      most base information of networking won't change!
      when you have strong base, you can adopt with new technology much more faster!

      @@SASiteNet so this is if the server has it's own ip how do I do this for dhcp's on a router? Should I just make a loopback interface for the router and use that one instead?

    Well, you just saved me ALOT of time. Im doing one of my last projects before finishing my education as an IT Supporter, and eventhough cisco isnt a big part of my job. I still have to have some knowledge of what going on behind the scene. Thank you very much for this! :)

      Merci Monsieur for your feedback!
      Great to hear it, the networking concept is the same for all brands, the only difference is on the commands!

    THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was a bit confused as to why the PCs I had on different VLANs to the one of the DHCP server were not getting assigned an IP address and it was because of not having added the ip helper-address command on the core switch. Thank you seriously.

  • @HEETSEEKAH
    @HEETSEEKAH 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very interesting. So you don't have to add the ip address helper command on all your access switches, just your Core/Distro switches (which ever has the gateway IP address for the VLAN). Very interesting. Glad I found this video since I've been troubleshooting this issue for a bit now. Going to review configs on our distro switches. Very appreciative of you creating and sharing this. Thank you.

      @@SASiteNet got it, just to confirm so DHCP listens to the requests coming from the that specific VLAN IP address side which is ALREADY in the defined pool and based on that give out the net available IP out?

    • @SASiteNet
      @SASiteNet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@payambakhshi1498 that's correct!
      with this config, we just need one DHCP server with multiple pools for each VLAN.

    Do I need to use an ip helper address for multiple vlans for an smtp server?

    • @SASiteNet
      @SASiteNet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In general you use the IP-Helper to give IP address to your client from a centralize server.

    I think there is a problem with intervlan routing.I exactly configured just like you did but my ping was not answered.

    • @SASiteNet
      @SASiteNet  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sinan Çuhadar No worry, just double check your VLAN, Interface VLAN, Interface mode (Trunk/Access) and IP-Helper configuration.
      Minor mistake hides somewhere, just go through "show run" and use command like "show ip interface brief" to find it.

    • @sinancuhadar6197
      @sinancuhadar6197 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +SASiteNet those are ok.I found the problem.I issued "ip routing" command on layer 3 switch and my ping is answered now.

    If I wanted to add additional Server to Switch0 such as a Web Server etc. and communicate with the new server from the client machines, how could I do that? Thanks :)

    • @SASiteNet
      @SASiteNet  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just connect new server
      Set the connected interface as ACCESS VLAN 10 on Switch 0
      Assign IP address for server in VLAN 10 segment: e.g. 10.10.0.11 /24
      Make sure set Gateway for your server
      Make sure Inter-VLAN routing is enable (ip routing in switch0)
      and you will able to ping the server from clients!

    Hey ! I directly connected a DHCP server with a multi-layer switch without using a switch in between... I did every necessary step but still getting message DHCP failed APIP is being used...... kindly help me out, please

    • @SASiteNet
      @SASiteNet  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No worry, troubleshooting is fun part of networking!
      Follow the check list:
      1- Trunk: make sure the Trunk is set between switches and allow all VLANs
      2- SVI: make sure Interface VLANs are up and running in core switch
      3- IP Helper command: make sure IP Helper is set under Interface VLANs.
      4- Access: make sure interfaces are connected to PCs are configure as Access
      If you follow the tutorial exactly, the DHCP should work.
      For sure something missing somewhere... check all configs.
      Good lick and update us.

      Is your question related to this tutorial in Packet Tracer?

  • @Word_life90
    @Word_life90 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    why ip routing command was not used ?

    • @SASiteNet
      @SASiteNet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      by default in Cisco packettracer's device (and in most physical devices) the IP routing feature is off by default.
      If you want to enable the IP routing feature you need ip routing command.

    well , if replace core switch to router how can config?
    ..

    • @SASiteNet
      @SASiteNet  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In router you can configure IP Helper Address under interface (instead of VLAN interface)
      For example:
      Conf t
      int fa 0/1
      ip helper-address X.X.X.X
      Hope this is helpful
