That turned out much harder than we thought...

- The stairs of Midsundtrappene are the craziest stairs I have ever seen. Attempting them on my Mountain Bike was quite insane!

The Midsundtrappene, a popular hiking trail on Otrøya in Midsund, Norway, was built by Sherpas from Nepal. These skilled craftsmen are renowned for their expertise in constructing stone paths and staircases in mountainous regions and have been hired for several similar projects in Norway. Work on the Midsundtrappene began in 2016 and has continued in multiple phases since then, making the trail more accessible and offering spectacular views.
the Sherpas who work on building stairs and trails in Norway, including the Midsund Steps, often earn more than they would by working as guides on Mount Everest. The work in Norway offers more stable and safer working conditions compared to the dangerous and often precarious conditions on Everest. Additionally, the construction projects in Norway provide longer contracts and a more consistent income stream, which is an advantage compared to the seasonal nature of guiding work on Everest.
@MagnusThornberg Thanks for that info about the Sherpas.
I came to the comments to say props to the trail builders. It was amazing to see Remy carrying his bike - they carried boulders!
There's a lot of ancient trails in Nepal made out of stone steps. Ride the Anapurna loop! I think someone has already done it and it's mostly rideable.
They definitely did an amazing job here. Now I wanna hike this place!
It's great that it benefits both the Sherpas, and it helps the surrounding nature because people use the stairs mainly, which helps spare the nature next to the trail from being trampled.
Not to mention that the steps reduce erosion from thousands of hikers. Can't imagine what this ride would do to a normal person.
I rarely comment on youtube videos but this, this is heaven! What a ride!
Thank you!
Terbang gak sihh
Wow Remy! The longer I watch you ride down those stairs, the more I shake my head that you carried your bike all the way up! How you had any strength left to ride down is amazing. Well done.
The ultimate stairset of Doom ... Sam Pilgrim would love it 😮🎉 great job
"Careful master, careful! Very far to fall!"
Even Frodo, Sam and Gollum didn't have to hike up so many stairs.
Insane footage as always, Rémy!
That's freaking sick Bro!!!!! I dont know how the hell both of you held on all the way down without stopping ....... Hats off to both of you..... Just amazing!!!!!! Ride safe Remy!!!!
Thats one hell of a stair set of doom thats gnarly. You are the man!
"I could do it, but I just don't feel like it." :D Loved that
Something for Sam Pilgrim. DOOOOOM!
The doomer to end all doomers
Doooooom it, doom iiiiiit
the ultimate stair set of doom
On a dirt jumper
With only a rear brake.
My nerves are in shreds just watching an unbelievable decent with amazing speed at the end , well worth the watch .😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hope you recovered well from that crash. Took it like a champ!
Not sure what’s more impressive
Hiking up or hiking down 👍 amazing vid as usual
GREAT vid Rémy- Esp. the section at 10.50 onwards- that tech was super gnar. Even allowing for GoPro effect, it's easy to get an idea of how steep and demanding this stair run is. Really like the perspective footage when you walked a section too, and looked back up- Awesome. One of the most gripping videos I have watched from you. (Along w the run down that cliffside w the dude in a sailsuit whipping past your left side!).
Thats complete stair insanity!! The fact you guys walked it definitely means its crazy!!
great riding...great capture...scariest of your videos I've watched so far
Awesome guys!! I too luv to ride challenging stuff like this. I like the fact that you only do calculated risks because of the big consequences involved. You guys are incredible riders. You inspire me to push my nown limits when riding. Keep it roll'n bro!
Insane! I can’t never do those stairs! All the energy going up then going down it would make it very difficult! Kudos 😊
this literally had me watching with my mouth open in bewilderment. awesome view and so steep insane
Unbelievable!!! I wouldn't even dream about taking a bike down that trail.
Wow!! That view. Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks for visiting
Amazing descent. Amazing riding. A few camera glimpses from below some sections shows how insanely steep this is. Just wow.
The most beautiful trail ever! Now I have a new dream - to descend Digergubben by bike. I love Norway! Great job Remy :)
Wow, that was great! Your riding skills are awesome!!!
Perfect timing, got back from work, time to chill with brother Rémy
Merci 👍
Crazy!
Your control is so impressive!
Absolutely amazing video!!!! So beautiful and so terrifying all in one!
Ah yes, my grandparents' old commute to school!
Cool to see you ride alpine trail like this. Definitely an other type of riding than the one you do in Canada, really liked it.
Impressionnant de maîtrise dans le placement du vélo et dans le contrôle du freinage. Epic!
What a place!!! Magic!! Great job guys! 🤘
just imagine how hard it was to build that path
If I had a VR I would be watching your videos all day long
Grew up watching Gully, very cool dude! Looks like an unreal trip haha!
Remy, I'm glad you are not taking unwanted risks now..... Thats what riding is all bout..... if theres risk, always try to avoid and wank you way, because it will save your tomorrow to ride your bike again.
Remy - always punching the fist bump 😂
I'm pretty sure I had heart failure a few times watching that! Epic!!
2200... I thought it was much more.
"The Midsundtrappene hike in Norway consists of approximately 2,200 stone steps. This hike, located on the island of Otrøya in Midsund, is known for its beautiful stone staircase built by Nepalese Sherpas, leading up to the Rørsethornet peak, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape."
