  • The TriStar made waves with the recent introduction of several new designs made for the turkey hunter. The upland hunter in the beautiful bronze cerakote and mossy oak bottomland finish along with the guns sleek and lightweight design make for an rig that any turkey hunter young or old can take out. The 20 gauge, paired with the right load gives all the payload needed to deliver the needed punch for tagging your gobbler.
Today we are looking at the Tristar 20 Gauge and seeing how Edward has set this rig up with a red dot on a shotgun, using a meadow creek mount. After a brief look at the gun, well get down to business and pattern test 20 gauge turkey loads to see which shot is the best combination for the the Tristar Turkey Shotgun.
All shots are Tungsten Super Steel or TSS, Each shot is patterned at 40 yards. We will be using Federal #9 TSS, Apex Turkey Ninja #8.5s, Apex Small Town Blend #9 / #7.5s, Apex Turkey #8s, Herters #9s, Browning TSS Blend #9 / #7,

Great Video. Have you ever shot the bottom barrel to test where it prints its POA / POI compared to the Top Barrel?

This gun actually has a great horizontal POA. It’s pretty true with the up and down as well but naturally with the o/u makes it tough to hone it in without a dot.

How is the poa with top barrel VS poa with the bottom barrel

It does fairly well. When I set this dot up I did so with the intentions of splitting the difference between upper and lower, But favoring the top barrel as the primary shot and setting it a bit high. Its been a couple years since I set all that up so I should revisit and see for sure, but as I recall both barrels were acceptable in there Horizontal so getting the vertical where I wanted was the only hurdle.

It’ll be nice if you told us how many ounces of shot

Those TriStar 20s with TSS kick worse than any gas operated 12s.

She definitely kicks. I think I separated a retina on one of them shots

That herters is your load for that choke in that gun.
I think the choke is a bit tight.
Probably .565- .585 in that gun.

Herters has impressed me in several guns, prob some of the best choice for the Steven’s 301 410 with the factory choke
