The Single Deluxe room is easier to get at a ticket office in Japan. The process is called 10時打ち which means to push a button at 10. The system at the ticket office allows the station staff to input all the information needed before 10, and push one button to issue that ticket at 10 precisely.
Your room looks about the size of Amtrak's Roomettes, but MUCH cleaner and updated. I love trains and wish Amtrak would step up their game. Thanks for the wonderful content!
My favorite part of the Amtrak Roomette is that you don't need to win a gladiator fight to earn the right to shower. The shower card system is a true blemish on an otherwise delightful train.
Me too the sunrise express sells 1month prior to departure date at 10am. I went to the ticket office 1month prior to departure but couldn’t find the single deluxe room 😢
I've stayed at the Marunouchi Hotel (very good, excellent lounge/bar) which is one minute from Tokyo Central Station. I went shopping in that underground labyrinth under the station and got lost in about 3 minutes. The maps look like spaghetti junction and there are several levels too, so it's like three dimensional snakes and ladders. I love Tokyo.
Another great video. We have recently returned from Japan - my 4th visit and one of the best especially with the A$ to Yen currency. Ramen Street in Tokyo station is worth a visit!
I’ve gotten rooms on Amtrak trains multiple times and always had a great time and never had issues. Yes, a combination lock would be nice but the sleeper cars have attendants who know who does and does not belong there.
To be honest, I was on Amtrak in a roomette since filming this one and, I'll just say my attendant was no where near as present as yours. But present or not, for a casual traveler I'm sure the no lock situation is fine, but when you travel with your entire 'office' in your luggage, no locks is just not an option.
I can imagine your disappointment missing out on the deluxe cabin…I guess I’m getting old but all the other options looked a bit too Spartan and claustrophobic to my taste, although the journey is not overly long. It’s getting from A to B in an efficient and fast way, but missing a night…I’m not too sure about that either 😅 Thank you for another highly informative and entertaining review! 🙏🏼
Yeah, this bumpy ride and then my 105℉ Nightjet... let's just say I'm not tripping over myself to get more overnight trains on the schedule lol. High speed, that's a different story!
Are the two "sets" identical? Or could it be that the single de lux was not available for the one route you selected? Probably not. But, just a thought. The "adventure" with your temporary adopted son is hilarious!. Gone for 30 (!!!) minutes? Would have been interesting trying to explaing that to the Japanse police!
They are identical and I assume I only had access to the deluxe rooms in the set I chose, but after the first one sold out so fast, I was worried the next category would as well so just quickly came to terms lol. From my previous dummy runs, after the first day only smoking rooms were available so I didn’t want to risk it.
When I took this train in June last year, also a single cabin (but on the upper level), I also found it to be unbearably hot. Seems like that wasn't a one time issue...
@@tfft You probably looked into the Maharajah Express and stuff. Those are the Indian Equivalent of the Seven Stars of Kyushu or Shiki-Shima lol. Look at normal sleeper trains like Rajdhani, Duronto in 1st AC. Tickets are usually only 100USD or so.
Part of what makes Japan amazing to travel to is also what makes it annoying at times. Japanese people generally are extremely organized and prepare well...tickets are impossible to get and little things like the shower situation are competitive. I spent a wasted day in Tokyo Disneyland not knowing everybody would show up at 6 am and reserve all the rides.
Sure, its cool and all that. But most passengers take this train for its novelty anyways. Its not cheap, not comfortable, and generally inefficient considering the alternatives. Its not officially a tourist train but might as well be
At 3:50, 'buying tickets one month in a dance?' Or maybe thats just your way of pronouncing advance . Anyhoo, train ticket bookings in India have a similar feature called the "tatkal" booking option where you book a day prior to your journey at a particular time, and its the same concept basically. First come, first serve, you gotta really practice your memory game of booking just like your experience on this one if you're gona get the seat that you want..of course, the interiors of our trains aren't half as beautiful as our Japanese counterpart so prepare ahead, mentally at least. Thanks for another great video..ive never missed a single since i subscribed ages ago . Cheers bud and safe travels .
HI! Did you stop by to tell me I mispronounced Okayama 37% of the time? Don't worry, I've already rebooted the mainframe! 😉
I just drool over these mesmerizing Japanese train reviews. Hope that Kevin could do more of this calibre!
A few more train videos coming in the coming months- only one other sleeper though!
@@tfftIf you have time and money just experience all Japanese luxury and tourist trains. Would love to see your take on them.
I have come to thoroughly enjoy your videos.
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
7:53 I love how easy to read your graphics are!
Appreciate that!
Appreciate you for giving us room dimensions in both metric and imperial units again. Missed that in the last two videos.
Great video, as always!
I try, but it's just very clunky in speech. Thanks for watching 🩴

