MacBook Pro Directly Connect To XR16/18

- Here I have done a step by step vid on connecting a MacBook Pro directly to an XR16 or XR18. Two things to note here, 1. Make sure the Wi-Fi is switched off on the Mac before you start ! 2. Make sure the little switch on the XR18/16 is set to Ethernet ! Hope this vid helps ! Thank you for watching.

Thanks mate! Pulled the xr18 out the closet after years and got stuck trying wired method. You set me strait! Maybe cuz I had lappie still connected to net. Regardless... You got me running after multi hours flailing about. Cheers!

No connection is a 'connection' unless the full potential is achieved. There are lots of TH-cam videos where people claimed they 'connected' the R18 with a PC or laptop. That's the half of the story. Ethernet and wifi connections are only for controlling the unit using the mixer app installed on the ipad or laptop. But they can't carry the built-in 18 USB in-out audio signals to and from the R18 during a DAW session. You need a USB connection for that.

is there a way to connect a laptop to the x-air AND use the wifi on the laptop? it seems silly to have to sacrifice your wifi for a device.
Hi, I don't know the answer to that question as I have never tried it. I can't see that there would be a problem once the XR is connected to the laptop.

hello, any idea how you can play audio on your pc and it will be sent to the xr16 through the ethernet cable, then out to the speakers? Can this be done? thanks
Hi Nick, as far as I am aware this cannot be done. You can however load a USB stick up with audio and then plug this into the XR16 and play back the audio from the USB stick. Hope that helps.
So its not possible to use internet at the same time than your using the XR16? Thanks and sorry for the silly question

What if you want to record to a daw then?
Hi there, just use another lap top connected to the USB on the XR. If you want to record all the individual tracks then you would have to use the XR18 as the XR16 only records in stereo, hope that helps - cheers
hi sir...the channel 15 and 16 input can use as AUX input ?that RCA cable on channel 15,16 u connect to the smartphone?
Hi Shidai, if I understand you correctly yes, you can play music from a smartphone into Channel 15 & 16. In this video I have a Sony MP3 player plugged into Channel 15 & 16.
Looks pretty good. Do you know if you can hook up a midi controller keyboard to the XR16/18 to play software instruments in your DAW?

Hi. I recently bought an Xr18, I had a hard time finding the software for my macbook. And the truth is, I can't connect the mixer with my computer. Is there a drive that needs to be installed? or if you have the download link for the mac program? grateful.

Hi, maybe check the ethernet cable, try another one? Is the ethernet switch set to ethernet? Is the XR connected on the XR-Edit? Did you turn the wi-fi off first before connecting? Hope one of those helps.

Not the XR16, no, the XR18 you can.
@@teessidesteve you can, indeed. Only 2 channel in and out for R12 and R16. R18 has 18 channel in and out.
