+Mango mangoson BMW recalled the car in 2002 and fixed the rod bearing issue. 2003 and later had the properly manufactured bearings from new and did not need to be recalled. The reliability issues with the engine are the vanos bolts (bolts are fine, but need to be loctited and torqued to spec to not back out) and the vanos oil pump disk (holes are too big which causes a hammering effect-- a properly sized modified factory pump disk costs $150 post core return. Do those two fixes and the engine is bulletproof. I have 142,000 miles on mine, including >10,000 track miles, 10 winters, and multiple trips to above 8000rpm every day. It's a wonderful, wonderful engine.
The E46 M3 was so great that it never raced with it's original i6 engine. That was thrown out and replaced with the 4.0 V8 which was subsequently used in the E92 followed by the F82 generation. THE M3 of all times is undoubtably the one with the race winning V8 ... the E92 !!!

Have had mine for over 11 years (2004) and will never sell it. Just a total joy to drive and while it can't compare to the HP of my 2014 C63 AMG, the handling and rocket shifts are just awesome.
People make the mistake of buying these cars without having the money to take care of them then they wind up in used car dealerships and people buy them and think m3's are the problem when it's the lack of attention that is.

I love the E46 M3, probably one of my favorite BMW's ever. However, it's a bit peculiar that they talked up the V8 M3 that ran in North American racing, without mentioning that the car's wins were subsequently vacated and the car banned because BMW never made a production version in accordance with series rules.

What color is your CSL? We didn't get it here in the states so I am buying all the OEM CSL parts and changing them out with my E46 M3 parts. It's also my daily :)
Don't forget after the la mans success nfs used the car in most wanted but with a street racing paint job and it introduced the car to the United States in the street racing scene showing the true potential of bmw, few people know that the nfs most wanted car and parts do exist, seen so many crappy youtubers try and fabricate it because it's cheaper but none compare to the real v8 la mans gtr
what they forget to mention is that anytime you take an e46 racing on track the rear subframe rips the floor out and the differential falls to the ground...thanks BMW.
I love the E46 but the exhaust sound is a put off for me, the E36's exhaust tone is much better in my opinion. I get excellent gas mileage in my E36 and it's pretty bulletproof, if I ever want it to go as fast as the E46 I can just supercharge it. I think I'll keep my E36, its superbly balanced and brings a smile to my face every time I drive it. Two beautiful automobiles.
I bought a 2017 m2 with only 6k miles in pristine condition in Laguna blue. Love the car. I have owned many BmW models in the past but will hereon only buy M cars.
Well I have a 2006 e46 320Cd, nowhere near as spectacular as M3 but looks nearly the same and it's my everyday city car. I FREAKING LOVE EVERY SECOND I spend with my car, when I park it and walk out, I still turn around and look at it, I love it, it's absolutely amazing.
You wish 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that s2000 was just slower in every way, seen it even on the streets against the inline 6 e46, the s2000 doesn't stand a chance even performanced, when a e46 hits 3rd gear most of the time it's taillights that get farther away, the e46 has a diverter valve turbo btw that makes the Honda vtec look like a child play thing
I have a 2004 E46 330CI with the ZHP Package. It's definitely nowhere near as fast as the M3 but still a blast to drive. Also, insurance is cheaper, and I do not have to worry about the rear subframe mounting points in the undercarriage cracking.
In a couple of years I will buy a E46 BMW M3 Im einer silber metalische farbe, and then I will just look at it for 10 hours straight. Sweet lord the designers nailed the E46's designlines perfectly.

I think that the environment will not be polluted by the new fuel oil found. If that happens, the three paddles will continue, but the problem is environmental pollution from engine oil
