Like many folks, I had this guy break on me as a child. I've kept him all these years....and I finally now know how to fix him. THANK YOU for all that you do for the community!
I've seen other repairs for Metroplex that just use a bolt and nuts to replace the plastic swivel. This works well, the only thing I would've done differently is use a tiny machine screw with washers to pull the two pieces together and add more strength.
Metroplex original 1986 toy looks great, but the waist is weak. I really like how you add styrene plastic to bond the waist. Some people use a large screw by replacing the broken weak waist part.
I broke my dad's original Metroplex years ago. I've tried to repair it a number of times, but glue never holds. I've also tried plastic weld, but it had no effect on the plastic. I'm hoping this will work. Thanks for sharing man! It's mostly complete, but it's missing the black car, and I think I've lost a broken piece of one of those leg-mounted arches. I had to 3d print a placement peg for one of the black guns.
I bought a G1 Metroplex years ago and slowly got all the bits so he was complete, never had a problem with his waist. Then I picked him up a few weeks ago, and his legs stayed behind, dang thing just *gives up*. I had a junker to replace the part entirely, but I suspect that's only a temporary fix at best!
Thankfully both the rubber, ad plastic wheeled versions I had never broke. This is basically a more complicated version of the G1 Mirage snapped waist fixed. Basically just a nut and bolt super glued in placed.
This is the first time I've gotten upset at a repair. You did not have to drill through the entire knob, and just use a shorter screw. The repair would not have been noticeable. Either way it's a sturdy repair. Good job.
Ouch, just a screw... I see that slowly unscrew itself over the years. 2 washers, a long shank on a bolt with 2 nuts on the end to lock them. Sigh, I wish I could find the top part of my Metroplex.
Please put a plug in your sink when cleaning smaller bits, I was getting nervous for you losing parts down the hole :) It's not an issue, until it is...
Wow great work I saw one at my flea market the guy ask 5$ for it I usually get good deals from him Im considering buying it and restore it so I can have a transformed version since I already have one in robot mode
Speaking of metal parts, what does everyone here think of the latest Soundwave retro figure that Zavvi are currently selling? Was tempted to get it as it was always a figure I wanted but never got in the 80s, but noticed that all the metal parts on the original are now plastic on this newer version. Now I'm in two minds, but it does still look great.
please ... i need a sticker sheet .. i have all the pieces and its whole and un broken.. but for some reason ... its stickerless.. its NAKED !.. help please ?

Nice to see Metroplex back in action, he was one of my favorites Titan in the G1 cartoon.
Man, that brought back memories. I *loved* my Metroplex, and I really wish I still had him.

This is a tricky fix as some much force and weight goes on the joint. So it needs more than glue to hold it firmly. Cheers
Great work. Next time my pops complains about his lower back pain I will recommend plastic weld and styrene sheets. Should do the trick. 😉
🤣 I need the same. Normal Lego fixes everything!
I picked up an incomplete Metroplex, got all the guns and kibble made it complete and then it snapped in half. Now i can fix it👍

Hey Dave. That was quite the spectacular modification. Extremely well done. Thanks.
Many thanks!
Another amazing job Dave, especially ingenious how you've managed to fix him back together at the middle!
Thank you! Cheers!
It's funny because this is the exact way I've been fixing them for years lol.
Using that screw was genius. I feel that it could be applied to other fixes
Simple and effective. Great work!
Thank you! Cheers!
My childhood Metroplex was thrown away for this exact reason. So interesting to see how it can be repaired/fixed.
Thanks for posting 😊
Thanks for watching!
Amazing video. I fixed mine with just plastic weld but as you can imagine I'm a bit nervous when giving him a twist
Awesome job 👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks!

My Metroplex broke the same way. Sadly my fix was to buy a new one, but the new Metroplex had plastic wheels.
I fixed one of them with a nut and bolt when i was about 15.
I've seen one fixed that way as well. Works pretty well.

Hey Dave
Very smart fix, nice job🙂
Take care of Yourself 😊

Super fix Dave! Top notch 👍🏻
Facinating - I still have my original that broke this way - wonder if I could fix it now......
Go for it!
Just awesome mate great channel mate
Thank you kindly
Nice repair. you hate to see these Transformers go to waste
No transformer left behind is what I say.
Looks like an excellent repair to a very common issue. The only question I have is what size drill bit and screw were used?
Use whatever you have that will fit and is a good length. This was just an odd screw I had. The hole was drilled to match that screw.

Will do!
I know right, I totally was about to have a panic attack watching that part lol
Love this video!!!
Glad you liked it!!

That sounds like a bargain.
Indeed I usually get lots of interesting things with that seller
They didn't learn from the Mirage design!
Have you ever opened his head to replace the antenna/ear pieces?
No.

I did take a look at it and it seems ok. I will wait until they appear on discount somewhere before I take the plunge on him.
❤❤❤

Check out ToyHax. They sell them. Cheers
