Wow, legit that one little alleyway that Chantelle walked down looks so much like this place I've been seeing in my dreams for a couple of years. I've been dreaming that I move to a seaside town with pastel-colored buildings. I thought maybe it was Venice Beach since I used to live in LA and VB sort of looks similar but the dream always feels like a small surfing town. I guess I'll add Capitola to my list of destinations this summer to check out the vibe!
It might be Santa Cruz. All the full timers I know here came to visit and never left. The sociable people, the quiet isolated scenic spots, the seasons visually changing, the ANIMALS AND NATURE, right up against quality goods and health-conscious activities. Big box stores in close range, but family run businesses thrive. It's EXPENSIVE to own a home here, but it's paradise even if you don't.

Love Capitola! We rented the colorful condos on the beach in the 90’s when they were affordable! I think it was 1700 for a month! We did that a couple years when my kids were babies. Wonderful memory
Little bit away from the beach is Gayle's Bakery. It is pretty high quality food as they have a lot more than bakery goods. Some people say it is expensive and it is a little bit more than a normal bakery. That have number ticket system. From the moment we pull a ticket to we finish eating, they've gone through over a 100 numbers. I've also liked the Begonia Festival on Labor Day weekend. There is a row of houses and apartments that back onto the river. there is a path that you can walk between their back yards and their docks. In the dock area during the Saturday of the Begonia Festival, they are building floats that are covered with Begonias. On the Sunday, the floats go down to the river live a floating parade. One year one float had a dinosaur that lowered its head to get under the bridge.
Such a cute colorful lil town!! Lucky lady. Wish cali wasnt a million miles from florida. Bound n chained here for a few more years. THANK YOU FOR TAKING ME ALONG. Only bad thing is people on top of people like cordwood. But thats a beach town i guess. Thats how Daytona is. Love that sandbar beach!! How cool...omg..the pigeons scored!! LOL. That traffic line is crazy!

(Holy cow, you drove right by where I've parked MY minivan, living here in Santa Cruz! Small world!) If you're still nearby, give Salsa's Taco Bar a try on the corner of 17th and Brommer (across from the gas station) They have a FIVE POUND customizable burrito and lots of vegan options. The Venetian Courts are the colorful buildings right on the sand. They are privately owned and lived in, and others are vacation rental. The restaurants /shops are on the left side as she was standing on the bridge looking out on the Bay.

Rio Del Mar is a great place to go and relax away from the all the tourist and expensive places

We used to go to the beach at Capitola when we lived in San Jose. Santa Cruz was closer but I preferred Capitola.

Beach is open to anyone. Hotel runs about $250.00 per night.
