This is so good. I’m past this level of play now, but like 3 weeks ago I was being crushed in blitz by early queen players, and so I opted to go back to studying. I figured I’d play computers and get better and watch more on my favorite openings so far. The problem is: early queen play is not something that gets covered in opening education because opening study just goes over the proper lines and their variations prior to mid-game.** Well, in my quest to improve I ran into Nelson and was like omg not this again!! More queen nonsense! So I decided to scour YT, and even your channel, for all the ways to truly punish these types of players. But alas- there was no definitive content for this stuff. But now you’ve gone and posted exactly what I was needing before! So awesome! And it’s still very helpful bc now I can solidify everything I did manage to learn before to get over that hump. ** side note: a great tip for creating useful content imo would be for you to make vids about each opening again, but instead of the common lines- addressing say, 3-5 main mistakes your opponent might make that end the book lines too early, thus putting them at a disadvantage since the book lines do go on as long as they do for good reason; because if you get a line that isn’t a known variation there is likely a good reason it’s not a variation (it’s punishable by one side or the other). That’s just something I noticed in my quest to improve at chess: all the content on openings never actually goes over “well black does this in response, because if they did say X, Y, or Z- any of these early deviations from the proper lines can be punished in A, B, and C ways.”

@@honeychurchgipsy6 That was my feeling after having played against bots on my phone and then on my pc through the browser. I could be wrong about there being a difference. Assuming that the chess engine used to generate moves for the bots runs locally (on the device and not their servers) which I believe is the case, then one device may be able to look at a greater depth in the same amount of time. So if they're set to run for a certain period of time each move then one will come up with better moves than the other. Probably the developers would try to even them out, thus the engine may run a bit longer on the 'weaker' engine. But they may limit how long the engine can run to keep it more responsive to the user. You should take what I said with a big grain of salt. Of course you can test for yourself. Play 100 games against a bot using one device then 100 against the same bot on the other device. How did Nelson manage to lose 21 points of material??? Also, as a bonus, let's open the front door to the king with f4, and then throw away castling rights with Kd1 while being down a queen. In what universe would a 1300 play like this??? This would've been perfect for a guess the elo submission, but I don't know if games against bots are accepted.
@@erikstephens6370 Yeah it doesn't make any sense, I feel like I've had tougher games against lower rated bots. Guess sometimes logic goes out the window with inferior bots or maybe Nelson is overwhelmed with so many people playing him recently.

@jeedun - it goes to show that we are often doomed to lose against certain styles of play. I am 700 and can beat Nelson 9 out of 10 games. I played him again and again - did a few lectures on punishing early queen moves - and bingo - easy. Human beings, on the other hand, are just too random at low levels. Also, bots give up and are shit in an end game, so if you can survive through the opening and middle game you're going to win. Even Katspurrov plays like this.
@@jeedun - well done, but my point stands that often we are beaten by a style of play or an opening that we don't know. I could beat the 1400 bot David more easily than the 1200 Elena because of her aggressive style.

The funny thing is, Nelson, actually, one of the easiest 1200-1300 bots and can be beaten on very low player's elo (700-800). If you attack his quinn aggressively, he is programmed to blunder it (or so it seems). After that he can do some surprisingly good combinations, but if you play safe, exchange and don't blunder pieces - Nelson is relatively easy to deal with. By the end of the day, Nelson is great to practice scholar's mate and related attacks defences.

Nelson literally blundered his queen against me on move 5. No 1300 plays like this.

