Congrats! Somehow I feel you route at 5:26 is not correct, the summit should be the second peak on the left to the end of your red line summit

Tony, I think you're absolutely right.
From that angle, the route goes slightly left behind the large gendarme. Oops!
I'm going to pin your comment. Thank you for catching that!

Congrats on your finish. I just wanted to say your video of North Palisade helped me immensely. Your series is by far the best video documentation of the CA 14ers I've come across.

Love North Pal, but please do not imitate the free solo up the chimney route out of the U Notch.
I did most of my 14ers in the 90s, and would have died and gone to heaven for videos like these. We scratched and clawed for any visuals whatsoever of routes.

Your film footage at around 7:00 is an incised hydro thermal vent. The red is rusted iron, the yellow is sulfur, some of the white is crumbling bull quartz. Quartz when it presents as crumbly is suggestive of having contained vug chambers, which increases the likelihood of gold. Together, all these are strong indicators of silver and gold. If you find areas where the trail of the vent moves latterly and not straight up and down, especially where the rock is broken apart, those are areas that should be metal detected for precious metals.

Back in August of 2002, I crew for Jack McBroom when he set the record for climbing all 15 of California's 14er's. He said, the Middle Palisade was the most difficult because it is so far back in, but mainly because Jack climbed the west side, not the east glacier side. In 1993, my 16 year old son and I, along with McBroom, climbed the glacier side. We started at 5am from the parking lot and returned at midnight. We were totally exhausted. On the way down, my son did slow us down quite a bit. IMO...it's best to make a two day trip out of it. Camp at Brainerd Lake. Finger Lake is a bit exposed and no fire wood or fish.

Thanks for sharing till the end, I can imagine it being an emotional finish. So far, I don't think there is a better peak to finish off the 14ers

Amazing video! I have watched all of the ascent so far. It definitely looks like it's challenging but didn't look like you came across anything too unreasonable. I'm feeling quite a bit better about doing this next summer. The only thing that kind of concerns me about doing it is the possibility of developing severe AMS, or worse, HAPE or HACE while climbing it, and being forced to go down very quickly.

Congratulations on completing. It's a rush.
The upper left ridgeline that you chose to follow near the top is harder than the central gully. You are pushing class 4 in several places. The center remains class 3. Even though you thought it was cleaner, it is harder.
In the old days, the route off the top of the glacier to the left of red rocks was preferred. But the glacier has melted down so much that the red rocks are better now even if crappier rock. Other videos suggest a route a little more to the left of your line is less trouble, but I have not done it.
    Great videos.

Love your content. A climbing buddy and myself watch all your videos. We are doing Middle Pal. in less than 2 weeks on my birthday 8/28. Your video is the most comprehensive I've seen despite the unusual left ridge. Considering that option after watching. Looks fun AF. Will be my fifth 14'er of the summer and 6th overall. Still may try to squeeze in Sill or split before seasons end. You have done some of the most harebrained gutsy shit I've seen. That Russel to Whitney to Muir traverse was beyond epic! Look forward to more and please stay safe!

Congrats on bagging 4 (so far :D) this season. I hope all goes well during your guys' upcoming climb; wishing you great weather and an amazing birthday. Safe travels as well!
Note - Please take a look at Tony's comment, it should be pinned at the top. Looks like I made a small mistake at 5:26

Heh. Should have watched to the end. You downclimbed what looks like the best route through the red rocks, the white stripe zone.

Congrats! Love your videos. Hey, wanted to mention a new book to you you might find interesting which I just read. "The High Sierra: A Love Story", by Kim Stanley Robinson (came out summer 2022). KSR is a big deal sci fi writer who lives in Davis and has been hiking the Sierras regularly since the 70s. I was reading his book while watching your videos and the two go together very well, as he has long sections discussing his bushwacking routes on various hiking trips. I live in LA and have never been to the Sierras myself (other than a day trip to Manzanar) so your vids gave me a lot of context for what he was talking about. He discusses the history and geology of the Sierras and explains why and how they came to be protected and largely undeveloped. As an example, he has a 10 page chapter on the history of Norman Clyde, who you mention in this video! He also discusses why those rocks are red. I think you'd enjoy the book. Look it up in a bookstore. (I posted a comment like this a few weeks ago on another video I think, but it seems it didn't go through. Sorry if this is a duplication.)

Is is just me, or that look so very dangerous! and I am thiking how is it that you are still even alive?? Or is the camera angle...stressful to watch. I've done 3/15 CA 14'rs, but don't know if this motivates me to do or avoid! Glad you made and congrats. I am liking Langley more and more now, thanks!

I'm not familiar with climbing. Are those colors on the rocks natural, or man made indicators?
