unacceptable. It was such a good phone and for long years my daily driver (until I got my X after which my mother used it until very recently). It should at least be higher than the 5, as it's such a step up...
It did have a noticeably poorer battery life when compared to 5, I think in terms of design, it's the most aesthetically appealing iPhone ever, but it was by no means as great as like 11 Pro for example
The iPhone 11 also had a faster chip, 1GB more RAM, a bigger battery, the front camera went from 7mpx to 12mpx (so 4K video) and it launched at a cheaper price than the XR launched at
this dude doesnt know what he's talking about, he literally described it as "the XR with another camera". makes me believe he truly has no idea what he's talking about.
5S absolutely deserved a better tier than C. Despite the flawed release of iOS 7, it's a foundation of today's iOS, and it brought features we take for granted like biometrics.
6 higher than 6s? Must disagree. Even way back, it was a great change when started using the 6s. New touch ID generation, 3D touch and the speed was just on different level. Actually, still use it for some lighter stuff till today 📱
For me, 6s was my favorite phone ever. Extremely fast, amazing camera, super sleek and very elegant, 3D Touch is the feature I miss the most, my dad uses my 6s now. The biggest criticism I make about Apple is that base storage is a crime just to lower the sticker price. 16gigs when 6s was around was a serious joke. But I loved very much this phone. Special place in my heart.
And how is iphone 13 mini higher then iphone 12 mini?? For the same price It has wayyyy better battery can last u can extra year or 2, better cameras and twice the storage at starting price. Some people wouldn't had considered the iphone 12 mini for the battery alone but now that it has it should be higher then it. All that and it just released 1 year after it.
The iPhone XR had better battery life than the XS and XS Max… it was actually pitched as the best battery life ever in an iPhone at the time. Deserves to be much higher on the list.
@@demediastudio the screen is fine. Very fine. Not oled, not worth 800€ or whatever they asked, but still. Makes the battery last as much thanks for that.
The 5S is an S tier phone. It’s still the best looking iPhone, it was a major leap in speed, reliability (the 5 had many major reliability issues), with Touch ID in tow. The 6 next year was larger, but the phone itself looked worse and made the next many years look pretty bad.
Spot-on. 5s is the phone I never owned but now wish I had. Ditto the first SE model. I was still using a rock solid 4s at the time. Then bought a 6s instead for the larger screen but it's too slippery and dents easily with not great battery life.
I definitely wouldn’t say it’s the best looking iPhone at all. It was chunky with massive bezels. I used the phone for years and loved it but it certainly isn’t the best looking in my opinion.
Love my iPhone 11 Pro. Couldn’t agree more with Quinn on the midnight green color and how comfortable the rounded edges are compared to squared off ones.
iPhone 6 being higher than 6S is questionable. The 6S is probably the most reliable and long-lasting phone ever made, and still holds up today. The 6, however, was plagued with issues. I think the issue here is that you're largely basing this on how impressive and new they seemed at the time, rather than their actual objective quality.
@@snazzy That's true - but what I meant is their objective quality in relation to the time that were released (I should have specified that in the original comment). In other words, how good of a purchase they would have made at the time. This sounds similar - but is subtly different - from organizing by how big of an upgrade they were from prior models (as I believe you did at least partly in this list). With the former, for example, the 6S would be better than the 6 given its longevity and quality. With the latter, the 6 would be superior to the 6S given how much it changed, even if it would have been a worse phone to buy at its release when compared to the 6S.
@@snazzy the 6plus was definitely inferior to the 5s with regards to 1, RAM memory (1GB on such a high-res screen is woefully small; this made the 6plus THE phone to test for app crashes caused by RAM shortage) 2, bending.
The iPhone 6S’s durability overhaul was a HUGE DEAL when it came out, I remember TH-camrs tried dropping them from drones and the screen would still be working, unheard-of for an iPhone before that point. I think it should be ranked higher because it set the standard for iPhones being durable, something apple likes to advertise about nowadays.
honestly! I used the 6s for nearly six years, and it survived _well_ , especially considering how clumsy a person I am. in fact, the only reason I had to upgrade was because I needed more than 16 GB of space, and the battery health was suffering.
SE2016 is S tier. It stopped getting updates last year, but still gets security updates. Bring a battery pack and you are set. Only thing it is missing is water resistance.
The XR was my (Miles) first iOS daily driver and I absolutely loved it for the value. The display left much to be desired, but the speed and battery life was great for me. It's your list, but I would've given it a B at least. Great video, though!
The display is still better than every phone I had before it... It's solidly a B tier. Which is also where the 4s belongs. I've never seen one of these that wasn't shattered or brand new.
My first modern design iPhone till now, Well have to admit that the bezel is so thick compared with my LG V50, but i I let it slide for the sake even bezel and chin, and battery life
Same. But ios7 really made iphone 4slow and laggy so I got angry and switched to Android. I gave the iPhone 13 Pro a chance for 6 months but in this time Apple was already too far behind compared to Android.
I refuse to let my beloved iPhone 5s be dragged down be the failure that is the 5c. I still am trying to make sense how you connect the 5c to the 5s' tier placement, but my 5s was an absolute champ for 6 years, Touch ID was great and people still want it back on the new phones. Love that phone.
