Nice Build Chris! I started building one of these like 4 years ago and bailed on it for no apparent reason but I have the pieces still kicking around my shop. Your Moxon Vise May have me feeling inspired to restart that project again!
That wood is very nice looking, but I never liked the moxon vice because of the two studs sticking out where your work! The handle should be pinned to the screw similar to a regular vice. Also, a moxon vise is just anotherfixturing device and has its pros and cons!!
Next time, use a piece of scrap wood place on the stud be for betting with your mallett! I'm sure I saw some damage on your mallet with the stunt! More dumbing down, showing the world more American woodworking techniques on "how not to use a wooden mallett!" I'm sure they are shaking thier head of laughing at the stupidity like I did!😢😂😢😂
Hand tools are way harder than this. Trust me. And I went simpler than Mike Coffey. And my machinery wasn’t expensive. A sawstop is only a hair over $4,000.
Mind blowing. I always used the tools I have to make things I saw in a TH-cam video. I never knew that you have to use the exact tools that were used in the video.
There are several other creators making Moxon vuces in various forms and shapes. Each creator does a pretty darn good job except for 1 glaring issue that none of them have addressed. That issue is the method of how the entire vice/workbench is clamped down to the workbench itself. All of them use some type of clamp. While the clamps are 💯 effective, the clamps take away from the overall looks of the vice/bench. Can you think of another way to secure the vice to a workstation without using the ugly clamps, but still able to make the vice/bench removable? I was thinking of adding a horizontal vice at the bottom of the bench that would be usedto secure the Moxon to it. Or drill through holes through the front legs and insert bolts that would then go through predrilled holes in a workstation. The aft support could have holes that dowels could be inserted and then placed into holes in a workstation.
I like your thinking for sure. I wanted something quick and easy to attach to any bench in my shop so it needed to be universal. If I had a dedicated space on my nice bench I would probably integrate clamping into the main bench dog holes or something.
I winced every time you smacked that bolt with you’re mallet 😂 you’re denting it!
You’d be amazed how well that mallet is holding up. Better than most.
Love the choice of wood very nice finish. Thanks for sharing your expertise mistakes and all!!

Thanks Preston. I’d like to see your take on a vise like this.
Really like how it turned out! Now I wanna make one.
I found your channel as I’m looking to build a vice. Thought I’d drop a comment. Thanks.
@@LivingTheLifeRetired Thanks. Hopefully you get some good ideas for your own.
i was waiting for someone to figure out the vice might press it. :-)
Yo wtf. Shots fired 😂
Watch the whole video. Might be an apology in there somewhere
Great video. I’ve been looking for a portable vise to make. I’m totally borrowing your design
Awesome. It’s pretty heavy for its size so should be light enough to carry but stout enough to chisel and plane on. Good luck!
Thank you sir. Please keep it much shotter next time
.🎉
@@DraganIlich-r1s absolutely. Anything for you.
Nice job!
Thanks!
I like it! Should have got some of that Skan crubber tho 😊.
Thank you. Well done.
Nice build! Love the ambrosia…
Where have I seen that COWDOG AF shirt before?
Thanks! That ambrosia maple stole the show.
Do you have a preference between the screws hidden in the body of the vice or have them extended outward the way you have them?
I’m not sure these are designed to go inward but I see what you’re saying. I haven’t caught my shirt or wrist on them yet so they seem to be fine.

Chisel, trying to pick out some logs for your Craigslist order from us.
Red maple 🍁, red oak, ?
Oh,,, started maple..
Chris not chisel 😂

Two words… Cow Dog AF.

CowDOG and Calavera FTW

That mallet is kind of my beater mallet. Funny enough, it finally broke this week. Nothing a little glue won’t fix.
Your going to simplify things? You have a shop full of expensive heavy duty machinery. Do you remember hand tools?

You might consider the tso benchdog that attaches two dogholed boards with a hex wrench
How much does your finished vice weigh?

Not sure what that is. Send me a link on IG maybe. But it’s too late now. 😂👍👍
