- There are many vintage G1 Transformers that have really common areas that break and I am trying to work my way through some of those. Today we are dealing with Blaster who you will often see with the the cassette tape door jammed shut. Let's see if we can fix that, and while we are at it, can we fix his really lose head.
If you know of any other common breaks on TF's that I should cover, leave a comment below.

They definitely did make that more complicated than it needed to be. Great Job, Dave!
My door never opened, pretty awesome to find out i can fix it, thank you very much, im a big fan, i fixed numerous figures because of your channel, especially Soundwave.
Great to hear!
You should get one of those Stretch Armstrong Krusher that doesn't hold air anymore and do a repair on it. I'm sure I'm not the only one out here that would love to see that.
Love seeing some old toys get some love ❤
Excellent 👍
There's a good reason why transformers are still so popular
Yes because of the movies
But also because the toys are just such an Awesome idea ...
I always wanted a Blaster, but then a friend of mine got him and as we played together, I realized what a hassle he could be sometimes. (As a child, I was also disappointed he didn't actually play music. I had sky-high expectations back then!) Still would love to own one, though.
You would be surprised to learn that the pre transformers figure of blaster from the microchange series had a working FM radio built in that played music!
Great!! I love TF! 1 advice. You should place something (soft cloth or a towel or something) on your working plate. It can catch your parts ..
Great Video Dave, always very interesting. I guess the concerns with Vaseline is that it is petroleum based and potentially more likely to degrade older plastics more quickly. Silicon grease is less likely to do this. The stiffening of the mechanism may be down to the plastics beginning to degrade already. Great fix again, always look forward to Fridays and your videos.
Oh Good, I have two of these that I havent gotten around to fixing yet. Thanks for doing this one.
Glad to help
I’ve heard that plastic/rubber gaffers tape also makes a good friction medium for hinges too. 😊
Very cool video. Sort of multi issu fix this time. Kinda nice to see the problem solving part. If this doesn't work, maybe it's this, or let's try this and see what happens. Pretty interesting.
G1 Blaster was owned by my younger brother. My brother after playing with Blaster and me in the morning, then my brother rode his bike for the rest of the day. Meanwhile, Blaster and I were still going on covert missions to try to defeat the Decepticons. One thing I always wanted to own was all of his cassettes after watching the movie.
Bravo fix, thank you!!!
You're welcome!
99% of the time all you have to do is rebend that little "E" spring to make the door mechanism work. You probably didn't need to file anything.
Don't forget other Petroleum Jelly Products are also available. LOL
I worry that some products could damage the plastic over time. Does anyone know if thats the case, or no?
The reason you should use a silicone lubricant is because Vaseline and alot of plastic are petroleum based products and can have a bad reaction like melting to plastic
The silicon based lubricant doesn't affect plastic the same way as oil based lubes do. If I remember wright oil based lubes brake down plastics.
Thanks for the info
Vasaline has so many uses
Excellent!😊
TP, I love your restoration videos; how many ‘broken’ toys were thrown away before you came along? (I don’t wanna think about it)
The problem from G1 Transformers that they have a lot of loose joints.
Excellent again with this video I’ll make to watch this one if I ever need to fix up a Blaster Transformer 🦾🦾🦾
Hey Dave
Great fix. Did the toy company ever get together with an electronic one, to make working cassette/radio players?
Happy Weekend and take care 😊
Sounds like a great future challenge for Dave, it's a step up from adding lights but I'd love to see him take it on

Sounds good and doable for Dave, could be a series with 3or4 episodes.🙂
I have a G1 Galvatron, lights work but no sounds 😢
A video abortus overlord. I am fixing one myself. En your tips are a great help
The legs fell off my optimus prime. Is that a common thing?
Depends why they fell off. I have videos covering Optimus prime. Cheers

I attempted this repair today and it worked well for me. Thank you Toy Polloi.
Glad it helped
Cool video! Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
I used to have a knock-off (Edit: it was the Microman version) Blaster where the casette was a tiny radio and it could connect to speakers on his legs. It also had an earplug headphone where the wire was wrapped around his gun. I wonder what kind of modifications you could give to Blaster with today's technology such as MP3 players and bluetooth.
I think the over complication is because of the Micro Change version, since that had a working radio mechanism and all. Makes me wish the radio feature was kept on the Transformers version...
Yeah, Hasbro back in the day dropped the expense of the radio mechanism (which IIRC was contained in a non-transforming faux mini-cassette?) but also cheaped out by not streamlining the button mechanism.
That was also the sign of the times; a flashy, complicated, ‘Rube Goldberg’ mecha was all the rage, as opposed to a quick and dirty operation that a lot of toys have today.
This is great. When I got my Blaster brand new when I was a kid the door and buttons never worked. I thought the toy company took out the ability to open it up. I was disappointed I could never store the tapes in him. Might have to get mine out and see if I can finally fix him.
If only 17 year old me had this video before I *destroyed* my Carboot sale Blaster!
Always so cool watching these Transformers repairs and seeing the engineering that went into the creation of these toys
Thank you so much for this! Mine didn't work straight out of the box and now his deck opens!!
Glad it helped. Cheers
I had the same issue with a Blaster I bought years ago. It’s very cool when you see the same method was used by Toy Polloi! Enjoy him, he’s a great figure! 👍🚀👊
Can you show how to fix a soundwave casset chest that does not close all the way or stay closed
Check out my video on Soundwave to see repairs in the tape door and more. Cheers
Mine when I was a kid came with that problem.
It was always stuck, didn't even know it could open.
Excellent fixes Dave!
Thanks 👍
Just thought I'd share that sometimes I just listen to your videos because of how calming your voice is - especially when combined with the sounds made when you tinker with things.
Nice fix yet again 😊
Thanks 👍
