Hard to believe watching this video that Anthony is about to leave us. A truly remarkably talented racer. Definitely sorry he didn’t have a better circle of friends around him. God Bless Go-Show and Thanks for the memories.
He most certainly did, the v twin Duke had a capacity advantage over everything by 150cc's, the yamaha and hondas had more power as well many times, what he lacked in power he made up for with determination and skill on the green machine.
I remember showing up at the AMA national at Sears point in 2,000 when Anthony was doing double duty on the Grave's Motorsports Yamaha R6 and the ex Haga R7 and around 3 hours into watching him in Thursday's promoter practice, I looked at my rider Andre Castanos and told him Anthony was gonna win both the supersport and superbike races on Sunday- I'm not sure exactly what it was, I just had that feeling from seeing the incredible speed he was carrying up the front straight into turn one - Andre said I was completely crazy, but 3 days later, Anthony was grinning on top of the podium after having won both the 600 and superbike race by over 10 and 15 seconds respectively- a total DEMOLITION of the competition - an incredible and unforgettable talent- RIP ANTHONY GOBERT
In his first year racing Supercross in the senior ranks,he won the 1992 Australian supercross title. Then he decided to go road racing...and need I say more. Such a gifted rider. RIP Anthony
Can not belive the go show is dead I am saddened to here this I loved watching him when he first rode the Kawasaki zx7r in wsbk and then rode the bimota to there first ever win in SBK he had a great natural talent to the go show Anthony gobbert RiP and my thoughts are with all the Gobbert Fanily at this sad time you where a brilliant racer you will always be remembered
True. It's characters like Go Show, Scott, Foggy, Chili, Edwards etc that are missing from WSBK these days. Haven't bothered watching it for years. This era was the definitive one for me. RIP A.G.
So good to remember the great times with Anthony the Go-Show! What a talent, what a rider. A very sad loss to family and friends and ALL who knew of him. Rest in Peace Anthony.
I'm so sad about his passing . He could have been the King of the Motorcycle Racing World but chose a different path . His ride at the P.I. Superbikes against Russell & Fogarty is the stuff of legends and I'm glad that I was there to witness the "Go Show" . RIP
Gobert was quite possibly the most naturally gifted rider ever. He would show up to race so over weight that he could barely zip up his leathers. He would then go out and demolish the field.
17.1.24 and the Go-Show has left us. Media want to knock him, but fail to remember he lost Suni Dixon in 2004, which must have been hard. I remember holding up a picture of a wildly sideways ZXR while explaining to classmates why bikes were way cooler than cars. RIP Anthony
Remember some magazines of the era painting him as a gobby arrogant loose cannon, but as an older man now I can imagine he wouldn't have had it easy as an obviously great rider so young on a grid with more experienced riders to the psychological side of racing. Being ordered to let team mates win when you know you could have taken the win must be hard. Especially on "home tracks" I think many of the teams that fronted him early on just didn't know how to nurture him properly, making him play second fiddle to more sure bet bigger names.. tried to force him into their mold and not understand his genius. His freestyle ability to just get on and nail it to the max and make it stick was a crowd winner for sure, but any big team isn't going to deal well with someone who pushes back on authority.
Over lunch 2 pm in Yamaha hospitality tent 2014 Laguna WSBK event Scott Russell shared with me story start to finish Phillip Island 1994 . Scott's final remark " Best racer to ever sling a leg over a motorcycle"
Years ago on holiday in Italy maybe 2006. I wandered into a bike store and i bought a gobert T shirt had the grim reaper on the front and big on the back. I wore it till it was threads. Cos he was a legend in my eyes. RIP THE GO SHOW
Anthony was some talented man, if only he had better people to help guide him in life. I remember reading that Troy said he was the most talented rider ever to put his leg over a bike.
thanks for posting all these great memories , magical time of SBK , great racing and neil and julian in the commentary box made that little more special i always rated Anthony he could have been a world champ had the talent thats for sure, , shame to hear what became of him
Omg wow the first shot of your video with the brace of ducati and arron slight, brought back very happy memories or me watching it,, I even used to watch them all live if I could, and at the end of the year buy a video,,then later it went to dvd .. great racing,, I used to love watching moto gp,, with mighty mick Doohan and the British superbikes with Chris head banger walker on the nuts kawasaki 750 and the crazy yamaha ysf 750 Cadbury boost bikes, they looked beautiful. ❤
It would've been good to see that wet Philip Island race on the Bimota in full. Going back a while but I remember he completely dominated the opposition that race. I was on my way to the island that morning, but the boys and I turned back because we were soaked to the skin before we even got halfway from Melbourne.
It's wild to think that pn the 9th of January 2024, I was at Sydney Motorsport Park hanging out in Troy Corser's garage with some mates. I made it home, turned on the TV, put TH-cam on and got this as a suggestion. 2 weeks later, the go show is dead. Life is too short.
I have just heard that "The go show" Anthony Gobert possibly one of the best talents to throw his leg over a race bike has passed. Very very sad, thoughts go to his loved ones.
Fogarty got smoked by Gobert, and Gobert had never ridden that Kawasaki before this meeting. At this meeting, Gobert literally walked out of Honda's pit garage, walked into Muzzy's, and signed to ride that ZRX. THEN PROCEEDS TO PUT A BIKE HE HAD NEVER RIDDEN BEFORE ON POLE POSITION. IN ONLY HIS SECOND YEAR IN ROAD RACING!!!!!!! Of course, Fogarty being the total tool he is, said, I could have beaten Gobert if I needed to. Fogarty also said "the only reason I wasn't 500cc World Champion is because they didn't give me a bike". WHAT A TOTAL PHUQWIT!!!
Levis 501 Bimota SB8R road bike at Phillip Island 2000... It was 20 kph off on the speed trap. Slowest bike in the race by far... Guess who smoked everyone by 29 seconds 😉 Gobert 1st Forgerty 2nd 29 seconds behind.
@@mikethebike3763 i think it was Goberts good knowledge of his home track Phillip Island and straights werent too long. At the faster tracks he was left far behind. It was a very unexpected win.
It’s hilarious seeing Neil Hodgson doing special comments on this video .. isn’t he the one that got his helmet crapped in by Goey ? what a legend , Anthony was the most entertaining racer in the history of motorcycle racing.
A. Gobert... not only a genius driver, but also a clever and friendly team mate !!!!!!!!!! What did Russel do in Race 2 at Phillip Island ??? ... and later on Ducati nr. 95 :))
I believe that was 1994. Russell went to GPs mid season in 1995. Met Gobert at Mid-Ohio I believe it was 1999. With all his troubles he was approachable. As I remember the Ducati did not do well that day but Gobert was so talented. Foggy, even though he did not care for Americans was an awesome talent himself.
Rip Anthony Gobert wild life died to young.. Was at brands hatch 97 I think hanging on the safety wall on start straight .Riders doing their focus thing Gobert comes up to the wall unslips his leathers and has a piss..Couldn't give a shit..😂😢😢😢
notice the different riding style of that era. Gobert was something like Doohan, up over the bars, These days they have a lot more side grip and its all lean and shoulders down. That comes from 250 2 strokes, and became the norm as technology of the bigger bikes evolved.
Modern technology does help a lot to make a bike rideable at that level of leen, also factoring In better tyre grip and predictability over a race duration, better suspension, less weight of the bikes. Still the competition is still the same but I definitely found watching the guys master the bikes of this era more. Just seemed the rider could actually make more of a difference than just what the team can muster up
Russell pushed his rear tire so hard he blistard it. The ZX-7RR was an extremely heavy bike and Russell pushed it way past what the Dunlop could handle
Levis 501 Bimota SB8R road bike at Phillip Island 2000... It was 20 kph off on the speed trap. Slowest bike in the race by far... Guess who smoked everyone by 29 seconds 😉
You don't know anything - He's won Multiple MX / Flat Track Titles & Australian & WSBK Rounds - yes he could probably had of won a World Championship if he was more dedicated - Rip Anthony 'Go Show' Gobert 😞🥀
RIP Anthony Gobert, so sad to lose the go show today.
Hard to believe watching this video that Anthony is about to leave us. A truly remarkably talented racer. Definitely sorry he didn’t have a better circle of friends around him. God Bless Go-Show and Thanks for the memories.
I'm just finding out. Watched this literally weeks ago. He outrode seasoned world champions with ease. It's very sad news...🤔
He most certainly did, the v twin Duke had a capacity advantage over everything by 150cc's, the yamaha and hondas had more power as well many times, what he lacked in power he made up for with determination and skill on the green machine.

