Buakaw Banchamek, also known by his ring name Buakaw Por. Pramuk, stands as a legendary figure in the world of Muay Thai kickboxing. Born Sombat Banchamek on May 8, 1982, in Surin, Thailand, Buakaw embarked on his fighting journey at the tender age of eight in his hometown. His early years honed his skills, setting the stage for a career marked by remarkable achievements and unforgettable battles.
At 15, Buakaw transitioned to Chachoengsao, where he found his home at the esteemed Por. Pramuk Gym in Bangkok, Thailand. Under the guidance of seasoned trainers, he blossomed into a force to be reckoned with in the Muay Thai arena. Initially known as Damtamin Kiat-anan, he soon adopted the name Buakaw Por. Pramuk, a moniker that would become synonymous with excellence and tenacity.
Buakaw's crowning moment came in July 2004 when he clinched the prestigious K-1 MAX World Championship title, triumphing over formidable opponents like John Wayne Parr and Masato. His mastery of the artistry of Muay Thai, combined with unparalleled determination, propelled him to further glory, securing him the championship again in 2006, a feat unmatched at that time.
Despite facing setbacks, such as his loss to Masato in the K-1 World MAX 2007 quarterfinals, Buakaw's resolve remained unshaken. His journey transcended the confines of the ring, as he ventured into the realm of cinema, starring in the martial arts film "Yamada: The Samurai of Ayothaya," showcasing his multifaceted talents to a global audience.
Buakaw's resilience was tested once more in 2012 when he parted ways with his long-time gym due to unresolved issues. Undeterred, he embarked on a new chapter, establishing the Banchamek gym, a testament to his unwavering spirit and commitment to his craft. Buakaw's return to training heralded a resurgence, reaffirming his status as a titan in the world of Muay Thai.
His legacy echoes through the of martial arts history, inspiring generations of fighters and enthusiasts alike. Buakaw's name stands among the pantheon of greats, alongside luminaries like Tony Jaa, Saenchai Sor Kingstar, and Samart Payakaroon, leaving an indelible mark on the sport of Muay Thai for eternity. - กีฬา

Buakaw is an absolute legend. When I thought about Muay Thai, Buakaw was the perfect guy to represent it. Hard, humble, traditional, power, speed, endurance, technique... he's got it all. Respect for him !!!

Are you sure he is a real legend? Read the history of Masutatsu Oyama before you call buakaw as an absolute legend, his achievement is nothing compared to the real legend Masutatsu Oyama.

I am always interested in how buakaw blocks chain of punches and kicks. Most of the fighter move backwards but buakaw stands there itself and stop them very skillfully.
when you are very near to your opponent the amount of damage can be significantly lower because no space to swing

to me this fight looks rigged. Buakaw's head kick in the first round did not even hit the Chinese fighter cleanly and yet he fell to the canvas as if he had been hit full force. Then that long break where they had to fix/substitute Buakaw's groin protection, which gave the Chinese fighter a few extra minutes to recover from the supposed blow...man, I don't know.

Gu Hui disrespected Buakaw by opening too aggressively. traditionally in the first round the fighters go light and feel each other's movement and determine the reach, then pick up in pace in the later rounds. remember - if you play rough, expect to receive rough treatment. especially with buakaw as your opponent, it's not such a good idea. lol
but the Chinese fighter has HEART! respect to his bravado
