  • The Nikon F4 has been one of my favorite film cameras these past few years, it offers so much as a professional camera but for price that any entry level enthusiast can afford. In the process of paring down my collection there was always going to be times like these where I’m bummed to part ways with a camera but this is the first and thus worthy of the video.

After looking at the Nikon F3 for a few months, I discovered the F4 is much better, and slightly cheaper. So I got a banged up one, which I didn't know how to put down for a couple of months. So I got another two, because I felt it will get unreasonably expensive in the future, and I wanted to (at least) have a back-up and spare parts for one functioning body. Ended up with three fully functional ones, after which I discovered the MF-23 data back, which gives the F4 a different flavour, making it even more modern, and more versatile than I thought a film camera can be. One of the features that I haven't seen on any other camera is taking a shot when something passed through the frame, at the pre-focused spot. Amazing, and don't see myself selling it, even it I now have the F1, F2, and F3 at my disposal

Awesome camera! What keeps me from buying anything from that time and the mid 00's is the rubber grips tend to get sticky with age. I had a Canon Elan 7 and it was a great camera but after a year of ownership the grip became disgustingly sticky to the touch. So I ended up donating it. With the older leather covered cameras you can deal with its age by just replacing it, it never becomes sticky to the touch. Maybe a bit musty but I can deal with that.

Great camera! Built like a tank, great viewfinder, customizable, confident autofocus… for slow moving subjects. Loved it, but sold mine too after a couple years to buy an F5. 😊. Great video and homage to your F4. Thanks!

I have an F5 with a data back, prism finder, and waist level finder I'm looking to get rid of 😅

Something about the F4 that just never attracted me to it. I have a F100 and the only thing I wish that camera had is 100% viewfinder coverage (which is not that big of a deal to me).

All the F series Nikon have quite the appeal. I’d personally love to own an F6 because of its status as the peak of film cameras. Until I can afford that I’ll keep my Pentax collection fed with fresh film.

Where are you listing your cameras for sale?

Film era gear is a sellers market right now. I wonder if this trend will keep growing or drop off in the near future?
I wouldn't ever use Canon or Nikon from the 20th century as they are ugly and mediocre in my less than humble opinion.
People love paying over the odds for them and that works out great for the under rated brands. I would be amazed if you didn't turn a tidy profit, given the market right now.
