Culturally speaking, the Chinese value harmony more than anything else. One needs a lot of patience to achieve that.

I noticed Chinese value balance, harmony, peace and tranquility, unlike us noisy and boisterous Africans!
We have a ton of Chinese in my country and they helped modernise our infrastructure. They have their own Chinatown where many non-Chinese love to visit for meals, shopping, etc

I don't know how long the history is, but I was a kid more than 30 years ago. It's a snack I remember. It's popular in Sichuan and Chongqing. It's hard to imagine that there are traditional tools that can be used to attract people's attention while knocking. It's also a cutting tool.

The reason you were seeing a lot of tiny street shops, is probably because you were walking around in mostly residential streets or tourist attractions lol.
There are plenty of malls and Grocery stores like Walmart in every city, and a wet market in every communities usually, even nowadays people tend to do their grocery shopping online (it takes around 30 mins to delivery to your place.)

Nowadays, many people in China like to buy things online. You can buy things from various provinces in China ( including food). Which will be delivered to your home in a short time and the price is much cheaper than shopping malls. You can even buy fresh vegetables, fruits, fish and meat that you need every day online, and these foods will be delivered to your home quickly and at a cheap price. This has caused many shops to slowly disappear.

America online shopping takes 2+days and food delivery takes an hr and is expensive fees.
If we had delivery speed like China, grocery stores and shops wouldnt survive either.

I'm a person from Chengdu and there's a few things I can help you better understand the foods in the video. In the beginning of the video you guys tried the pancake, we locals call it Danhonggao(蛋烘糕), which means egg baked cakes and has a fluffy texture and stands as one of the must-try food in Chengdu. The tofu dessert you tried I think is not a specialty in Chengdu, it's like a variation of a dessert originating in Taiwan Province but probably this dessert store is headquartered in Chengdu. In your last video, the so-called meat dumplings are more similar to Cantonese Wonton, we locals call it Chaoshou(抄手); Cantonese Wonton has a slightly thinner skin always wrapping shrimps and pork in a non-spicy soup while Chaoshou usually only has pork inside and it can be soaked in spicy sauce or a non-spicy broth.

Catch your videos late, I'm not mainlander, in Asia , except Japan and Korea ( I'm guessing, someone correct me if I'm wrong ) grocery shopping traditionaly are done open market, like farmer market in USA even for meat, in Hong Kong it could be in an apartment complex, usually dedicated first or second floor in one of the building, i think adopting to Western style grocery store mostly occurs in largest cities!
I left macau 40 years agos, never been back, so someone fill me in if my impression is wrong from doing research through TH-cam 😂, will be there when I retire in 2 years!

To your question on grocery shopping: each residential zone would usually have one or more farmers markets that sell produces at affordable prices. The more modern and built up areas would have fewer markets but more fancier supermarkets that are a bit more expensive, these are often in basements of huge malls. Both types are good places to check out if you are ever visiting again.

there are supermarkets but a lot of people just go to local wet markets or just small family style shops that typically just sell one type of food - fruits, vegs, meats, etc... and just pick up stuff from a few places within the area. nowadays some people just have groceries delivered.

Chinese is the most populous language in the world, spoken by 1.4 billion people. Chinese can be seen everywhere in Southeast Asia. Chinese is one of the six official languages of the United Nations. If you want to communicate with Chinese people, just learn some simple daily conversations. The reason why Chinese people don’t know English is because China has a huge territory and a history of five thousand years. It has formed a unique cultural atmosphere. All of my western friends who made visits to China came back with extremely high praises on China. All cities are modern.clean and very safety. There are no guns, drugs, homeless people, LGBT, delinquents, thieves, or violence in China. It is a very safe country. This the true.True you can not see it in Western media when they speak about china.

What you said at the end of this video is quite right. In China, Beijing is known as the political center, Shanghai as the financial center, and shenzhen as the technology center. It is not 100% the case (many Chinese investment banks and funds are based in Beijing, and you can also find many hitech factories in Shanghai), but it is mostly true. Actually the thing is, any city apart from Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen is much more livable than these three. The pace of life is so quick. And you have to work very hard or be super rich to live in those three cities.

Since the online order is much convenient for everyone and for the daily grocery order can deliver within 2 hours or less. And what you see on the street mostly are convenience stores, and the supermarkets are most located in the neighborhoods. Plus, in chengdu you can find most of local markets, and there you can buy meats vegetables….etc but most fun is there are many of local foods available, and there are very tasty if you into SIchuan food.
