Marvel actually made x-men (Charles Xavier and Magneto) as representations of MLK and Malcolm X, they were trying to show the different perspectives they had in the comic regarding race, Xavier = peaceful/co existing and Magneto = militant minded, cared more about his race and bringing them to glory.