He always blunders queen against me
YOU'RE TELLING ME THAT A THIRTEEN HUNDRED RATED PLAYER HUNG A PIECE ON MOVE FIVE- oh wait-
The waffle house has found it’s new host
Here, Levy is like my older brother stepping in to take care of the bigger kid who’s been bullying me.
I, as a 450 elo, beat Nelson a few times and I'm sometimes very confused at those bots' moves. They randomly hang their queen and it's a free piece. I mean....I'm not complaining
Edit- I'm 800 now 🗿
One bot literally let me take three in pieces in a row with the same pawn and then promote. lol
it's because bots can't tell the difference between material imbalance and position imbalance. So it wants to give you a three pawn advantage but sometimes it will look very stupid. TBH that's why it's just more fun to play against real people.
I doubt that you beat nelson as a 450.
I beat nelson as a 460 lol yesterday
@@irgendana25 Maybe his is Ascendant, who right now is lower rated, but will quickly ascend in a couple of weeks. I was too, I ascended to 650 from 350 in 1 month after one month of training. Also, beat Nelson today and after the queen trade, that was easy (even tho, his ponies were intimidating, before we traded them)
this video is just Levy recklessly roasting nelson
Get rid of his queen early game. He relies on it so when you get rid of it, he goes down to 900 elo.
As a 924 rating, i played a lot with bots and recently i beat 1800 and 2000 bot respectively with white pieces. that was impossible almost for me and it happened.
why the respectively?¿
@@sanket8696 it means in a row. First i played with 1800 and after that i played with 2000.
How is that possible? I'm 1200 and struggle against Wally (1800). Did you play with 3 stars?
@@sanket8696 then you're clearly over 1000
@@elomemes8065 I'm 1450 and I've beaten 2000 rated bots. Use your infinite time to its fullest and eventually you'll get it.
Now we need a "how to beat mittens"
Never in eternity and here before it blows up
did you mean "how to boot up a chess engine"
?
Play bullet and survive 20 moves ez
It’s great to have this more beginner oriented content for people like me that know little-to-no theory!
Trying to let Nelson destroy himself, nearly ended up with my phone being destroyed
5:22 through 5:58 had me on the floor
"Look at this degenerate"
(gets pressured on an unprotected knight)
"Umm... Ok. Well..."
I have been stuck at Nelson for months. Your video inspired me to take him on again.
I am so unbelievably bad at chess (200-300) but Levy you make the game so incredibly exciting that I always try again. Thanks for all your content!
keep up the practice man i was also 300 but now climbed to 600 all cause of practice.
Its a matter of practice bro, just analyze after games and keep playing
Dude I yesterday beat an NM and also a FM in over the board chess in a tournament, and as a 1500 I can't believe it. I'm posting this just to share my happiness. Even that FM was our country's 2nd top rated active player
I've been playing chess for 2 months and Nelson is a great learning tool. He's terrifying for a beginner, but he is the poster child for early queen attacks. I learned a lot really quickly. I honestly think Nelson is one of the MVP bots for people learning the game.
suprised Levy took a day off from having magnus' meat in his mouth

