Great review, thank you! I've tested the Strong overdrive + 20 MBR @ 165 hz and fps in a strategy game. The text labels and objects look perfectly crisp in motion at the top portion of the screen, but the lower on the screen the more ghosting there is, and at the bottom there's a strong "doubling" effect. Especially noticeable when panning the map horizontally. Is this a limitation of the technology and to be expeted, or do you think this could be an issue with my unit?
It is, that is 'strobe crosstalk' which is more intense at the bottom of the screen due to the timing of the strobe. The screen is optimised to deliver good clarity further up the screen and towards the centre. This is covered in the written review - pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-q24g2a-bk/#Responsiveness.
@@Name-bb8wo Hard to say, I haven't tested it in FPS long enough to come to a definite conclusion. Great review! I’m considering this monitor because I’m soon ordering a PC with an RTX4070. The thing is, 1440P isn’t always a 160+fps experience with this card, so I was thinking about running some games on 1080P. This will blur the image compared to running a native 1080P monitor? I’m somewhat confused. I thought this was the perfect option since its 24 inch size would allow easily switching to 1080P when I can’t hit enough fps on 1440P with no downsides and still a somewhat crisp image (compared to running 1080P on 27 inch). But I understand there are some downsides to that plan?
I share some thoughts on the monitor scaling in the written review, yes you'd have quality degradation compared to a native 1080p monitor - pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-q24g2a-bk/#Interpolation_and_upscaling. If you use GPU scaling it's not as bad as using the monitor's scaling - still softer than native 1080p but passable. The relatively small screen size works in its favour, the softness with GPU scaling isn't as obvious as it would be on a 27" model. In general you'd be better off using DLSS where possible and adjusting other settings rather than dropping resolution, but if you have to drop resolution use GPU scaling.
@@PCMonitors Thanks for the comprehensive reply! And would there be any input downsides aswel? I like to play fast fps games like csgo. Or is this just not the monitor for those types of games?
@@juliusjacob1416 You will run csgo at 300fps no problem with a RTX4070 even on QHD anyway... Even Apex Legends youll run 200+ fps on 1440p at high settings.

No, the size of everything (excluding UI elements) in a game is determined by the size of the screen rather than the resolution. The resolution affects the detail but not the size of things in the game.
This is a great monitor but aoc's bfi technology called Motion Blur Reduction (mbr) is a mediocre implementation of bfi, as we saw from the ufo tests higher levels of mbr increase motion clarity but result in image duplication like that duplicate transparent copy of the ufo on the left side. Comparing it to asus' elmb, their bfi implementation is much better and most of their monitors don't have such a bad image duplication when bfi is turned on. There is however another such monitor, 24 inch 1440p ips, made by titan army and it's 240hz and it ships to both US and EU, which i think is better. Also this monitor doesn't seem to have 10 bit colors (no rfc) so there might be some banding, as is common with 8 bit displays. The main reason to get a 24 inch 1440p monitor is to get 123 ppi without the performance impact of 4k resolution. Even the 4090 cant keep up with games like black myth wukong at 4k if u crank up everything to the max, getting 123 ppi while still getting lots of fps due to how much easier 1440p to run is, is a huge deal, it's basically pseudo 4k without the drawbacks, if u compare it to 32 inch 4k which has 137 ppi. And 24 inch makes it better for multiplayer games as 27 inch is just a bit too big to be able to see the whole screen at once. And not only that but this monitor is also quite cheap. If it had 10 bit colors and a better bfi implementation it would be perfect, for the price anyway.
Have you heard of 24” 2k koorui gp01 I read uses same boe panel and has a better faster driver just no speakers or mbr what your thoughts it’s the only USA release of this kind
I have no feedback to share on it. Not sure what you mean by "faster driver". It will be based on the same panel (although the manufacturer misleadingly states "Nano IPS"), so it's probably a good monitor for the price.
Hello. When I use the SRGB mode on this monitor, the screen turns extremely washed out, blacks look gray and even colors look washed out. Is this normal?