I still think the 5s deserves to be higher. It may not have brought a revolutionary design but it was industrial, and a classic. Its 4inch touchscreen was comfortable, although limited. What it lacked externally, it brought internally, and refined it. It’s why it lasted 6+ years and it STILL works! I think it should be at least A
I've been tempted to 'downgrade' my 12 Mini to the 11 Pro for the reasons you mentioned - green, battery and better hand feel. I liked those curved glass edges. The screen size is a great blend between the 12 Mini and 12/12Pro sizes. They got too big.
I considered getting an iPhone 11 Pro in 2019 because I’ve heard great things about the size. At $1k though, it was out of my budget for a phone. Using a 13 mini now and very satisfied with it.
@@cringycontent I begrudgingly bought a 2020 iPhone SE to hold me over back then because even the standard 11 was too big for my preference. Naturally, I was very happy when the iPhone 12 mini was announced. Finally, a small phone that’s up-to-spec with the bigger phones!! I ended up skipping the 12 mini due to budgetary reasons and got the 13 mini once it came out.
That’s my biggest problem with iPhone today. They’re too damn big! I’m rocking a 13 mini, and that’s what I’ll be using until Apple releases a new mini. To be honest, even the mini is a bit too big for me. I have to really reach to get to the top left corner. I would prefer some kind of iPhone nano that’s the size of an iPhone 5 with the full-screen design
I think it should be much higher on the list. Literally if you’re buying a new iPhone right now and price is similar or not a worry, there is no reason to buy any other phone lower than the 13. Like the 11 pro or even the 13 pro don’t have anything over the normal 13. It has great battery, better screen bcz of the smaller notch, new design, much better cameras compared to the 11 and basically an upgrade on everything. You only loose the LiDAR Scanner and the zoom lens but I don’t think it’s enough to outweigh the pros. Just for that reason I think it should be higher, they made a perfect iPhone time the masses and even pro users
Yeah I have a 12 mini and I feel the 13 mini should be S tier because it fixed basically all the problems with the 12. It’s the perfect mini iPhone so it should be S
Looks like you forgot the iPhone SE 2. haha. I do feel like you may have been a little harsh with the 12 Pro series, but I do agree with you that the iPhone 11 Pro series was BY FAR the best to hold. For whatever reason, even though the frame is stainless steel, and the back is frosted exactly the same, the 11 Pro series just feels SO much better than the 12 Pro. that being said, I LOVE my 12 Pro Max. It's got great battery life, the MagSafe mounts that I'm able to use in my car are very nice, and I just feel like it could have been a little higher up than D-Tier. Otherwise though, I 100% agree. that iPhone 5C was a terrible phone. The worst thing that Apple has made in the phone arena.
I see everybody loving the “hand feel” of the 11 pro, but I hate mine, it’s so fucking slippery I cannot use it without a case or I would be dropping it all the time.
3D Touch was definitely one of my favorite features, I cried when Apple removed it, haptic touch is pretty aight, it takes longer to execute and doesn’t feels as natural as using 3D Touch
Loved the video but some disagreements: I don't get how the 6S is placed in C. It improves on the 6 and is so loved that it is the longest supported iPhone to date with ~ 7 years of software updates and 6 iOS releases. Longevity alone should place it in S. I find the 12 and 13 models feel more secure in the hand than the X or 11 models but that's just my opinion. The 11 Pro is overrated IMO. Don't know if there is a running joke with the Z-flip but it doesn't belong anywhere near S-tier considering the still existent display issues.
I’ve owned almost every iPhone, the iPhons 6S was my favorite. For that time it was sooo good, fast, 3D Touch. S tier for me with X and 13 Pro Max (what an amazing battery)
My aunt uses my old iPhone 6s for her kids and random stuff. That thing has last two really messy kids and it’s running absolutely fine. For the time, loved that phone.
Yeah I feel like most 6s owners say the same thing. It’s odd how the 6s improved on everything in the 6 yet got a lower tier. I also don’t remember the battery life being terrible but I did have the +
This tierlist should specify that the ranking is based on the upgradeability based on the previous gen... I must say I found little no sense in the ranking itself, but the summary on what each phone was and introduced/removed was spot on
The iPhone 5s is at the very least an A tier phone! It had a perfect form factor, all the features most people needed/wanted, a fast CPU capable of handling any operation smoothly, a very competitive price point, and a great battery. To put that model in the C tier is an insult to one of the best iPhones ever.
I think the 5s is at least an A tier, it's still plenty fast on its last supported version of IOS, and truly was the first "Modern" iPhone. Its design was used all the way up to the SE 2016, and elements are still used in current iPhones with its thin, squared off sides
I disagree with what you said about the iPhone 11 it introduced the a13 which still holds up amazingly and is faster than some android phones coming out this year , extra ram ,12 mp and 4k 60 fps on the back and on the front camera, night mode , ultra wide camera, longer lasting battery life , better water resistant ip68,deep fusion ,100% Focus Pixels, and it was cheaper than the xr when the xr launched
No need for extra ram back then, xr is too 11 mp, 4k 60 doesn’t make sense on a 64 gb base storage phone, night mode was a gimmick consider the same main shooter on both. Basically Xr was a much better deal when 11 came
Pff, iPhone XR is S tier. I’m sitting watching this video in 2023. Just preordered a 15 Plus. But will never forget how much a trooper this phone was for me.
iPhone 6s was my first phone, and it was fantastic, it was faster than any android phones for 3 years straight, thanks to first implementation of nVMe storage in a phone ever. The phone is now 7 years old, and still works fine.
