    I finally feel justified for saving all those random scraps of paper- I have full bins of scrap nonsense; old calendars, journals, planners, magazines, clothing tags- (if they were too cute to toss out), and all kinds of randomly found paper scraps- and this is the perfect way to start using all of it! I can't wait to start my own "junk journal!"

    Johanna, this is exactly what I needed to watch! I’ve been struggling with collage which sounds silly to me. I think way too much about what to use, colors, texture, etc. I then get frustrated and then it isn’t fun. Thank you for sharing your process. I would really enjoy this type of series where you share tips and ideas. I so appreciate the inspiration 😊

    It helps to have bags of a variety of scraps. Look around the house; old sheet music books, thank you/ bday cards, gift wrap, newspaper roll ends make the perfect pages to dye.

    Just got into collaging so this was sooo helpful! Especially about not overthinking and the technique of layers. I put something down and don't want to "mess it up" but it's boring without layers so love you explaining the process of how to do that!

    I just had a light bulb moment, maybe you and other people more familiar than I too junk journals have thought if this... So I've had a little golden book and all the papers and things I have collected for my 1st and only grandchild, it was meant to be done on her bday(August3rd) !
    I watch her 8 hours a day and have got stuck after putting the new spine in, then fabric. So as I was watching you I realized collage work in a journal is like writing a book in reverse. Less pressure and a random order with the pages that will one day be done be done. It got me thinking, that's how I should approach it.
    Do a spread a day or week and no order and assemble when ever. I literally took months to get the nerve to cut open this LGB and I am so stuck. I have her hospital bracelets ,her 1st flower, feet print and I have journaled daily about milestones. I saved things and I finally realized, I have time she can't read it and I am letting go of this pressure.
    So Sorry for the rambling but after hundreds of videos I just realized that this is like writing.. but it is a collage story, and kind of like later we will add in the written words or photos. I'm hoping this makes sense. Thanks as always

    Collage is perfect for people like us! I feel like a junk journal is one huge collage, an assemblage of color, pattern, texture, graphics, font, etc! I recommend Andrea D'Aquino and her book Once Upon a Piece of Paper, Claire Youngs and her book Creative Collage and of course Claudine Helmut and her Collage Discovery books. I like Instagram accounts for Lucie Duclos and Tracey English!!!!!

    I'm starting to be more and more attracted to junk journals. About to get a new TN and want somehow making the inserts to be more junk looking 🙂
    My only problem is that I always need to use stuff that fit and match together when it comes to paper patterns and colors. But the junk style is about difference and it doesn't have to be perfect, this is going to be such an challenge for me 😊 Do you have any good tips for me to let go of the fact that the crafts doesn't have to match and I can over come that limit?

    • @carried9130
      @carried9130 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jeanette I also think that junk journals are about what you want them to be. If you enjoy matching colors or patterns, that's your taste and you can make your journal any way you want. I have learned a lot from Johanna and her style, but I also can't put things together the same way she does at times. And those times I do what my taste enjoys. It takes time to put these techniques to use in your own work, and the more you do it, the more fun it is.
      I struggle with collage because I like things a certain way, but I'm learning to do it my way so I'm happy with the way the page looks.

    • @creativewithjia
      @creativewithjia 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carried9130 You are so right. It's a learning thing and I just have to create and see what my style is and just go with the things I like and think is pretty. And keep watching and find inspiration 👍

    That was an excellent video to share. I am one to grab papers and stick them down without planning. I never think to use my washi tape either and that looks so nice. I’m looking forward to how you do the pockets. I even have trouble doing “tip ins”, so if you could touch on that. I’m sure there are others who would benefit from that also!

    Absolutely adore this video Johanna ... all your videos are amazing and full of helpful advice ... I really love this Tips and Tricks series you certainly have the “eye” for being able to put things together and make it look amazing, where as I would take hours to make a page look only half as good as this, I overthink things too much lol
    I also want to say in all the years I have been a subscriber to your channel I have never been fortunate enough to be able to buy anything from your etsy ... not for want of trying though, I set numerous reminder alarms but everything is always gone 😢 ... so with the wonderful support Juni is is giving you I am hoping to be able to win your Zine in her giveaway. I would love you to do more of the printed copies in your chop as I dont have a printer and so cannot purchase the downloadables. Your work is amazing 😍