Man what a time to be alive, I’ll forever be a Scott Russell fan but this was an era with countless titans
Beautifully put! I share that with you.

He'd do that straight after winning the Supercross too. Gifted.
I did some of my best racing when I was a fatass. LoL
I thought he did that before he got overweight & past it
Anthony was like a evil version of Freddie Spencer
He was in grand prix racing and got booted out with drug use. Made no impact in the highest class of racing.

My paddock impression of Gobert was his notably courteous manner with fans, a rare quality not often seen at the racetrack.
I sure miss this racing with these guys.
Agreed. This era blows today's superbike racing out of the water.
Wow.... 1996! I was having a great year and the racing was even better. I'm still racing... 32 years now.

What the hell is the Kawasaki at 59:44? Team dream? Can't quite see it but that livery is amazing.

These Muzzy WSBK 7RR's were actually really light - magnesium 'everything' and loads of trick parts - the wet weight was 355lbs 👍
RIP #4- made that Kawasaki look good. Too bad he couldnt get ahold of his mental issues.
SB8R ride?
Cawza and Eron. LOL
Can't forget Go Show, one of my favourite of anytime. His problem was his b****y mother!!!
Hmm I'm not sure I could feel a 2% difference in a 300 kg package. The way that bike kicks over logs doesn't look compliant either...
TWO HOURS!! Love to watch we ain’t got 2 hours, would of been better in a 20 min vid (your views would be higher too)
I’m watching one or two races every night. Just use the ⏹️ and pick it up later 😉 Love watching Gobert!