As the owner of a midnight green 11 pro max with (from the log-aggregated file) over 650 charge cycles & 20,000+ hours of battery operating time, I still get a respectable 7 hours of intensive use on a full charge, down from about 8.5 hours new. Battery life on this phone was and remains simply incredible and is definitely the one thing to set it above any other iPhone, completely agree with its S tier placing.
my company gave me an iPhone7 in 2019 as my companyphone but the small battery was such a pain in the a** :D since i upgraded my private phone from my 11ProMax to a 13ProMax i now use my private 11 for work and i just love it (i did get the Battery replaced through AppleCare in November tho just so that i can use it even longer) i had to charge my iPhone 7 one to two times a day, now with the 11 Pro Max i only charge it once per week i also loved the midnight green, its the best :D but i can definitly say that the 13 Pro Max is a beast, it doesnt feel as good as the 11 Pro Max but the battery life is insane i thought the battery of the 11 was crazy but its nothing against the new one
5 is higher than 5s? 6 is higher than 6s? Bro did u really use these phones? They both did reeeally nice upgrades and one of the best phones in apple history
I've never owned an iPhone until the 12mini but I can safely say the 5S deserves to be in the S tier. It was beautiful and that 64 bit processor was so far ahead of it's time that it made Qualcomm go back to the drawing board. It still gets support to this day with iOS 12.
I dont agree you giving an iphone 7 A, it was water resodtant and i dropped it 3 times in a row and it didnt even broke, so iphone 7 plus also had 24 MP camera and the iphone 7 plus should be S tier
I do think the Xr should have been higher up as it was such a good device, and still is incredibly widely used and supported. Its price, form factor and support have made it a really capable and accessible device. I'm still on an 11 Pro Max, that was such a turning point for me and honestly, I wouldn't want to move off this handset just yet. I'd sooner replace the battery than upgrade it for the time being.
3D Touch was a feature I didn’t realize how much I used and enjoyed until I upgraded from a XS to 13 Pro and lost it. I agree with you though that 3D Touch never fully realized it’s true potential
I don’t agree with the 7 and 8 placing, I feel they should be swapped, only reason I say that is because of the modem issues with basically EVERY 7 and I feel the 8 just improved on those shortcomings and that’s why I think it should be swapped personally
As Someone who actually owned both a 7 and an 8 I do remember my 8 hardly ever needing a visit to get an issue fixed at Verizon where my 7 did all the time
Completely agree - The iPhone 11 Pro was the best iPhone ever. It was a HUGE upgrade and the cameras put apple back at the top after years of mediocrity. And yes… MIDNIGHT GREEN!!! The lack of that colour actually stopped me going for the 13 pro initially! I really hope they bring it back.
@@Hello-nr7vy yeh its so nice - classic apple bringing out the one I would have gone for after already buying my 13 pro - appreciate this is a massive first world problem.
Some of these feel like odd choices tbh, but stuff's subjective! Surprised the 2016 SE made the list, but the 2020 didn't Some stuff that stood out: - the 4S was actually the first phone to shoot 1080p - the 6 was the first to do 1080p in slowmo - Raise to wake was an iOS 10 feature on A9 and later - the 5S is the longest supported phone if we include iOS 12 security updates, but the 6S will beat it out in the long run thanks to getting 6 full years of updates - from what I recall from reviews (and personal use) the 2016 SE actually had better battery life than the 6S thanks to the smaller screen
6S deserved to be higher than the 7 tbh-it was a much bigger upgrade from the 5S than the 7 was from it. I was using mine until this year when I got a Google Pixel, and it was still getting software updates. Just a beast of a phone
The 13 Mini’s definitely up there as one of my faves and I’m sad to see the Mini line go so soon because it has been *awesome* to go back to smaller design
good news is apple are releasing their new iphone se 3rd.let's hope that could design like iPhone X but way smalier than it.I'm sure it will sell well.
I think that's where a lot of the disagreement will come from. Those of us who don't value innovation as much as reliability are really going to prefer S models.
The iPhone XR and iPhone 11 sub-1080p panels were pretty much the best lcd panels on smartphones. They looked better than most, if not all, 1080p android lcd phone screens.
You didn’t review iPhone SE 2020 when this video came out! Good thing I checked the description because I would’ve told you about the 2022 iPhone SE too.
Awesome video. But as a heads up, at 13:36, the iPhone 5S didn’t introduce raise to wake. IIRC, it was introduced with iOS 10 for devices using the M9 coprocessor (eg iPhone 6S) and above.
Being an audio enthusiast I'm surprised you didn't mention DACs. I still listen to my 3GS for headphone listening sessions. Best DAC that I've heard in an iPhone, IMO, and it still had a true line out, which was unfortunately lost with lightning.
