When I took my dog to the Vet just a few weeks ago they pull out all these statistics for my area. Southwest Michigan. Trying to scare me. I do have a friend who’s dog got heart worm while on the Herat worm prevention. The pill makers had to pay for his treatment. Fortunately he survived the treatment. So tired of it all. 🌞💕🌞
I'm in Kansas and I don't use it. I made the mistake by signing up with Banfield pets and man they are a rip off I didn't even bother bringing the dog in with them while stuck with contract. They wanted me to put the dog on two different calming medications to have it passed out in order to bring him in. (Pitbull/Cane Corso)
I forget if it was revolution or advantage but this medication had my dog nauseated and disoriented. Luckily i realized it was oil based and washed him off with dish soap right away. He was better almost instantly
I asked my vet if we could do a blood test once a year for heart worms on both my dogs...she said no problem...after that I always did it this way...if they are sick we treat...if they are not why give them this chemicals for 15 years ..so far I never had a dog with heart worm...but I test once every year with my vet just in case..make sense! Why would I take an Tylenol every day in case I get an hake...If and when I do then I'll take one. Just ask your vet!
Thank you for this info, I don’t believe in those meds. I was surprised to hear my favorite Vet here say to use it 😢. I’m gonna have my vet do a blood test. I didn’t know a blood test can find heart worms. 🙏🏼
@@laurengianna9944 Yes that is the way they know a dog as heart worms or not...it comes out on a heart worm test...so makes sense to test once or even twice a year depending on your vets recommendation ...and treat only when necessary...
@@nathaliet197 thank you so very much! Lately here in NY my baby has been getting bit up! I as well. I bought a natural essential oil bug spray so I hope it helps us both haha. I will get that test done as soon as possible. Thank you again 🙏🏼❤️🐕🦴🐾
@@nathaliet197 oh I also bought a raw Baltic amber collar from Lithuania, spoke to some fellow pooch owners who bought it for their fur babies. I’m waiting for it to arrive. It’s said that it prevents fleas, ticks and possible mosquitos too. Can’t wait to try it out.

@patriciagiedraitis Do you give any heartworm prevention during the summer when mosquitos are bad? We live in WV/VA and I stopped tri-heart plus but wondering if I should give it only during the summer and figured I’d ask you who likes herbal treatments but also lives in VA. I have surrounded my yard with citronella, lavender, rosemary, lemon balm, lemongrass, marigolds, sage and sprayed. Also give Apple cider vinegar in their water periodically throughout the week. My old dog drinks it but my younger one is more picky. TIA!
We live in Georgia where have mosquito. Please help with what is the best time of the year to give our new fur baby heartworm medicine. Thank you in advance. #Newly Pet Owners 🥰
I spray for mosquitoes and I go out with my dogs in the yard, I see very little mosquitoes and if I do, we go back inside. Don’t go out when mosquitoes are out, early morning and at dusk.
I would like to know how to treat it. My veterinarian suggested to give anti heart worm medication for several years so they don’t reproduce and die. What do you suggest?
I have an 8 month puppy and live in south Jersey. Mosquitoes are bad where I live. My friend’s dog just tested positive for heartworm! Last week I ordered heartgard for my dog. It that safe and effective??? Please help
My vet prescribed ivermectin and does the dosage call ATI on of how much to administer (and not from the hay feed stores). It is cheaper and you can have a long lasting supply.
Is Revolution better than Heartguard? My dog is on Heartguard right now, but I’m gonna need to replenish soon, so I am wondering if this Revolution is better. It seems like it is since it has flea prevention too!

They need to make it over the counter. Making it only available with a prescription is just a money grab.
Ivermectin is a heart worm preventative.
@@slgrib Good to know!! I was wondering about that. Will start my research!
We are in NC. I treat with Interceptor Spring-fall. That has worked out great for the last 20+ years.
Thank you…. Gingers area is in Texas so I’ll keep her on the pill. Every month I feel like I’m poisoning her. ❤️
Glad this is helpful:)
We live in TN so I’m only going to give in active months ie spring and summer.
Are there brands you recommend?!
Revolution is the same thing as ivervectin
So really happy to hear not necessarily needed in areas where infection isn't high.
Glad to hear my video is helpful😊
Ivermectin? I live in Queens NY and can’t find info regarding mosquitos. I wonder if there is a natural way to prevent heart worm @veterinary secrets
