    Thanks brother, I believe the Packet Tracer is free all you need to do is search for it. Udemy has nothing to do with it. If you can find it I can always setup Drop Box or an FTP for everyone to download it. I going to see if I can make it available as link as part of my lecture. thanks again for the great comment.

    Hi laz great video! One question do you think wol is possible between server vlan (dhcp, dns, ad...) to computers vlans.. I need to wake up my computers from the server which is always turned on and already configured with two dhcp scopes (2 vlans 1 for teachers 1 for pupils).. Our network core is a level 3 cisco switch... As wol doesn't traverse routers even if ip-helpers allow broadcast from computers to dhcp vlan server it doesn't allow wake on lan from vlan server... I thought about using a trunk between but if so no ip-helper will be configurable in that trunk I guess... I hope I was clear enough to hope having an answer from you... Thanks a lot for your help dude

    Hello Laz, just want to say excellent job with the tutorial, you made it very easy to understand. I just have one question, I have a SG300 switch which can do inter VLAN routing and am using a Asus-68U wireless router to do my wired and wireless routing on my home network. I'm trying to setup a lab that contains VLANS and want them to have access to the internet. How can I accomplish this without an actual router since i cannot add subinterfaces to the Asus-68U wireless router.

  • @scott2495

    I came here due to connectivity errors during gameplay in Leauge Of Legends, I get disconnected every 5 minutes or so for about 10-20 seconds from my internet entirely and about 40 seconds from the game. I read up a post of the Boards of league of leagues submitted by the Companies Techs and they say Disabling IP Helper helps. So i did, and guess what. It is no longer disconnecting me from that, but it is giving me 10 second lag spikes in every other game. How do i go about this? plz help.

    Hey Guys, I have a situation where I have a switchport that is on vlan 10. So all devices that are connected to that port are on that subnet. Howver we have just installed some ip cameras in our yard that are on a different subnet , subnet 192. Two of these cameras are connected to the network that is on vlan 10. How can I route the traffic on these 192 cameras to vlan192? Sorry if this is not the right place for this question, but can you please point me in the right direction?

    COULD YOU….
    Given that it's the same IP Helper address for every subnet...
    Configure your IP Helper on the INTERFACE instead of on every SUB-INTERFACE !?

  • @thenetworkingdoctors
    @thenetworkingdoctors  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You are correct, you can setup the router as the DHCP server and it would simplify things. This was a lab demostrating the 'IP helper-address" withing a VLAN enviroment. But take care on which router you would setup the DHCP service, make sure is not a router handling lots of traffic or is already burdened with other services.

    Why not assign VLAN IPs on the core switch and turn Fa0/24 into "no switchport" with IP for communication with a router? Wouldn't that improve vlan-to-vlan communication in case there is a lot of vlan-to-vlan traffic, and your router-core switch link doesn't become a bottleneck? Unless core isn't Layer 3 capable in any way.

    • @phenomanII
      @phenomanII 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if this will still be helpful, but here I go anyways.
      His TFTP and DHCP servers are in fa0/1 and 0/2. If you look closely you'll be able to see it. There is no interface 25 on the switch since it only has 24 of them. And the 23 interface is shown on screen, but only because the switch on Vlan50 is connected to it.

    I connect a router with a switch, and that switch with an other switch (so R-S-S). And I have on switch one Vlan10 and 20 and on switch two vlan 30 and 40. I configure the trunk link between R-S and S-S with trunk allowed 10,20,30,40. And I do the encapsulation and everything. Plus my router acts as a DHCP . My hosts in vlan 30 and 40 do not receive an IP as long as I didn't issue the "int vlan 30" and "'int vlan 40" command on switch one. What is the reason for this? Can you explain this? Or is this explained in a video somwhere?

    @alex yu, my first question would be is this on the same switch or do you have multiple switches with multiple vlans?
    my sencond questions is can you ping other vlans?
    If you can't ping other vlans, my third question is did you trunk your ports?
    Based on your question I can only deduce that your tagged vlans are trying to get accross a non-trunking port.

    ip helper address converts the DHCP client BROADCAST REQUEST to a unicast address to the target dhcp server so the DHCP client broadcast address can travel through a routed network.
    Also FYI, ip helper address WAS actually build to help relay 8 types of applications BOOTP, and TFTP , just these days many of the 8 types of applications are seldom used any more except DHCP.
    most current CCNA materials say ip help address is for DHCP ; true or imcomplete comment.