I would swap the 4s with the 5s, swap the 6 and 6s, swap the XS and XR, and now considering the 13 Pro as A tier which I agree with, the 15 Pro should be S tier as it is an evolution of the 13 Pro in every way (and the "controversies" of overheating and bending have been proven to be moot points, reviewers received sub-par review units and not launch units). Also 14 D tier and 14 Pro/Pro Max B tier.
Quinn, you just took me on a very nostalgic journey starting in middle school, and reminded me that some features have been around longer than I thought! Excellent video as always!
I would put at least the XR on A, because of the battery life, and the performance from years (3). I still use an XR as daily drive because I didn't feel the need to upgrade (because it has not failed me yet). But now with the 13 Pro, is time to make the move!
The 13 pro is def the way to go. And the XR probably deserves c tier, I’m saying that because how…. Not competitive for 749$ launch price. Now if you look at it you can get a iPhone 13 for less than that.
I had both an X and XS, and the XS fixed all the major flaws of X: much improved battery life, much improved FaceID, much improved performance, much improved camera. I was still happy with the XS when the 12 mini came out, but I just had to buy the 12 mini to improve the statistics of people buying the smaller form factor. The MagSafe connector was also a huge upgrade for automotive usage.
I’ll hold onto my XS until it’s completely useless purely because it’s the last and best phone with 3D Touch and I just cannot get behind Haptic Touch.
Absolutely love my 12 mini. Even as a UPS driver without access to a charger to charge it, I still only use a half battery after a whole day on the road listening to Spotify. It's wonderful! I hope they make a 14 mini :)
Have to agree with you about the iPhone X. It’s the first time I wasn’t on a regular update schedule. In fact I’ve kept it until I updated to the 14pro. Excellent phone and a good enough camera
My iPhone list has been 3G > 4 > 5S > 6S > 12 Pro. The 5S is probably my favorite of all time. I love the design even better than the current 12 Pro, but I vastly prefer the square edges to the rounded design. I still miss the headphone jack today. On some of the rankings, I do think the 5S should have been higher for sure. I know in general the smaller update years were rated lower, but I've kind of always preferred them as they iron out some of the bugs from the previous generation. So to me the 6S rates higher than the 6 because they made the chassis stronger, the A9 is a huge upgrade, and it just had more longevity to it as a result. But from a year over year view I guess I can see how it would rate as you put it. I also miss Force Touch. Man that was a great feature..
There’s been an extreme over correction with the original iPhone in recent years. Yes it had issues, but Safari was such a game changer that people overlooked them - mostly. Honorary S, probably more A/B.
My old i devices still work fine for basic tasks if I really try; the battery is still good and Safari still functions perfectly, albeit slowly. It's insane
I've owned just about every iPhone from the 4 up except for the X, XS and 11, and my favorites are the 4 (for the great screen and design), 5S (for Touch ID), 6S (for fixing all of the stupid problems the 6 had), 8 (for being an upgrade in a time when I did not want a notch) and 13 Pro (for that sweet 120Hz, baby).
I still love the form factor Apple introduced with the 6. So cool, especially with a thin case. I remember coming from the 5S and being blown away by the 6S. And, fun fact: That thing still runs great today. My dad uses it as his “puzzle game” phone. Great retrospective!
I gotta say, when I got my first iphone, the 6s felt like it was head over shoulders above the android competition. I still feel like the 6s was the first in the sort of 'second generation' of iphones that had worked out all of the kinks of a smart phone and was a full, polished package.
I think it would have been worth mentioning that the 6S has had such immense stying power, still supporting the latest iOS version to date. It has been supported even longer than the iPhone 5S by now lol
you know the video is cringe when the 5s and 6s are placed in a category with the og iphone. Like, the 5s changed the whole game and the 6s is the modern proof of apple's magic with just 2GB of ram.
@@nima9037 Spot on. I completely disagree on ranking the 5S and 6S lower compared to the 5 and 6. For me, touch ID and more powerful internals of the 5S push it above the 5, and similar a stronger chassis and internals push the 6s well in front of the 6. The 6 has aged as gracefully as milk, whereas the 6S is still supported and is still a usable phone today (notwithstanding the relatively low capacity battery). Also disagree on the XR ranking: granted an OLED screen (for me) is preferential compared to an LCD, with the difference between LCD and OLED most prominent in side by side comparisons; IMHO in real world use (ie most people just use 1 phone at time, or if you own 2 phone you use 1 phone at a time, and generally not side by side completing the same tasks) you quickly forget you're viewing an LCD screen as opposed to an OLED screen. It seems Quinn has a strong bias towards shiny new products and "tech specs" as opposed to real world usage...
I think you don’t realize just the hold the 5c had on the childrens phone market. Growing up. Literally EVERYONE had a 5c it was perfect for children in every way.
I totally agree. 4S was amazing. As was the 11 Pro, but I only realized that after I sold it for the 12 Pro :D Love the 13 Pro tho. Now even more that I got a case on it that let’s me hold it better. Never was a case guy but for some reason got one last week lol. (Caudabe Sheath) Funny video. Loved it!