No, that's only one part of it. Midsundtrappene consist of appx 10.000 steps from the very bottom to the top.
Edit; it's 3292 steps, and combined with other paths it's appx 10.000 steps all together. It feels like 10.000 when you hike it though 😅 never ending, but the reward is great (until you have to walk back down which is almost worse than going up)
I could never do this because I would never hike my bike up there!!! 🤪 Absolutely insane!
I can feel that arm pump burning as hell😮
Crazy lads. Respect
unreal. Incredible view
That view is stunning😮💨
Insane! That is the only word to describe you and that downhill ride.
That was bananas.
wow!! would be curious to know the temperature of both shocks after the stairs!
I cant believe you hiked a bike all the way up that mountain??:O
Norway Bjorge 😂😂 Awesome footage!
Wow ! Incroyable endroit, merci pour la découverte et bravo pour la descente (mais aussi pour la montée qui n'a pas due être une partie de plaisir)
Unreal footage!! 👀Stunning! 🔥💚🙏🏼
That view is amazing id love to go there
Such a cool ride
I can't watch because it's in fisheye view, but it LOOKS like a gorgeous and dangerous ride. Nice work.
Rémy, tu es complètement fou!!! lolll Non sérieux, c'est énrome cet endroit et de toute beauté....wow!!! Bon test pour les pneux, roues, suspensions, freins, etc... fiouuuuuuu
Wow! That was gnarly af!😮
Over 9000 steps. Very well done!👌🏻
Next stop Niesentreppe, Switzerland. 11674 steps and about 1600 height meters. That would be insane!😅
Wow! That was ridiculous!
Incredible view
They need a shuttle for those stairs 😅😂
Just. Wow!
Freakin nuts!
Unbelievable Remy
From this footage you can clearly see that the Earth is indeed round.
Absolutely insane.
just... WOW
best of the internet!
The fact your even riding after that tree is insane to me same week too
Absolutely amazing! Imagine how long it took to build that too!
*"Get Off The Sidewalk, er, RIDGELINE Staircase/Walkway...!!!"*
*"Stay Off The Lawn...!!!"*
Wow. Dream ride.
Crazy man !
Omg I get 🦋 in my stomach just watching the exposure 🤭
Unreal View! 🤯
Instagram vs. reality @4:27 😂 Epic ride guys!
I can't imagine how much stress this puts on brakes. Constant riding at controlled grip... Wow! I would probably need an extra set of break pads... and arms😅
Yeah buddy! insanity!!!
Beautifful place, awesome..
Wow man...There were a few moments there when I was scared!
Such an incredible view remind me beckgrounds from PC games))
So cool!
I’m going there to hike them!!! Definitely.
How long did it take you to get to the top while carrying the bike?
We all want to see you race Megaavalanche next year!
Incoyable 👌👍
Oh my good 😳
Wow beautiful view!
Is that a new line for rebull hardline? 😂
The view
Definitely a stair set of Doom as Pilgrim would say. Just out of curiosity, did you ramp up the Low-speed compression at all on your fork or shock for the stairs?
punaise un super bon réglage des suspensions à tester avant cette descente , rappelles moi ce que tu as comme suspension déjà ? bon ride
Sublime et engagée ❤ vidéo topicime🎉
for a pair of rampage riders to walk sections.. thats gnarly
Idk whats more impressive, getting up or getting down!
Damn... I ride *regularly* (in NewEngland) on my
*TREK FarleyEX8 *Full-Suspension FatTire MountainBike** 140mmF/120mmR with **PNW Coast SuspensionDropper** & **Fabric Cell Saddle** & **FastFlexx SuspensionBars** & **ErgonGrips** ...
I bet this combination would have been *More 'Comfortable'* with Greater Traction than his setup...
Where in Norway is this, just hiking up without rucking a bike up. Then Down, really you both insane.
What skills do you suggest developing to become better at mountain biking? Are there any workouts you suggest that target the muscles used for mountain biking? What bike do you suggest / use currently?
I ask all of this because I am somewhat new to mtb-ing, only having done it for ~5 years and only ever having been able to do it at extremely limited trails that do not offer much challenge. You are an amazing biker and I would love to learn how to become better at mountain biking since it is a sport I am passionate about.
Looks like my next hiking trip. How were the costs there relative to the Canadian dollar?
Similar cost of living as us
If it looks this steep on a GoPro, I can't imagine how steep it really is IRL
It's steep, narrow and spectacular. These stairs are even better than Reinebringen in Lofoten, Norway, but mountains are a bit better in Lofoten 😊
@@Helge_Torp thanks man gotta visit Norway sometime in the future!
@@Dwyane1st you definitively should. The area where these stairs are, is incredible. I am fortunate to have a job where I have to drive all over Norway (in a regular car), so I get to have a paid road trip "vacation" many times a year 😊
type 2 fun
looking forward to see sam pilgrim riding this :), ok after viewing that whole video , i dont thing sam should do this!
How do you deal with not freaking out on that exposure?
Wow this video makes Red Bull Skygate and Montserrat. urban DH race look like a normal set of stairs on the streets it is that gnarly
highlights. for me was at 3:37 an 11:07 kids don’t try that at home breaking. and turning on stairs at the same time it’s a very tricky skill to master
Who built that, how many tons, and how long did that path take to build?
That view is beautiful 😍