That definitely sounds about right. The fact that there’s a phase just for it makes me feel better about missing it lol.
I went at 11 am missed that timing😢😢😢😢
Don’t miss the shower ticket too it sold out in a blink 😂😂
Well done as always. Thank you for this content.
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
Thank you! Amazing video. Bringing back many memories for me. I love your Japan series!
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
Thanks for the great review + video!
Thanks for watching 🩴
Loved the series, Thanks Kevin!
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
I have traveled for decades with a small foldup hand fan. Handy many times.
It will sound absurd, but I used to- but no longer do becuase I don't have the space for it lol
"Nine-hour kiss" is an adorable phrase 🥰
😉
Thank You Kevin. If I had more time in Japan this November, I would take this train 😊
Enjoy your trip 🗺️
My bucket list… taking transportation in Japan is so amusing.. with bento biru highball chime and so on..
It's worth it!
Your room looks about the size of Amtrak's Roomettes, but MUCH cleaner and updated. I love trains and wish Amtrak would step up their game. Thanks for the wonderful content!
I was in a roomette recently and I can tell you they are MUCH roomier, mostly due to the width of the train itself.
My favorite part of the Amtrak Roomette is that you don't need to win a gladiator fight to earn the right to shower. The shower card system is a true blemish on an otherwise delightful train.

Yeah the exchange rates these days are crazy good.
I love this train but have not yet travelled in it. Someday soon.
Thanks for watching 🩴
18:33 From Mumbai to Delhi on AI A350?? Exciting!

You should do a video on the Tokyo Station Hotel some day. I still dream about their breakfast buffet 😅
I almost did on my last trip to Tokyo! Next time perhaps.

@@tfft Ah! One of the few down sides of Japan. The smoking. 😝
Hey did you book the ticket from Jr east s online portal?
As noted in the video, this is JR West.
For the puzzle at the end; Mumbai to Delhi on AI A350?
✅
have you tried the restaurants inside the station area, there are many great one
I trained my booking for the Pokemon train lol
I usually prefer a few Ekiben lol
❤ from india 😎

When I took this train in June last year, also a single cabin (but on the upper level), I also found it to be unbearably hot. Seems like that wasn't a one time issue...
Someday I’ll understand why so many trains- across the world- are scared of having windows that open lol.
Because of the water limitations on board do they sell only a few Shower Cards?
Yes, the trains were not designed with large water tanks apparently.
Have you ever thought about an Indian Railways journey?
I did, and the trains that I looked into had prices that would make a millionaire shiver lol

Well, it's not their fault that you didn't know the system lol
No Toto toilets on the train? :))
Can’t have it all lol
@@tfft 😂
my problem is no room is en-suite so it's hard to use the toilet
Fair enough.
Puzzle is : Mumbai to Delhi on AI A350

Let’s just say you rode half instead of both or neither ;)
Potato potato.

Sure, but it's meant to be a true alternative, not necessarially the cheapest option. Thanks for watching 🩴
Tbh i dont think its that feasible for most, especially regular commuters. But yeah its there and it works

Or... maybe you should listen again lol.
I sleep better in shaking train like little kid. So shaking is pro for me but in train not bus...
A little shaking, sure, but narrow gauge swaying, I can do without lol