The 4S was such a ridiculous upgrade from any iPhone before and it ended up lasting me for so long that I ended up giving it to my brother who's iPhone 6 had broken and he used it for another year or so.
I agree, iPhone 11 Pro was the best iphone i have ever had, and only realised this when i traded it in for an iPhone 12 Pro Max, now i have an 13 pro max but it still doesn’t beat the feel of the 11 pro
Originally sent a comment about being confused with some of these placements, but that was just my inner Apple sheep. This is very "definitive". I still think the 11 should be in C tier with the XR just because it was released cheaper than the XR, but that's about it. Great video.
@@snazzy the 11 also had the 11 pro camera quality cameras, so they were significantly better than the xr. you're right that it was a lazy release but it was a really good lazy release so I think you ranked it a little too low
The battery in the 6s series didn't increase it was actually cut down a bit to accommodate the new 3d touch layer also the 6s is in fact the longest supported iPhone in terms of major ios releases(ios 9 through 15, so seven years of major updates). Edit : -touch-id 2.0 was a major upgrade in terms of speed, it wasn't a slight upgrade. -It was also significantly faster than the 6. Definitely deserved to rank higher than the 6 imo
Where would you place the iPhone SE (2020) with its iPhone 8 internals but A13 chip? Personally I'm quite happy with it as I usually go for the low/mid tier with mid storage. I went from iPhone 3G to 4, 4S (had it for 4 years and then both screens broke after a drop), 6 (I loved my 4S' smaller screen, but missed the first SE by 2 months), 6s, 7, 7 (after 12MP OIS I didn't see a need to upgrade so grabbled it again), SE 2020 (wanted a phone that would have software support and it had a good price and nice speed). I'm probably going to get the 2022/2023 SE and hopefully will get magsafe (LIDAR would be neat for me, but probably won't come to SE). I don't really see any newer phones having any really big features that'll lure me to them anytime soon.
True, but if you waited one more year for the 12 you would have the refreshed design and oled panel- it’s one of those differences that you need to feel to see the difference.
@@theneighborlynumismatist8201 You have a point! That being said I came from S9+ to Iphone 11 and while yes the difference is noticable I feel like it's nowhere near as bad as it might seem (a 720p LCD display does sound bad)
The rankings that offended/triggered me the most were where you put the iPhone 6s, iPhone Xs, and iPhone 11. Linus's review of the iPhone 6s says "The 6s brings so many improvements that Apple didn't even bother talking about the fact that they secretly put waterproofing material into the phone" and I agree. iPhone Xs might not be the most exciting iPhone launch ever but the improvements to the Neural Engine in the A12 chip (it was literally 8x faster than the A11's in the iPhone X, to the point where Apple didn't even bother exposing the NE of the A11 to developers via APIs and it only powered the iPhone X's Face ID) allowed the iPhone Xs to lster gain several NE-accelerated software features in iOS that the iPhone X or iPhone 8 was never able to have, like the variable weather animations in the Weather app like rain droplets that bounce off of the information tiles, etc.). iPhone 11's starting price got $50 cheaper than that of the Xr, it brought Apple's excellent Night Mode, and the best camera lens to ever be put on an iPhone, the ultrawide lens. The A13's GPU was like 50% faster than the A12's, to the point where one game that Apple demoed during the introduction of the iPhone 11 to showcase the phone's GPU performance has a graphics setting that is named 'iPhone 11' to this day, which is its highest graphics setting (after 'Ultra High'). Also, you knowingly tried to trigger everyone throughout the video to get people to comment so your video gets boosted by the algorithm, but it's gross. Making money off of haters and fanboys isn't any better than trying to make money off of normal, civilized people. Their wrongdoing doesn't justify your wrongdoing, even if it's a different kind of wrongdoing, and it's immoral behavior (unless your morals are in a wrong place). So please don't try to pull a Linus on this one, he does the same "trying to trigger X company's fanboys and haters with the thumbnail and video title" thing and I hate him for that too. Yes this is completely unrelated from the iPhone ranking stuff, but I needed to get it off my chest.
nah man the 6s is S teir, or at least A, the batt was the only downside i mean its still getting updates today man its a great phone if you did end up buying one and was the last iphone with the headphone jack, i mean even the 6s+ had a bigger batt also
Yeah. The battery in the 6s had a crappy battery I had to replace mine 2 times. Otherwise it fixed all issues over the 6 and takes the crown as the longest lasting phone to date
I'm glad someone else really sees how substantial the iPhone 4S actually was. I absolutely hated my iPhone 4, but loved my 4S and still do. It's actually sitting next to me right now. I just loaded it up with a bunch of music as an off the grid music player. It's running iOS 6, so it just sips on it's still in really good shape battery from 2012.
My iPhone 4 is still active. It’s original battery was finally replaced 2 years ago. It has original glass, with minor scratches. And the only thing that has been frequently replaced is the 30 pin usb cable.
