    Yes, thank you. I have been trying to install ubuntu on a RAID 0 array. This is the BEST guide for that process. Nice work.

    Thanks for this. Was planning on using hardware RAID 1 on the motherboard but after messing with it for a long time discovered not only is the driver for AMD RAID on Ubuntu hard to find but it also doesn't support NVME drives on X570. Someone told me to use software RAID 1 you need 4 drives but you proved that to not be the case.

    Ok, I used this to do this initially (about 6 months ago or so) and it worked great, thanks!
    That said, unfortunately, I had one of my drives fail, how do I recreate the first part of the second drive (the part about creating the boot partition on drive 2) so that it can boot to either drive?
    (FYI, these are NVMe drives)

    I did all the steps exactly as you did, but it doesn't show me any active devices at all. They're just not listed and "RAID Level '1 (mirrored)' requires at least 2 active devices" is screened.
    Does anyone know why that is?

      Had the same problem. When you go down to the list, where the devices should be, you can see that this list has entries. I think its buggy, you have to go trough them to check the right size to locate your disks

    The best video I´ve seen on how to create a mirror, I wonder why this can´t be done with the UI installer, I tested this in virtualbox and it worked great but on real hardware it didn´t work, I guess that the problem is because both SSDs are different models, exactly same size and brand but one is a SATA SSD and the other one is an M.2:... Do you know anything on this limitation?

    • @thatlinuxdude6972

      Sorry for the late reply! There should not be specific limitations on this. I've done many installations with a mix of SATA/SSD or NVMe(M2). What part of the installation is not working?

      @@thatlinuxdude6972 Hi. On minute 2.28 when you add another boot device, it only adds the fist one but not the second one. I did it on a small rack mounted Ryzen 9, I send it to the manufacturer for guaranty for other reasons but once I get it back I plan to try it with Ubuntu 23.10 and see.

    • @thatlinuxdude6972

      Hi, sorry for the late reply! No extra actions should be needed. But might be depending on the hardware. Have you tried reinstalling grub on the second device? grub-install /dev/sdb or the name of second disk.

    • @thatlinuxdude6972

      Hi there, if you need to change drives from raid you can use these commands.
      mdadm --fail /dev/md0 /dev/sdb2 (This is to mark a drive as failed)
      mdadm --remove /dev/m0 /dev/sdb2 (This to remove the drive from the raid set)
      fdisk -d /dev/sda | fdisk /dev/sdb (This is to create exact partition setup on the new sdb drive)
      mdadm --add /dev/md0 /dev/sdb2
      Just let u me know if you have questions!

    This doesn't work on actual UEFI hardware. You can't select more than one boot disk in UEFI...

    • @rabinovitch4629

    • @Daireishi

      @@rabinovitch4629 I figured it out, you create secondary boot partitions on each RAID member, it'll configure GRUB2 to update those as well.

      @@rabinovitch4629 I have not tried booting without RAID1 (complete or degraded). But I assume if you correctly specify source devices using UUID etc. without RAID then GRUB will know what to do. Probably /etc/fstab would have to be modified in advance. Somehow swap partition was skipped in the example?

    • @thatlinuxdude6972

      In Ubuntu 22 swap is created using a swapfile instead of a partition. This makes it much more scalable, you can change the size of swap any time you want. After an installation such as above you can use the below to check the swap size:
      swapon --show
