@ChessImprovement Okay, I get you. I mean, I don't personally relate, as I do prefer the switches from high-level to low-level games, but I get how someone who was there from early on might miss those days.
You know, I rewatched that segment, and I just realized, how did he not see Bb7? It gets the bishop out of the way, cuts of the Rook from defending the Knight (and the square), *and* is literally only a one-square move, so it's not like the bot had to see a long diagonal. It's not one of those Magnus Carlson brilliant 7+ move combos.

HOW TO DO LADDERMATE, Laddermate is a tactical checkmating pattern that typically occurs in endgames, particularly when one player has a rook and a king against a lone king. The idea is to use the rook to cut off the opposing king's escape routes while systematically pushing the king towards a corner of the board, ultimately delivering checkmate. Here’s how to execute a laddermate effectively: Steps to Execute Laddermate Positioning the Rook: Place your rook one rank (row) or file (column) away from the opponent's king. This limits the movement of the opponent’s king. For example, if your opponent's king is on e5, place your rook on e6 or c5, cutting off its escape. Forcing the King Back: Move your king closer to the opponent's king to support the rook and force the opposing king back towards the edge of the board. Always keep your rook safe from being captured while maintaining its blockade. Creating a Ladder: As the opposing king moves back, slide your rook up and down the ranks (or files) to maintain the blockade. Each time you move your king closer, reposition the rook to continue restricting the opposing king's movements. Driving the King to a Corner: Continue this process until the opponent's king is pushed to one of the corners of the board (usually a8 or h8). Ensure that your rook always remains one step ahead, cutting off escape routes. Delivering Checkmate: Once the opposing king is trapped in the corner, place your rook on the rank or file adjacent to the king to deliver checkmate. For example, if the opposing king is on h8, place your rook on g8. The opposing king has no legal moves and is in check, resulting in checkmate. Example of Laddermate Here is a simple visual representation of how a laddermate might look: In this position, the white king is safely supporting the rook on h8, preventing the black king from escaping, and delivering checkmate. Conclusion The laddermate is an essential skill in chess endgames, particularly when you have a rook and king against a lone king. Practicing this technique can help you secure victories in situations where your opponent may otherwise escape. Remember to stay patient and methodical, ensuring that your rook effectively restricts the opposing king's movements until you can deliver checkmate!