The iPhone 8 was probably one of my favorite phones! I got it the year after it came out with a bit of a price drop to replace my OLD iPhone SE, I wasn’t ready to give up my home button and didn’t want a “huge” iPhone X. I now have a 12pro and this is my favorite phone I’ve ever had. EDIT: also it was my first phone with wireless charging which I loved and it still had force touch. In my opinion the best phone in the iPhone 6 body style
I have always thought of the 's' versions of iPhones as the two year cycles definitive version. It's like the refinement of the idea the non 's' versions introduced. Even now with Apple seemingly done with the 's' monokrom you still see this with the iPhone 7 to 8 and 12 to 13. Despite being smaller upgrades they are nearly always better phones than their non 's' counterpart.
I had an iPhone 4s, 6s and now a 12. The design and feel of the 4s was nice but since it was an older hand me down I didn't get to experience it in the same way because it was already dated. My 6s was pretty good, I liked the design and features it had, and boy was it performant even near the end but unfortunately, the battery life was poor especially near the end of using it for 5 or 6 years, and that was with multiple battery replacements, I couldn't go anywhere without a power bank. My iPhone 12 is really good, I'm mainly happy to get through the entire day without needing to charge it 2 times. And the camera and features I missed from being on my 6s for so long made the wait really worth it. I hope it lasts a long time like my 6s did.
I have to say that I 100% agree with your take on the iPhone 4S. It’s probably the best iPhone design to date - if the 4S had more power and could run an up to date OS, I’d probably still be using it today. I have never understood the great love for the 5 and 5S, they were a step backward in design and always felt cheaper than the 4 and 4S.
How exactly does the 6s and SE have bad battery? I got a used SE a couple years after it came out and the battery was fine for my use. I don't remember too many specifics, but the only times the battery was an issue was long periods of constant use and when the battery degraded and had to be replaced.
My first phone was the iPhone 5c, so I have a soft spot for it. Even though my model was a weird 5gb model I find that it was still a good useable phone, especially for younger people who liked bright colors and don’t have a phone yet
The XS was much better than where you put it. The previous generation was the X and 8 and 8 Plus. The XS was a big improvement because it was the first time we saw the newer design with a large form factor.
@@snazzy Yeah, that’s fair. I guess I just really liked it because I was waiting for a larger phone. I looked at getting the X, but it just felt like a downgrade in size from my 7 Plus at the time.
iPhone 13 Pro should be in the S tier. A 120 Hz OLED is probably the biggest upgrade to the iPhone in YEARS. Well, aside from the normal increases in CPU, GPU, and RAM.
@@snazzy That’s a valid point. I’m a huge display and latency enthusiast. OLED’s pixel response times combined with the improved refresh rate does make it a big upgrade. It’s much better than the iPad Pro’s mini-LED 120 Hz display. I have one, and that display has bad ghosting due to the awful pixel response times of the LCD panel Apple is using. I’m kind of shocked seeing that from an Apple product, and I’m surprised it got past their review process and was considered a release-worthy display. Well, I guess it’s not that surprising, considering the new 120 Hz MacBook LCDs also have awful response time and input lag. The iPhone OLED screen is much nicer than those 120 Hz Apple LCDs.
@@KFZRusinov iPad Pro 2021 12.9” is the one I have. I mean yeah, it works fine. The thing is that I just am used to much better displays and can easily notice the insane amount of blur.
I have now graced the internet with my iPod Tier List! th-cam.com/video/sI44Emzey8w/w-d-xo.html
Yep watched that just before this. As Steve Jobs I agree
@@kashmirhafr
right away you are wrong. I phone wasnt first with grid list apps either
That said you are right Og iphone in 2007.. other than having fancy ui it was terrible. Had no appstore, no ability to record video.. it was a very limited feature phone at insane price of 500 and fully subsidized, and it was underclocked to save battery so sluggish performance too.. no way S tier.. apple didn't really figure it out until 4s.
Great video 👍 would like to see an iPad tier list
I feel like the 5S in C is a bit harsh considering what it brought to the table. 64-bit, touch ID, 6 years iOS support, iOS 7. Entertaining video though!
agree!
that's why I disliked the video - first time this channel :D
Yup, 5s was soooooooo poorly placed in this tier list, it brought so many innovations to the lineup, and the immense support from Apple should put it at A at the very least, S tier in my book. My favorite iPhone of all time :)
Well said.
I liked both your list and his list even if I disagreed with some choices here and there. You both make great videos about the history of technology (and iPhones in particular)
I still have and use my 5S.
But you have to admit that the design was already dated when it came out
It can't be understated how massive of a disadvantage it had due to the screen size. I remember it being a deal breaker for many.
What do you mean by ‘still supported today’?
@@art_sarkisian It still gets updates, although only on iOS12 (And other devices that didnt get iOS13). iOS12 still has occasional security updates.
@@elijahnaumov8379 i would’ve put the 5s at B or maybe A tbh
I loved the 5s and the only reason I got an iPhone again was because the 12 mini made me nostalgic

5S absolutely deserved a better tier than C. Despite the flawed release of iOS 7, it's a foundation of today's iOS, and it brought features we take for granted like biometrics.
He has random absolutely delusional takes sprinkled in.
