We've been having a ton of fun flying this new Mavic Mini and overall are really really impressed with the results from this tiny "toy" drone.
A quick note from what I mentioned not having to follow the rules in the video 👇
The weight of 249 grams places Mavic Mini in the lowest and safest weight class of drones, which in many countries may exempt it from certain regulations. For example, in the United States and Canada, you can fly Mavic Mini without the need to register your drone with the government. However, please make sure to research your local fly rules and regulation prior to your flight as always.

So in Canada you have to register your drone and have a drone pilot certificate if you're flying a drone that weights more than 250g... I had a laugh when I saw that 249 printed in large font on the side of it

I agree I laughed too! I have a DJI Mavic pro but can't use it since the course for a drone license is 60 hours in Canada and that's for basic.
I have mavic air love it, but rules and now we get this , yup I'm ordering it. :)

yeah that's probably half the battle when getting good drone videos.......obviously. But i don't think most people realize that haha. They just say "why isn't my video looking like the videos from dji"?
@@2cool0 I work in the film industry as a commercial drone pilot flying big rigs, many time swe get awesome locations that these guys just do not use well enough... i think to my self i have to come back here at some point...never do though...wow sorry just got distracted but Nijel's comment below...so uncalled for!

Agreed. It's the only one that pointed out that exposure compensation is available in video and produces beautiful results. All the other videos I've seen so far appear to be shot full auto and too light and have blown highlights.
This drone is amazing! For my Jordan movie, I shot with the Mavic Air and it was sooo good, u don't ever need the best drone guys 😍😍😍

When he said raw, he meant it as in unprocessed. It only shoots JPG & H.264.
@@Neberheim True; RAW applies to stills only, not video, so it's misleading for those not completely familiar with the term. RAW photos and raw video are two different things.

Great job man. Stumbled onto this and can never sing enough praises of fluid presenters who stay on topic with no umms, etc. and clearly know their material. Made your video’s time just fly by. Definitely considering the Mini now along with the Pro 2.
Making the footage available was super helpful. Being able to throw these clips in premiere and abuse them with lumetri is way more valuable than listening to videos on youtube where you're never really sure if the person was paid to say nice things.
I had mine in high winds, and the footage was..... Cinematic it seemed!

Wow HUGE help! I already bought the mini after a ton of research and your vid really validates I bought the right one. This is my first drone and after having it for a week it’s been a great learning experience! If this does turn into a more serious thing for me I do know what I would like to upgrade to for sure! Question: Wouldn't you be better off shooting at 25fps for a 24fps timeline so you can use that 40Mbps bitrate over fewer frames?
I think this is the drone for me. I've started travelling a lot recently, trying to see as much of the world as I can before I have to grow up and settle down. I got a GoPro Hero 7 black a few months ago for the purpose of taking some sick underwater shots but I noticed that after a while I started preferring the 2.7k res over the 4k because it gave me better battery life, more room in my MSD and I could turn on the auto stabilisation in 2.7K res. Plus, the footage I got was some incredible stuff, just beautiful footage. So when I see that this drone is capped at 2.7k 30fps, I don't even mind. The 2 most appealing things to me about the Mavic Mini is the weight and price point. 249g is amazing because I can 100% find room for it in my luggage. Its so light, I can easily take it with me anywhere. And AUD$499 is a hell of a lot better than AUD$2499 for the Pro2. I don't see any down side to this drone. Especially seeing that it still have a 31 minute fly time and 4km range. Well done DJI! When this drone drops in Aussie stores, I'll be getting my hands on one of these pronto.

Andy Fyon you don’t need one since it weighs 249grams. The Canadian rules are if it weighs between 250g-25kg you’d need a license to fly it

Lonna, let us know how you are doing in high altitudes with the Mini. I just saw a guy on youtube having problems around 7000 feet elevation. Thinner air and weaker motors might be a problem on this bird, thanks!

I do find it funny when people say 2.7k is “passable”. Most feature films that are released these days have 2K digital intermediates which, for those playing at home, is a lower resolution than what this drone can shoot.
but shot with arri alexa or varicam camera's, ... with cine prime lenses...

Actually, where I have a bitrate limit on small sensors I tend to shoot 2.7k even when I could choose 4k, because the bitrate doesn't change and you end up storing more information per pixel, so you get better editing.

Nice presentation! I would like to ask some questions about this new drone before I buy it
1. In case of loose gps signal suddenly could drone execute RTH ? Is there a way to put a gps tracker on drone to help me find it, if cannot execute RTH and fly away?
2. Could mavic mini fly in ATTI mode?
3. At RTH mode could I use the sticks to turn direction a little? In other word will let me use the sticks and then continue the RTH or it will return to manual and abort RTH?
Thank you so much for providing us with footage straight from the drone. In comparison to the photos you've taken i can see considerable edge sharpening on the video footage which sometimes results in black outlines around certain details. are there settings one can make to adjust the standard filtering/effects applied during recording or is that something we would have to live with.?
I've resisted drones due to the regulations and restrictions, but this is interesting. Willing to give up pro features and sensors for the ease of use otherwise.
Unfortunately regulations can be changed by our masters any time they feel like it. After all its the great "Drone menace" Thousands killed every year by Mavics.......
@@jameslovell8682 i couldn't agree more! Here in India its a disaster! Aviation department permissions, Police permissions and many more they take so long to process it, and if found without permission then you're in big trouble.

FAA regulations still apply. It's simply that you are not required to register the drone at this time. FAA was very careful about not giving a low weight limit to any of its drone regs, except for registration. And if you want to use it for commercial use, you still need to register it.
Do people really care that much? Here in Sweden, I don't know anyone who cares about the regulations on drones aside from the obvious ones (stay out of airport areas etc.)

Got the mavic air. It’s compact, 20 min of usable flight, the image is great compared to the first mavic pro (it was too processed on sharpness).
I’ve been considering the Mavic Air for a while, though regulations and budget had me waiting for excactly this drone! Compact, yet far better editing capabilities over the Spark’s 1080 footage. Slightly disappointed with the lack of colour profiles, though the price justifies it IMO.
mavic air, maybe if the anamorphic works for this one since it doesn't for the Air :(
Actually I’m planning to get the Mavic Pro 2 with the HB sensor, for it’s better battery life and radio range compared to my Air.
And a lil bit for the better image.
Just sold my Mavic air as I stopped using it but I must have a drone for trips and the occasional aerial video.
Not only for kids or beginners, but great for the occasional flyer 👌🏾

Great video, Ive been watching a few videos on the mini trying to decide to get one...I bought a mavic pro last year and love it, but I’m just getting into photography and definitely don’t know how to use the pro to its fullest and what, so that’s why I’m considering getting rid of the pro and getting a mini! After watching your video it pretty much made up my mind to get the mini!!

Tianablue forget ‘em! Since the drone is only 249 grams it doesn’t have to be registered in most countries! You can just get out there and fly straight away.
@@InexorableVideos If you want to fly commercially you DO still need a license but he is correct that you do not have to register this due to the weight. DO NOT FLY IN RESTRICTED AIR SPACE, luckily this shows up and notifies you on the screen.
If this becomes as popular as it seems, wonder how long before the FAA/CAA reduce the weight limit to less than 250g! 😲
i just researched this for canada. you can fly this without any restrictions or registration in canada. except the obvious though, dont fly in an airport but it says "micro drones (under 250g) dont fall under basic or advanced operations but never fly to endanger people) bottom of the page
