  • North America in Tekken 8 has not been placing high as of recently in high level fighting game tournaments. Will this change or can we expect more to come? Let's talk.

In my life experience, Tekken has always been more of a "International community" game and not a US game. Usually Tekken is a side piece to either Marvel, Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. Seemed like a certain intervals even Samurai Showdown, Killer Instinct, Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur exceeded Tekken's popularity in the US.
I know there is a dedicated long time Tekken community in the US but I kind of look at them like the US Soccer team. Yes there is talent there but because the US (or NA in general) focuses our attention elsewhere it is a bonus when we exceed in Tekken (or soccer). US / NA best FGC talent is on other games. How many Pakistani Marvel, Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat champs do you see?

I think a lot of top NA players are character loyalists to a fault. Which makes sense given how daunting a game Tekken is you want to use the character you know the most and for a lot of them this was built in older titles. So they have to go through all the nuances in a brand new game and adapt.
If they just picked a top tier when the meta changed they'd probably fair better. This is something other regions have been doing...if they don't already play a top tier that is.
I use to always value a loyalist over the meta because it's just cooler to see someone win with a character they truly know in and out who might also be mid to low tier, but it's definitely defeating when they don't at least make it into top 8.

You do see more character loyalist in Tekken. Playing them no matter what. But that’s the thing. If you doing this to be pro, you have to think business minded of it. Punk is a great example. He’ll play whatever for the moment that gets him to succeed.

@@TVFGCthat's the thing. It's too hard to straight up switch to a character who is top tier, but you play them decently. A new character in this game takes so much work to be consistent with. Even if a player has one in the pocket they'll still be stubborn and go with their main since it's a known factor.
AK played 7 characters at CEO. He took time to develop them, but I think so many options hampered him from taking better than 3rd. Joka been playing Feng since before T7 and Feng is a top tier so that combo will always land him in top 8. If Joey Fury developed a Dragunov in pocket he'd probably benefit.
      Tekkens just hard man lol