6 higher than 6s? Must disagree. Even way back, it was a great change when started using the 6s. New touch ID generation, 3D touch and the speed was just on different level. Actually, still use it for some lighter stuff till today 📱
3D Touch was the best iPhone feature
For me, 6s was my favorite phone ever. Extremely fast, amazing camera, super sleek and very elegant, 3D Touch is the feature I miss the most, my dad uses my 6s now. The biggest criticism I make about Apple is that base storage is a crime just to lower the sticker price. 16gigs when 6s was around was a serious joke. But I loved very much this phone. Special place in my heart.
Not to mention the normal 6, bend in your pocket
6S Much better than original 6, and how can he mark the iPhone 12 Pro that low and then the relatively similar iPhone 13 pro so high?
And how is iphone 13 mini higher then iphone 12 mini?? For the same price It has wayyyy better battery can last u can extra year or 2, better cameras and twice the storage at starting price. Some people wouldn't had considered the iphone 12 mini for the battery alone but now that it has it should be higher then it. All that and it just released 1 year after it.
I'm still using an iPhone 11 Pro Max as of March 2024. Battery hasn't been replaced and it still gets me thru a full day. I still enjoy using it.
The iPhone XR had better battery life than the XS and XS Max… it was actually pitched as the best battery life ever in an iPhone at the time. Deserves to be much higher on the list.
I was gonna comment this....
agreed, still have mine and love it
Thats because of the the bad LCD an iphone without a screen has also better battery life🤣
@@demediastudio the screen is fine. Very fine. Not oled, not worth 800€ or whatever they asked, but still. Makes the battery last as much thanks for that.
Yeah, while I wouldn't agree with the "much higher" part, indeed battery life was better than what he said
The 5S is an S tier phone.
He put it in c because of the 5c like is this guy stupid
Agree, the 5S is a total design classic, and such a lovely size and weight.
I still use my iPhone 5s
Well if I was ranking by objective quality, every single year would be better than the prior. Apple has never made a worse phone year-over-year.
@@snazzy I'm on my 6S now😁
The 6s is the Nokia of iPhones
The iPhone 6S’s durability overhaul was a HUGE DEAL when it came out, I remember TH-camrs tried dropping them from drones and the screen would still be working, unheard-of for an iPhone before that point. I think it should be ranked higher because it set the standard for iPhones being durable, something apple likes to advertise about nowadays.
yeah. review felt biased just because he never used the 6s.
honestly! I used the 6s for nearly six years, and it survived _well_ , especially considering how clumsy a person I am. in fact, the only reason I had to upgrade was because I needed more than 16 GB of space, and the battery health was suffering.
Yeah i think iphone 6s is still the most durable iphone ever made
i’m using a 6s rn and it has fell down MANY times and rn it only has cracks but other than that it works perfectly fine😄
@shortcake what doesn’t kill the iPhone 6s makes it stronger hahahaha
SE2016 is S tier. It stopped getting updates last year, but still gets security updates. Bring a battery pack and you are set. Only thing it is missing is water resistance.
The XR was my (Miles) first iOS daily driver and I absolutely loved it for the value. The display left much to be desired, but the speed and battery life was great for me. It's your list, but I would've given it a B at least. Great video, though!
Agreed, It was my first iPhone and its a great buy!!
The display is still better than every phone I had before it... It's solidly a B tier. Which is also where the 4s belongs. I've never seen one of these that wasn't shattered or brand new.
I’m still using the XR. No need to upgrade since it does what the other iPhones do.
My first modern design iPhone till now,
Well have to admit that the bezel is so thick compared with my LG V50,
but i I let it slide for the sake even bezel and chin, and battery life

The iPhone 4 was the first iPhone I bought. I still remember the feeling when I picked it up, haven't got the same feeling like that ever again.
I think it should be at least A
It was also one of the last phones before the mini series phones that you could use with one hand.
@Avrate the iphone 5s is still receiving security updates
I've been tempted to 'downgrade' my 12 Mini to the 11 Pro for the reasons you mentioned - green, battery and better hand feel. I liked those curved glass edges. The screen size is a great blend between the 12 Mini and 12/12Pro sizes. They got too big.
I considered getting an iPhone 11 Pro in 2019 because I’ve heard great things about the size. At $1k though, it was out of my budget for a phone. Using a 13 mini now and very satisfied with it.
@@cringycontent I leave 5G turned off! It's kind of a gimmick at this stage.

Having gone from a 7 to a 13 mini makes the 13 an S-tier phone for me 😅 I guess it's all about perspective.
I went from a 7 plus to an 13 Pro max, but I agree with you
Going from a 6S that worked like a phone from wish to a 13 so I completely get what you mean 🫣😂
True
I don't get how the 6S is placed in C.
I love how passionate Quinn is about this subject. It’s nice just sitting back and watching someone talk about things they care about.
Thank god you didn't put the original iPhone in S-Tier. I was in shock for a second there :D

I loved my iPhone 6s, and replaced it with a similar sized, but vastly faster and more "modern" iPhone SE 2020.
More 6s love here. Easily my favorite, longest lived phone.

Some of these feel like odd choices tbh, but stuff's subjective!
