- Nico Murillo is the proud owner of a Tesla Model Y, mainly because he’s part of the team that built these cars at the factory in Fremont. But on April 15, his dream job would sound more like a nightmare: The 29-year-old is just one of the roughly 14,000 Tesla employees to be laid off since April.

Coincidently, this story is happening in graduation season, but it's also a great lesson for the young people who are graduating. Don't EVER live your job or think your employer is going to give you the same loyalty back. Glad to see this young man moved on quickly to something else.
Yup, especially if you work in any field that is even remotely linked to the tech sector, layoffs are just an annual tradition that coincides with the stock market earns report.
This is the reason I went back to school. One of the things that I thought was really growing up was being given a two week notice by your employer that you are being let go, but that is not true at all.
I was at a starbucksn the cv. I overheard a girl say shes going to get her associates soon and that she can't wait to apply and work for Tesla. In my head I was like ouch!
It is not about loyalty…it is about the economy. Businesses go bankrupt when they continue to run as usual when they’re not bringing in the revenue-it is very simple. He has gained a very valuable set of skills. from the company. Every job can end at a moments notice, you could be fired for doing something wrong, they need to cutback to save the company, etc. You should always be saving your money and have a slush fund in case you lose your job. Unemployment may not cover all of your bills if you have overextended yourself. 0:01 There is no reason why he has to sell his house-he could easily rent it out. From what he was saying, his mortgage is very low-$1000.00 per month plus everything else, he is paying about 2000 a month for his home which he could easily get if he rented it.
Why should a company let you live in a home when you can live in your car.
for these corporations, a worker is just a robot that can be used and discarded on demand
That the way a corporate works. The solution is to never work for a corporate!
That's the reality for any corporation you work for
Not like a small business. I got a job once, now the owners are obligated to keep me for life.
Well based on Musk's latest statement that basically says "if you think Tesla was a car company, you're an idiot, it's robotics and AI company" you are spot on with that comment!
A lot of companies pretend to be sympathetic. Give people a couple weeks, let people look internally for a job... etc.
Elon companies just lock out people, and thats how they figure out they are fired.
Nicos parents here...thank you for every comment good or bad...we are in high spirits that our son will come out of this a much wiser person...best regards Manuel & Sylvia
Why is he living in his car and not at your home? Family values much

I worked at Tesla in 2017. As much as it was very cool and fun to work there (I worked as a Test Driver), I was concerned of the hardcore employees that went beyond the call of duty for the company. I told them to be a dedicated employee and do the job what you’re paid for. But also I informed many of the younger workers that layoffs can happen so don’t be pissed off. Anyhow, many got laid off back in 2017. But with the cycle of layoffs, Tesla will hire people back depending which department has the needs.
For any young people, work hard and smart. No need to be loyal to your employer as it’s just business. Do the work you were hired to do, build your financial foundation, and make sound decisions in life. The journey of life has lots of twist and turns, but life goes on.
Bad advice. Good career advice is suck up to the boss.
You meant VDT driver
Indeed. You are right
Yes indeed.👍
@@fixpacifica Yes, when your boss is fired. you too.
don't simp for elon guys
Too many of them
We don't. But we also don't fall for the childish foolishness of attacking Elon. I mean Google laid off THOUSANDS. But where's the media blitz about Google CEO?
Where are people simping for Google’s CEO?! Does he have a platform he owns?!
At the factory, a lot of them bootlick him
They love meat riding him 😂😂😂
I watch this guys YT channel, he chose to sleep in his car because he lives in the valley(Lathrop) and didn't want to do the daily commute. Likely because he could only afford homes out there. Part of a bigger problem in the bay area regarding affordability. I commend him for doing what's best financially. I would've done the same thing to save money and time on the commute.
Alright then…I’ll refute my previous comment about his 3 hour round trip. But seriously? A Tesla employee can’t rent an apartment 30 mins away?
@@kevinbernatek7875he definitely can but he bought an expensive house in lathrop. He said he regret buying the house, he said he rather lives in his car. Production supervisor makes between 90-150k a year.
His problem is that he worked more than 12 hours. Jokes on him…
There should some high speed rail out to the Central Valley now. I know so many people who live out that way and work in the Bay. I mean the could have started working on this in the 1990s.
That is so nice of them they emailed him saying you've been fired.
Always look out for you.
good thing he has that SUV model more spacey
But when you pull the seats down, the floor is not level.
Why they acted like victim? They didn’t get paid while they were working?
Some companies want 110% effort all the time, yet wonder why their workers aren't keen on that. This is one reason.
In the late 70's, I saw a bumper sticker on a car that is as true today as it was then; A drawing of a Pillsbury doughboy-like character with a big bolt in the middle of his chest, and the inscription: "Work hard, Ye shall be screwed".
this guy is getting all the internet fame from the layoffs. best of luck
lol
But he also get the upper management fired due promote and hiring him.
Elon gettin ready to roll out a new robot staff.
Underrated comment.
That's essentially what he's hoping to do. No more meatbags.
😂 This dude has a whole house in the Central Valley!!!! This guy chose to sleep in his TESLA, instead of driving back home to the Central Valley!!! Sorry dude that’s life!!!!
I'm sure Tesla will build some employee tiny homes on site in the future. We're speed running back to serfdom.
That’s what happens when you buy a house two hours away from where you work🥳🤡🤷♂️

I would trade that Tesla junker for a Toyota hybrid. I would also ditch that Tesla shirt.

The cars that came out of that factory were full of alignment issues
That has nothing to do with the employees on the assembly line. It's all in the hands of the design engineers who didn't do the correct measurements and tolerances for the parts.
Well, Elon is all about "Sell first, repair later"
@@freesoul2005 No argument here
Take it to any tire shop that can do an alignment on the car for 100$ but the factory should've done that
@@BIGHAMZA It has everything to do with the employees on the assembly line. The chose to cut corners by not doing the alignment properly. If it was the design engineers fault none of the tire shops would be able to get it aligned properly.

That's the main issue. They think he is their best friend or something.

The guy has a business degree and knows much more than just focusing on paying the bills. He invests his money in the stock market; in other words, use his money to make money for him.

Mistake #1- He bought a p.o.s tesla for his commute. Which has probably lost 70% value. Could have bought a 2007 pontiac vibe (aka, Toyota matrix). Which happened to be built under the same roof (Numi). A 4 cylinder getting close to 38mpg highway and plenty of sleeping space. Which he could sale today for 90%+ return. Mistake #2- His house would continue to go up in value, yet he's choosing to sell and invest in the stock market. Just saying.

This is also a reason why you don't see high speed rail into the central valley.
If we had trains like that, more folks would just live further away, and thus, the housing prices within the Bay Area would significantly drop.
The Tokyo Metro area is just exactly like this. Many folks live further away (45 mins - an hour+ commute) like Yokohama, Shinagawa, Chiba, etc away from Tokyo proper because they can rely on efficiently, dependent, rail transportation.

At least there is severance pay. Not many company does that.
Companies will lay people off in tough economic conditions. I don’t understand why this is surprising. The business has only recently become profitable it has the obligation to keep itself alive. If earnings continue to fall, investors will divest and Tesla will go out of business. There’s no promise that Tesla will succeed. Be happy that you live in a country where you can find work, basically, anywhere to get you by in the short term.
Stop crying. I’ve been working two jobs on and off for three years because of the current state of the economy. I’ve cut personal expenses down. I’m learning new skills. Just get to work.
Lets go ahead and make it to the news every time someone get laid off from their job. It happens to a lot of people, those working for tesla are not more important than any other layoff employee.
