i am still struggling with the theory explanation of tri-tone subs but i like the "half step above where you're trying to go" approach. feels a little more accessible! i'm sure the theoretical reason why will click eventually. haha!

@@dnlwht yes a similar progression but in a minor key, Besame Mucho or any simple minor song would be a good framework for your passing chord system ☺️