Surprised the 2016 SE made the list, but the 2020 didn't
Some stuff that stood out:
- the 4S was actually the first phone to shoot 1080p
- the 6 was the first to do 1080p in slowmo
- Raise to wake was an iOS 10 feature on A9 and later
- the 5S is the longest supported phone if we include iOS 12 security updates, but the 6S will beat it out in the long run thanks to getting 6 full years of updates
- from what I recall from reviews (and personal use) the 2016 SE actually had better battery life than the 6S thanks to the smaller screen

@@Thelango99 that'd be freaking wild haha. i wouldnt put it past apple but i major doubt it

Keep in mind that rumors also said that the 12 mini would be the last one, so we really have no idea.
Yeah, totally. The 13 mini is the definitive modern iphone for me
@@shelbymurphy3579 what rumors?
Plus it has the same sensors as the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Hardly “the same camera as iPhone 12”. That’s just lies
good news is apple are releasing their new iphone se 3rd.let's hope that could design like iPhone X but way smalier than it.I'm sure it will sell well.
I really like Mr Snazzy Labs, but the 6s was probably one of the best phones Apple has ever made, maybe not revolutionary, just a solid, good phone.
I found it very slippery and as tough as a ripe peach. Got used to it though. Slimness was nice in the pocket. Awful battery life though.
I think that's where a lot of the disagreement will come from. Those of us who don't value innovation as much as reliability are really going to prefer S models.
Considering as u also said the 6s was better than the 6 I don’t understand the positioning
The iPhone XR and iPhone 11 sub-1080p panels were pretty much the best lcd panels on smartphones. They looked better than most, if not all, 1080p android lcd phone screens.
Even in 2018-2019 lcd screen was for low cost phone so ofc iphone 11 screen is better than every low cost phone lol

The fact that I'm still using a 6s as my daily phone and it's still going great shows how good it was. Definitely needs more love imo.
That's why he said ways to rake!

Nope
My XR is about 3 years old, I was considering the S22 Ultra this fall, but I can wait until what apple has to offer hehe.
The 13 pro is def the way to go. And the XR probably deserves c tier, I’m saying that because how…. Not competitive for 749$ launch price. Now if you look at it you can get a iPhone 13 for less than that.
Can you please tell me if the samsung S21 is better then the iphone Xr?
I had both an X and XS, and the XS fixed all the major flaws of X: much improved battery life, much improved FaceID, much improved performance, much improved camera. I was still happy with the XS when the 12 mini came out, but I just had to buy the 12 mini to improve the statistics of people buying the smaller form factor. The MagSafe connector was also a huge upgrade for automotive usage.
Exactly, iPhone XS remains one of the best iPhones to this day imo
Same.
It's insane
I'm going from an iPhone 6 to an iPhone 14 when it comes out. Wow. That is 8 more generations in between. Hope I love it as much as I expect to!
I love the way the iPhone SE 2016 jumped out from behind the iPhone 6s. Sort of cute.
It definitely wasn’t good but I don’t think it should’ve been rated that low
I miss 3D Touch. A lot. Also, I expected not to… but I actually agree with your list. Well done with the overview of each phone and features list.
But shouldn't the iPhone XS be at least A-tier, since it's the last iPhone with 3D Touch!?
I totally agree. 4S was amazing. As was the 11 Pro, but I only realized that after I sold it for the 12 Pro :D Love the 13 Pro tho. Now even more that I got a case on it that let’s me hold it better. Never was a case guy but for some reason got one last week lol. (Caudabe Sheath)
Funny video. Loved it!
In my experience iPhone 4 was amazing, while 4S spent more time in the repair shop than a Ferrari.

That’s a fair point. I did not remember that.
Edit :
-touch-id 2.0 was a major upgrade in terms of speed, it wasn't a slight upgrade.
Been rocking an iPhone 11 since released. I agree that it was very similar to the 10R, but the value imo was really good coming from an iPhone 7.
True, but if you waited one more year for the 12 you would have the refreshed design and oled panel- it’s one of those differences that you need to feel to see the difference.
@@theneighborlynumismatist8201 previous phone took a dunk in a river so couldn’t wait another year for the 12 🤣 but yes you have a point
Yes this is completely unrelated from the iPhone ranking stuff, but I needed to get it off my chest.
nah man the 6s is S teir, or at least A, the batt was the only downside
i mean its still getting updates today man its a great phone if you did end up buying one and was the last iphone with the headphone jack, i mean even the 6s+ had a bigger batt also
"Waise to rake" 13:37 had me confused for like 10 mins 😂
Omg, I am not alone on this!? When I heard him say that I was like “?????? Wut did blud say” 💀😭
The reason people love those phones but you don't is because design is personal preference. The iPhone 5s is my favorite looking iPhone ever
1000% agreed on Midnight Green being Apple's best iPhone color ever. Would love a return on the 14.
I’d instantly buy it if it would have that colour.
The iPhone 7 is definitely underrated
The XS was much better than where you put it. The previous generation was the X and 8 and 8 Plus. The XS was a big improvement because it was the first time we saw the newer design with a large form factor.
As stated, the Max was an obvious choice if that's what you were looking for; however, the base Xs was pretty meh.
It's very good. But I want it round.