Levy thank you for your videos you speak so clearly so everybody can understand what you say and mean. Thank you for helping us improve at chess while having fun watching your videos❤
I’m considerably bad at chess and litteraly got the app a week ago (700elo) 😢.
About 3 days ago my younger cousin (450elo) somehow beat Nelson in his first attempt. I attempted to beat Nelson and lost repeatedly. Thankfully this video has saved me, and I have now officially beaten Nelson.
I am not gonna lie i am stuck at 1400 but cant beat nelson THANKS I NEEDED THIS
@@user-yw2mh1hp5w OH MY GOD I AM SORRY I BEAT HIM BUT FORGOT CUZ I HATED THE WAY HE PLAYED AND THOUGHT I WAS STILL TRYING TO DEFEAT NELSON i am now at 1458 and i HAVE beat nelson sry HAHAHAH😂 no lie btw
@@jeedununderstandable mistake, nelson is annoying
@jeedun - it goes to show that we are often doomed to lose against certain styles of play. I am 700 and can beat Nelson 9 out of 10 games. I played him again and again - did a few lectures on punishing early queen moves - and bingo - easy. Human beings, on the other hand, are just too random at low levels. Also, bots give up and are shit in an end game, so if you can survive through the opening and middle game you're going to win. Even Katspurrov plays like this.
@@honeychurchgipsy6 no but nelson is easy for me now too like REALY easy but this would be my oppinion like 1 year ago
@@jeedun - well done, but my point stands that often we are beaten by a style of play or an opening that we don't know. I could beat the 1400 bot David more easily than the 1200 Elena because of her aggressive style.
Shit, now my opening is gonna work on people less.
Nelson. Why do you keep developing your queen to an exposed square? Nelson:Heh. Im planning something.
Man still uploads the best contant for us after 2 years HUGE respect 🙏
Please continue this series with Mittens
😂
The timing of this video could not be more perfect. I am a very new player working my way through the bots and Nelson was giving me a bit of a hard time, especially the other day when I was sick. I managed to beat him without assistance but I look forward to finishing this video to improve more.
" it's never too late to do something dumb and then Nelson makes a comeback". Trust me brother I know
25:13 His reaction to Nelson's super blunder lmaooo
As a beginner, I think this is the most helpful chess channel out there. Thank you Mr. Levy. 👍
Day 2 of asking Gotham to play FPS chess
Day 40 of me telling Gotham he is a great teacher 😊
4:25 missed opportunity to sing “rook b1, rook b1, make a move that makes no sense”
Watching this after beating nora (2200 bot that plays early queen attacks) makes me feel like a menace to society
“That move is completely brain dead” 😂😂😂
Nelson is like the trash talking amateur at the park on a Sunday chess afternoon game
Wow... this... this taught me a lot. Not just about bearing Nelson, but also about countering early quen plays.
Thanks to this video I completely embarrassed Nelson, but as revenge he murdered my entire family
Fun fact: saying “Molo!” In front of a 800-1000 player will give them a panic attack
2:35 u messed 1 up and forgot about the other 🙋🏻♂️🇦🇹🖌️
Nelson hyped me up thinking i was good so i can get my ass handed back to me by Antonio after getting pawn checkmated.
Everytime Levy tell me to play solid, my next 3 moves turns into mashed potatos and then I resign.
5:25 "I refuse to be compared to this degenerate bot"
Hey gotham, I found an effective way to defeat mittens... I'm not even 1k elo but I beat him... but won in a not-so-bright way
I've found that if you just trade queens with Nelson as early as you can, he has no idea what to do and just hangs every piece.
Everyone who knows Nelson listening to Levy describe him: "Yep. Yep. Yep. Exactly. Certainly."
I just got back into chess after an 18 year hiatus and Nelson has been clapping my cheekies for the last week
Thank god I’m not alone with this guy. A painful 20 hours of queen attacks and I’m now here.
17:23 you couldve played knight to e3, it protects the bishop, blocks check, and cant be killed because its protected by dark squared bishop
Imagine levy was your coach
“Want to crush the Nelson chess bot?” OH MY GOD!!! YES!
nelson blundered his queen and a rook to a pawn in 2 moves when there was no pressure from me at all
The chess bots are out of whack. The 1500-2000 bots are monsters and yet, I crushed Danyas 2650 bot.
The Nelson slander in the beginning was ferocious
GothamChess just completely demolishing Nelson in online chess has got to be the most satisfying thing regarding the fact that I can't beat Nelson on my own
The funny thing is, Nelson, actually, one of the easiest 1200-1300 bots and can be beaten on very low player's elo (700-800).
Fun fact , turn on assistance when you play against mittens, it defeats mittens easily.
@3:15 this is the lesson I needed. "If there's no clear benefit for an exchange, keep the tension" 🙌🏻 wasting moves for nothing
How to destroy nelson:
Step 1: git gud
Step 2: enjoy defeating nelson
I'm glad everyone recognizes that Nelson is evil.
Am I the only one who has noticed the rise of MEGAN,she now has a freaking 3000 ELO rating, and she's coming for mittens next
Levy plays so good he has to be bad for us to understand 💀
the way my brain started playing the song "rook b1 rook b1" when nelson played rook b1
Nelson is easy to beat
Just take is queen and he's absolutely useless
He sucks at identifying threats and falls for advanced traps
