I met Buakaow once at Lannaa muay thai in chiang mai where he visited for a few hours. A humble guy full of respect , very polite, a true Muay Thai warrior.

I've seen some of his training videos and they're just insane. This guy is made of steel! While there's so many other fighters who excel at kicking, Buakaw's toughness is what elevates him above the rest. A truly magnificent fighter, one of the very few who masters at channeling his anger into pure power without affecting his fighting IQ. A living legend, the one and only Buakaw Banchamek 👏👏

It's so nostalgic watching stuff about k1 - me and my mates discovered k1/pride in highschool and just knew we'd found the holy grail of entertainment.
When i visited Japan, I collected so many old vintage posters/books etc. that you can find from those days in comic book stores and the like.
Man, Japan is a great place.
Buakaw by far had the best style to transition from Muay Thai to K1.
He is the real fighter, and he is my favorite...

One thing I'm always amazed at is Buakaw's endurance! He never has his mouth hanging open, dragging in every piece of oxygen available! His cardio must be amazing!

Be never won a Raja or Lumpinee stadium belt. He won the Omnoi stadium belt which is a level below. He was just above average on the thai scene. His success came post his Thai Muay Thai fight career one he moved out of MT into K1 kickboxing and moved up on weight.
@@boranbkk4270 just because he didn’t compete and won in Lumpinee equal to ‘he is just above average’. Average one can not be the 2 times champion of k1. Buakaw is one of the reason why Muay Thai became more well known internationally. If in the past the prize money was good enough, he may choose to compete with Thai people but since he already reach international level, why he had to choose to fight with Thai with lower money.
@@vassanab4243 You’re missing the point. The Thai scene thrives below 140 lbs…he was average below 140 where the competition is deepest. He didn’t really have big success until he started fighting farang and moved up in weight and out of the Thai MT scene. Back then before One championship Thais that fought above140 on the Thai scene were few and older hence considered past thier prime and then “allowed” to go and fight on the lesser international circuit by their thai handlers. And regarding the development of MT internationaly I’ve seen it I entered the sport in 1989 and then moved to Thailand to fight and train in 1998 and am still there 25 years later so I’ve totally seen the sport grow and yes Buakaw has played an important roll in that but I think it’s mostly due to its mass adoption in the UFC in the early 90s.

In total Sato and Buakaw fought 4 times of which Buakaw won 3. The loss was due to him having trouble with his management at that time and not taking the fight serious enough. He skipped trainings and had to realize he screwed up. This motivated him and after he separated from his old manager he was really looking forward for a re-match against Sato to get back his reputation. So as always in life a failure can be turned into a personal win and Buakaw just did that. My biggest respect for one of the worlds greatest fighters of all time.
We Japanese say that loss was a fixed match.

@@SiriusV23 no his old gym Por Pramuk ripped him off. He felt treated unfair. He wanted to leave his old gym Por Pramuk but his Manager at Por Pramuk didnt let him go. He had to fight severel years in legal action against his gym Por Pramuk to be FREE.