What's the perceived IPS glow compared to higher priced IPS monitors like an M27Q or a VG27AQL1A? I have an M27Q right now and I honestly notice no IPS glow at all, even when watching movies at night in the dark. The IPS glow is very noticeable in the video but cameras are cameras and it's hard to tell how it actually looks like. I've been interested in getting this monitor for a while now for a different use but I haven't seen any proper reviews until now. Which is a great video by the way!
As noted in the review, it's at a typical level for an IPS-type panel of the size. From a given viewing distance it will be a bit lower than your average ~27" IPS screen and should be slightly reduced compared to those models you listed. But as also pointed out it depends on viewing distance, screen brightness and importantly if your unit has significant issues with backlight bleed or clouding. The glow isn't very bright and colourful - yes it's exaggerated somewhat in the video, though the room is also pitch black which means it very much 'worst case' as well. You can see it looks quite different in a well-lit room.
The ~1000:1 vs ~1200:1 makes a slight difference, but it's negligible in most lighting conditions. Contrast isn't really a strength of either model and the AOC is still better than the 'weakest IPS performers' (some Nano IPS models for example).

Hi, i have ordered this beautifull Piece; but in another Video someone said that you need at least 2.1 HDMI to display 1440p at 165hz? Is the 2.0 from this monitor enough to diplay 165hz at 1440p? Thanks in advance ☺
Hello, I have this monitor, and I have noticed an excess of blacks and contrast, which makes dark areas too dark and appear only black. How can I solve this while keeping the brightness high?
That could be a gamma issue, so try a different gamma mode or change the setting in Nvidia Control Panel. Or the gamma is correct and you're used to or expecting inaccurate gamma tracking.

I was wondering because no matter how i set up the colors on this AOC i cant get that purpleish color. For example in Space Marine 2, ultramarines on the LG are a bit more violet, while on this AOC they are strong blue@@PCMonitors
From the written review (pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-q24g2a-bk/#Features_and_aesthetics) : "2 x 2W speakers are also included, offering basic and not particularly rich or high-quality sound output. The maximum volume is reasonable and the minimum reasonably (though not very) quiet. Regardless of volume some content sounds a bit distorted and not as clear as it should. These speakers are there if you need them and can be useful, but don’t expect beautiful audio."
Is this monitor still recommended if I expect to stay around 60 fps for modern games? My pc is probably capable of running competitive games with high frame rates, games like valorant, cs2 and so on, but when it comes to story games mainly recent games I probably won't get a lot higher than 60 frames.. My current monitor is a 60hz 1080p AOC monitor, it has A LOT of ghosting, so when a game is really dark it looks terrible, so my main concern is that this monitor might have a lot of ghosting on 60hz (I checked the video multiple times and have checked the images from the written review but still not sure if I should get this monitor). My graphics card is an rx 6700, my cpu is an i3 12100F, not the greatest pairing when it comes to squeezing high frame rates from games but it hasn't failed me yet... I personally find the idea of a 24inch 1440p really interesting and I would like to get it but I have doubts so I hope you can help.
The pursuit photographs demonstrate this well with further subjective input in the video. At 60Hz you either need to switch overdrive to 'Off' (will give a bit of 'ghosting' due to slower than optimal pixel responses - not a lot) or 'Weak' which gives a bit of overshoot. Depends on your sensitivity to both, but by no means does this model offer weak 60Hz performance. The beauty of pursuit photos is you can observe the test on your own monitor to compare with how your current one does - testufo.com/ghosting.
@@PCMonitors bought the monitor around a month ago and have been using it pretty much everyday, no complaints so far. the 60hz performance seems pretty good. After I got the monitor I tried the ufo test and the results are as expected pretty great compared to my previous monitor. No regrets so far. I'd like to thank you for the help your video was to me, keep up the good work 👌👌
I need help please!! I have that monitor and games look very very blurry while i move in games. when i stand on one place everything is good but when i move its horribly blurry. please help me. overdrive doesn't change anything. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!
The monitor has good pixel responses as covered in the review. But there is still perceived blur due to eye movement, which is also explained there. To minimise this you need to have your frame rate as high as possible (up to 165fps) and also make sure any motion blur effects and similar are disabled in games, if that's an option.
