Comparing these two is pretty common thing for people who have read both runs, because Scott said Grant was the one who inspired and motivated Scott to write Batman.
I prefer the Morrison run. Making Grayson Batman, turning Red Hood back into a villain. Plus, the court of owls feels very similar to the black glove. Snyder also kills off Bruce. A lot of Snyder’s run felt very similar to Morrison’s Not to mention Dark Knights Metal hinges on Morrison’s run. But Morrison’s run is very re-readable as oppose to Snyder’s which is hard to re-read. Though the first read through is great. In the end though they’re both great runs but Morrison’s is better from start to finish, I think.

Court of owls, city of owls, and Death of the family are good, after that the run is really bad, Batman endgame is one of the worst Batman stories ever.
I really love Batman R.I.P, but I like Snyder's run more. The Court of Owls and Endgame were the best batman comics to date, and Zero Year was a really well written Batman origin. Snyder's run was grittier and focused on Batman's psychology and his relationship with Joker, Gordon, Alfred and to an extent Dick. Beside from Batman R.I.P, Morrison's run was decent. Batman & Son was not too good, The Black Glove was pretty good except the ending, Batman and Robin was amazing, but its not Bruce Wayne so it kinda "takes points off" (if that makes sense), and Batman Incorporated was odd in my opinion in terms of writing.
Snyder’s The Wake is very much in that weak ending category. It all builds to something, and he tried to get more cerebral and philosophical with the end, but it just doesn’t land.
Without question, I choose Grant Morrison. Not only did they rescue Batman's entire comic history, but they also brought life to his mythos and made Batman a reformed Dark Knight after being a paranoid moron. They just did it all in their run: a prose tale, remarkable characters and a new dynamic duo, along with their own blueprints (esoteric writing and meta comments). They understood Batman like no one has yet as a young boy who trascend his own pain to become a hero. Batman, Incorporated is a personal favorite of mine from their entire run. Not a perfect run, obviously, but it was not only fun, but with the character. Snyder's Batman, though... it was like reading an MCU comic, with excesive spectacle and hollow characters. Snyder was more concerned about making Batman the badass asshole he was turned into when 2000 began. His only redeeming quality was Greg Capullo's artwork.
Both are great, but after Batman Metal, everything fell down so bad with Snyder. I'll stick with Morrison's run, it wasn't perfect but it was enjoyable.
@@myconiusmaximus1022 you probably won't see this 3 months later but I wanna read Morrisons run and have no idea where to start or what order to read them in. Do you know a reading order?
Grant Morrison's Batman is densely layered with content, symbolism, and foreshadowing. And it's very subtle. I still always find details that I've never noticed before. Morrison's run honestly gets better and better every single time you read it. Grant even uplifted Batman to being a very spiritual and enlightened individual, as well as being compassionate. Scott Snyder over-explains everything. His spoon-feeding information to readers is a chore to read. Snyder's Batman is also an unlikable jerk, punching Dick Grayson's tooth out just because.
I prefer Morrison’s run in that Batman absolutely overpowered any beings in his way, men or gods, in a way that’s convincing. I felt that if this is the Batman, then I totally believe he can pull everything off mentioned in the dark knight returns.
I'd recommend Morrisons first, but just because it was published first. That said, if you're new to Batman, I do feel like Snyder's is a better jumping on point.
@@yunglotus1706 Technically, yes. But Snyder built Metal in a way that Morrison's run also leads into Metal. Neither are required reading for Metal, but both runs do add to it. From Metal, Snyder then did the Justice League series, which leads into Dark Nights: Death Metal a few years later.
