    dude, you're the fucking GOAT of SC mining. I used to always go to band 5 of the halo since it was the densest and I assumed that changed spawn rate, but actually trying for band 1 (the least concentrated), showed the same amount. that and I always wondered what the point of setting your scan angle so low was for, this is genuinely such a headache saver.

    The video has profoundly changed my life. Yesterday before the video I was in the verse for 3 hours with about 2.75 of that time searching for that 41% q-rock. I watched 2 of the ping/scanning videos and set my joystick up with the ping angle settings and jumped in and dropped into the Halo at about the second ring. I set my ping angle to 90 degrees and immediately had 3 blue squares between 8-10km away. I set the ping angle to 2 degrees, and the first two were type m, but the third one was a type Q. I flew to it and it was 24.55% quantanium. I used to pass those up and only went for 30%, but I'd been in the halo for 2 minutes and have things to do so what the heck, I mined it and went back home and started 22SCU to refining. It is not bad for a grand total of 15 minutes in the PU start/finish log in/log out. But my halo mining will be a lot more fun and productive now. WOOT!

    This is a good tut. If this is what they intended it's a good mechanic after really messing it up in .17.0 but I've got to think they messed up again putting the scanning method in the mining mode. It would make a whole lot more sense to scan in scanning mode and only mine in mining mode. I'm smashing keys needlessly scanning with my miner sticking out blowing in the breeze. Plus 360 and 2 are the only degrees i use now. eff all them silly numbers in the middle.

  • @EamonChaney

    That's great news. I haven't been back to the halo since I learned of the clusters on Lyria, so a couple months now. I wonder if it's at all doable in my MOLE with my alt. How close to 0° dead ahead can any of the turrets get, or would that require a bunch of nodding up and down? If this is how the universe works wouldn't they design the ship sensors and the turrets to converge? Great content again sir! Thank you!!

    • @RedMonsterSC
      @RedMonsterSC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I was testing this with a group, most of the time the turret operators were able to ping towards the turret aim direction, while we would occasionally only get pings based on the direction the ship was pointed. As far as turret firing arc, You'll need to pitch upwards by a minimum of 10 degrees if the turret operators wants a chance at being able to ping directly forward.

    Great video! We use the Mole and my buddy pilots while I am on turret duty.
    My issue is my eyes are not that good and it is hard to read the small scanning telemetry text while in a turret (unlike the Prospector that is nice and up-close )
    Question: is there a way to zoom the turret HUD in so it is fixed so I can read it more clearly without having to go back and forth using F to zoom in read what I need then zoom back out from the MFD?

    • @RedMonsterSC

      For the HUD issue you can use the turret instant zoom feature which is bound to the left shift. I also bound this to my joystick and it acts like a toggle there. This video covers it briefly th-cam.com/video/a4NBlr_Kxt4/w-d-xo.html

    In order to scan "unscanables", you have to leave the ship and get back in.

    • @RedMonsterSC
      @RedMonsterSC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, this method weeds out the unscannables at a distance so I don't usually get up close enough to confirm whether it's Quantainium.
      As noted in previous patches, a cluster of Q-type asteroids will appear a lot closer than other clusters, so I'll keep an eye on it and hopefully confirm one way or another soon.

    As you mentioned in your pinned comment, there is a lot of talk about a bug since 3.17.1 went live and/or during Invictus/free flight where your cargo magically vanishes and you return to the refiniery emlpty handed.
    Have you experienced this significantly during your testing?

    • @RedMonsterSC
      @RedMonsterSC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @RedMonsterSC
      @RedMonsterSC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, server performance does have an impact. I found a lot more unscannable rocks yesterday than normal, but was still able to put away about 1.4m aUEC in a 5-hour mining session.

      @@RedMonsterSC Ah yes indeed you are right, I re-checked the issue council reports and it seem to affect the MOLE only.

  • @amil7554
    @amil7554 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    At first it seemed like this was OP but in my personal testing it feels like it's just two different methods that can yield about the same average results over time, due to the RNG and unscannables you have to deal with in the belt vs spotting clusters and getting close to scan them on planet scanning. At least it's giving the impression that one is not clearly superior over the other, and it's more in line with what your preference is

    • @RedMonsterSC
      @RedMonsterSC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. The unscannables in the belt are an issue that balances this method versus the Lyria Cluster hunting, and I think we had more problems this weekend than usual due to server performance. In any case, if one method gets "fixed" we'll still have a highly successful alternative.

    Awesome - thanks! I'm betting that using mining mode to resolve at distance is going to be labeled an 'exploit' and will be resolved in an upcoming patch. If that happens, everything holds true except for the fact that you need to get within ~500m to resolve asteroid type.

      I'm on the fence about this. It seems reasonable that this could be the intended design, and it just doesn't work YET for surface deposits. On the flip side, methods like the Lyria cluster seem like pretty obvious bugs that would be more likely to get the bugsmashers treatment.

    I seriously doubt that Quantum Jumping is resetting spawn logic. The asteroids are dispersed using probability spheres of about 20K km size. By that reasoning a jump of about 10-20K km will have a good chance of putting you into another probability sphere. The quality and composition of all probability spheres is not the same. The probability sphere's quality and quantity is fixed to the location. When you find an excellent location document that position from multiple relative locations, you will find that the relative locations are not at consistent distances so this is more difficult than you might think. Documenting how to accurately get back will reward you with a constant ability to farm successfully.

    • @RedMonsterSC
      @RedMonsterSC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So, per your argument, a quick jump will still put you in a new probability sphere. I don't know that it actually "resets" anything, as I'm not versed in the controlling logic that generates rock spawns, but it will put you in a new location which triggers a new set of spawn randomizations. Essentially allowing you to "reroll" if you don't like where you're at.
      I like the idea of going back to the same location if you're in a hot spot, but it's pretty difficult to accomplish in the current state of the game. You could do it if there were a party member there, by setting up a personal beacon (which will be available for the rest of the server to see), or leaving a package delivery that shows a marker. Not saying that its impossible, but if you're running solo it might not be worth the added effort.

    • @joeheeney4821
      @joeheeney4821 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RedMonsterSC My understanding is that just moving causes the generation of objects on your boundary dynamically, but those objects are generated within the pre-defined probability of your local probability sphere. By jumping into a new probability sphere you are hoping to jump into one with a higher density and quality value for the minerals which you seek. Once you have located such a sphere, record the coordinates the sphere; probability values are static. So if you find that sphere again it will still be a hotspot but the actual spawns will be dynamically different in each location. The problem is that the planets move so all coordinates are transient. I find my hot spots about half the time. Probability spheres are the method used for generation of NPC interactions. This is fairly well described in theory. It is the method of the universe having dynamic content.