Depends on the level you play at, games you play and expected frame rate. 240Hz is nice, competitively. And the ViewSonic's strobe backlight setting is good. But some will happily game competitively on this model and the superior pixel density can be considered an advantage for them as enemies are more distinct from the background in the distance (again, depends on play style and game).
@@PCMonitors Thanks. I have ryzen 5 7600 ABd Amd rx6800 graphic Card. I think the response time is Like great thing for me. For the Fps, i can live with 150 if i can get them with my system at 1440p. Erm. It's worth buying for £220 which is its usual street price. It's very new and rarely in stock due to demand, if you saw it listed new this early on for £149 you should be VERY suspicious of the listing. If you're looking at a used or refurbished unit it's entirely up to you whether you're happy with that "condition".
@PCMonitors did you change windows scaling for this monitor? i've got an eye on it but a lot of people say that windows (taskbar, icons, text etc.) looks tiny compared to 24" 1080p. also i've heard 125% scaling does look blurry. and most importantly: does this affect games too? is HUD in games also tiny when comparing to 24" 1080p?
Nope, no scaling was used - this is covered in the review (1:50). You just have to try to get used to it, like people can get used to 27 - 32" UHD models without scaling and they have even tighter pixel densities. Depends on eyesight, viewing distance and personal preferences. Some people just get so used to one monitor they freak out when things like that change. Instead of being patient and trying to adjust to it. I do find the scaling a bit soft at 125% for the QHD resolution for some things, but not for elements that scale 'cleanly' like most text on web browsers for example. I'd still say it works better for UHD than QHD in general as some elements have a slight fringe of 'soft border' that's more difficult to notice (thinner) with a super high pixel density. Scaling in games is separate, you need to use their own scaling settings if they have them.
You might need to reduce the red colour channel and green channel a bit to counteract that. You might also be used to a screen with a very different backlight or that was calibrated to a rather cool tint, so the AOC could look 'yellow' in comparison.
@@PCMonitorsbecause it has HDMI 2.0 with VRR support, it will run 1440p with 120 hz on the ps5 - correct? Should I change settings manually or will it change automatically?

@@PCMonitors So the IPS glow is slightly less severe, but is the lower contrast ratio noticeable? I'm also thinking of replacing an M27Q with this.
The ~1000:1 vs ~1200:1 makes a slight difference, but it's negligible in most lighting conditions. Contrast isn't really a strength of either model and the AOC is still better than the 'weakest IPS performers' (some Nano IPS models for example).
tho i do own Alienware Aw2723df 27'' 280hz Ips with REALLY low input lag and good responce times i was qurious about this lil monitor and purchased it, in 4 days its gonna be here
How is the monitor?
@@jaydakzy the presentation was super accurate, medium overdrive seems to be the best, 165hz natively no need for overclock, the fastest input latency ive ever experienced on par with my old BenQ Zowie xl2540 which was TN 240hz and colors overall pretty decent. My only minor complain and this aint the monitors fault - is that the screen coatin is medium matt and Im spoiled from my glossy alienware. Besides that easily most VFM monitor out there, i got it for 187 euros.
@@kostistsiutras4373 cheers for taking the time to write back, Dude!
I have the dell 24inch 1440p model from a few years back and it has terrible colour banding so I will more than likely get this AOC one. It’s pretty cheap as well considering what you get.
🫶
23.8 vs 27, does it worth the ppi really?
Personal preferences, it is a bit tighter and some will like that. Others prefer the larger screen of a 27" model (where the pixel density is still good - just not AS good).
You think a ryzen 7 7700x red devil 6750xt combo is capable to run 1440p?
More than capable.
Hi, could you tell me how deep the pedestal is from the red circle in the middle of the pedestal towards the smaller tips behind the monitor? I hope I have explained myself! Thank you
The written review ( pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-q24g2a-bk/#Features_and_aesthetics ) includes some useful measurements such as the total depth of the monitor and how far back the screen sits from the front of the stand: "The total depth of the monitor including stand is ~227mm (8.94 inches), with the screen sitting ~50mm (1.97 inches) back from the front edge of the stand. Hi, i have ordered this beautifull Piece; but in another Video someone said that you need at least 2.1 HDMI to display 1440p at 165hz?
