- (Alena) My first real crush was in high school. My mom and dad were divorced never really set any ground rules about boys or dating. Yet, somehow through their silence my sisters and I knew we were not allowed to date.
With very little guidance on dating, I was left to fend for myself as I went into college. And y’all know, I made ALL the typical dumb life-altering mistakes.
Because of that, I make it a priority to talk openly to my girls about the guys in their classes they have crushes on while maintaining set standards in our household for dating. Some things I try to teach my girls:
1) There’s no such thing as boyfriends and girlfriends as a child.
2) It’s better to build a friendship with a guy and really get to know him first-- before anything else.
3) Bring home the guy you’re interested in to your family! If he’s decent enough, he will offer to meet your family anyway!
But, there’s only so much a mother can say when guiding her daughter about boys, so I’m glad Joe is willing to show her the rest.

TH-cam just sent this to me randomly and I watched it again and it is just as magical and sweet the second time around. I love the questions that Joe asked for little darling. I love that she was so open and she said exactly what she said that she enjoyed herself. This little bit of time with a child to mean so much especially since they're a blended family. This was soooo nice. On soooo many levels. To see the interaction between the father and the daughter especially when I saw a video with the daughter in 2022 attending the prom- you you see her going through that early high school age with all of the stuff that's involved with being a teenager. To see her younger and just vibing with Joe and vice versa. It's just magic