Is the 2.0 from this monitor enough to diplay 165hz at 1440p?
Thanks in advance ☺
As covered in the review, 165Hz requires the use of DP. HDMI is limited to 144Hz on this model.
@@PCMonitorsused on a ps5 with hdmi 2.0 can u play at 1440 p 120 hz?
@@neosaber4 yes.
Hi do you have a recommendation for settings ? The default settings are really bad..
Yes, there's a video covering that - th-cam.com/video/tLQIY7vbEvU/w-d-xo.html.
How is the lowest brightness on this monitor as some recent AOC monitors have high minimum brightness. It’s a 1-2 month wait time in the UK
This is covered in the written review. It's reasonable - pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-q24g2a-bk/#Contrast_and_brightness.
Would you suggest this or a tn monitor for fps with 1440 p freesync premium in 2024? And whitch tn if you choose that? Because i want fastest respons at 1440 p locked at 120 fps on xbox series x
I'd recommend the AOC, it's very capable.
I am currently choosing between this and the Lg 27gr75q-b. The LG is true 8bit and this is 6+FRC. So some shades of blue look purpleish on the LG, is this because of it being 8bit?
@@SunbroPulover No, it's probably because of its colour gamut or colour setup.
I was wondering because no matter how i set up the colors on this AOC i cant get that purpleish color. For example in Space Marine 2, ultramarines on the LG are a bit more violet, while on this AOC they are strong blue@@PCMonitors
Are the built in speakers passable for when I don’t want to use a headset
For comeptttive FPS Shooters, do you recommend this one or viewsonic xg4231, 1080p 240 Hz Monitor? Thanks in advance
Is the response time on this Ips panel BAD when we compare it to Viewsonic xg4231 Model?
Thanks in advance.
The response performance is explored in detail in the review! Clearly the response times are not "bad" based on this.
1920x1080 resolution can be used without any kind of image quality reduction, specially sharpness or blurred text? I won't be able to run 1440 until PC upgrade.

there is a DisplayPort 1.2 connection, can it show 165-244 hertz? I thought it was an old port and it doesn't pull more than 60
This isn't a 240Hz+ monitor so that bit's irrelevent. DP 1.2 is perfectly fine for 2560 x 1440 @165Hz 8-bit, as this monitor supports.
@@PCMonitors Sorry, I mixed it up, I saw the monitor exactly the same but with 240 hertz, I thought it was that model, but what do you think about 240 hertz? on dp 1.2 it will work 1920x1080 240hz

Erm. It's worth buying for £220 which is its usual street price. It's very new and rarely in stock due to demand, if you saw it listed new this early on for £149 you should be VERY suspicious of the listing. If you're looking at a used or refurbished unit it's entirely up to you whether you're happy with that "condition".
@@PCMonitors yes it is refurbished unit.
Just spent $430 USD to ship it from FRANCE to my house in Virginia.
@@NZIGNANTI Wow. Well I hope you like it!
For the love of Gabe release this thing in USA
Screw it. I ordered from Amazon France. $430. Better than any BenQ at that price anyway
koorui 24 2k in usa
I own the same monitor.
Mine has a yellow tint (very present on white).
Is that normal?
You might need to reduce the red colour channel and green channel a bit to counteract that. You might also be used to a screen with a very different backlight or that was calibrated to a rather cool tint, so the AOC could look 'yellow' in comparison.
@@PCMonitorsThank you for the reply! Where can I set the channels?
Set 'Color Temp.' in 'Color Setup' to 'User'.
Good for ps5?
Should work well, yes.
@@PCMonitorsbecause it has HDMI 2.0 with VRR support, it will run 1440p with 120 hz on the ps5 - correct? Should I change settings manually or will it change automatically?
@@MrShkelo 120Hz 1440p should work if that's what the PS5 is set to, but the VRR is only supported via Adaptive-Sync (specifically FreeSync). You need HDMI 2.1 VRR (as a feature) for VRR on devices like the PS5 which lack Adaptive-Sync support.
