Hi Dr Janelle, Just re-watched this great video. What's a good dose for someone who gets next to zero sun exposure? I no longer think the doctor's prescription (50,000 IU per fortnight) is enough. I get a rash from the sun, so can't get my skin in it more than a few minutes without sunblock. Also, can I double dose a while to quickly bring up my levels?
Just got tested recently and my vitamin d was at 13.11 but I live in Fiji which is one of the hottest place in the Pacific. Shockingly my GP had no idea about this vitamin d deficiency and didn't even know what to prescribe 😏😏..after so many online search and blood test I took a vitamin d test which cost me $135 ..ikr no wonder people die due to inadequate medical assistance in fiji... really need your assistance esp on my supplements and what to help boost my vitamin d asap THANK U😍😍😍
Thanks for the video. My Vit D, 25(OH)D levels over recent years has been between 60 and 80 nmol/L. My GP says that's ok, but it is at the lower end of the lab's reference range of 51-140. I get to sleep very quickly but I wake often and early. I've tried Vit D supplements many times and it seems to make sleep even worse. I'm 69yo, in Sydney, Australia, but I don't get much sun exposure.
I haven't tried Vit D at any time other than with breakfast. Magnesium, in any form, at any time of day, also disturbs my sleep, as does any form of folate. Anyhow, I'll try Vit D again. Thanks,
I'd suggest that you just start with very low levels of supplements. It's possible that you are just very sensitive to them. Sometimes this can be due to poor detoxification. Have you tried Magnesium glycinate? It's the most calming form of magnesium and the glycine also supports liver function and mental health. Theoretically most of the other forms of magnesium can ramp up mitochondrial (energy) function, and maybe this could impact sleep. Hope these suggestions may help.
Could your program help me while I come off my antidepressants? Wellbrutrin and Lexapro for 5 years. I feel like they haven't solved the problem but instead have made me a slave to daily drugs. I hate it. I want out but I don't know how to heal.
Hi Brandi. Yes the course is designed to help people off their antidepressants if that's their aim. The course helps you find out where your body is out of balance and gives it what it needs. This not only helps improve mood and lower anxiety but makes it easier to come off antidepressants. Module 6 discusses how to come off antidepressants safely. Check out www.drjanellesinclair.com/ecourse. I look forward to connecting with you inside the course and during the live question and answer sessions.
Hi Dr Janelle, my Vit D Level tested , its low at 16.7 ng/mL. I have anxiety depression. Saw review and some article abt taking combination of Vit D3 K2. For this condition, which one is better, Vit D3 alone or with K2 ? And which form better : liquid form, soft gel or capsule ?
Yes I do often recommend taking vitamin d with K2. I usually recommend liquid as it's much easier here in NZ to take larger doses that way (eg 5 drops versus 5 capsules). We can't get high dose vitamin d supplements very easily here.
Dr. Sinclair, have you ever heard of anyone experiencing anxiety after using vitamin D. I put a 50 MCG soft shell into water and took some sips out of it after it dissolved. I did this because I think I had some anxiety in the past after taking the three from like a liquid droplet. I decided to try it again. At first there was a kind of boost in energy and motivation but then I'm feeling some anxiety come over me. Any thoughts ?
@@DrJanelleSinclair So it could be a case of not absorbing the Vitamin D properly and that somehow manifests in anxiety. Thats interesting. Sidenote, I have fatty liver issues. I will add Magnesium asap. See ifthat helps
Vitamin D deficiency has been clearly and very significantly associated with suicidal attempts, with one excellent scientific study finding well over half of those attempting suicide to be significantly deficient in Vitamin D. Therefore, given the high prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency globally, (as well as given the proven benefits of proper Vitamin D levels in protecting against COVID-19), all people with serious symptoms of depression (and especially suicidal ideation) should immediately seek a Vitamin D level check from their medical doctor. Moreover, proper Vitamin D treatment does not carry with it the kind of serious side effects of psychiatric drugs. Accordinly, given the high prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency globally, I cannot rule out that Vitamin D deficiency is a major undiagnosed cause of psychiatric symptoms and just one of many reasons, in addition to psychiatric iatrogenesis, that we can expect the World Health Organization's prediction that mental illness will soon be the number one international disease burden, to be a correct prediction. I think Dr Dray (famous youtuber dermatologist) is awesome, but I think she is wrong on applying sun screen all. the. time. Like you say, sun exposure is a good thing. Obviously not to the point of getting burnt, but you work up to it. I would rather have a nice glow than look like a ghost, that's unnatural. And vitamin D actually protects people from the more aggressive skin cancers.
Great insights, Dr Janelle! Who would have thought that with all this sun, we could have low Vit D? I heard any SPF over 8 prevents vit D synthesis in the skin. Do you know if that's true?
Hi Vivien. What a fabulous question! Yes there are studies showing that sunscreen stops vitamin D production in the skin. The research hasn't to date shown that under a controlled trial that sunscreen use decreases blood vitamin D levels. The research is pretty new as far as I can tell, so nothing is conclusive yet. I haven't done an exhaustive look at the research. However there are observational studies to say that those using sunscreen have lower vitamin D. So sunscreen use is definitely a risk factor for vitamin D deficiency. I'm not advocating for no sunscreen use, just that people need to know that if they use sunscreen that they could be at risk of a deficiency. Did you want to see the research?
@@DrJanelleSinclair Only if you have time! Those using sunscreen may also be the ones who are cautious enough to spend less time in the sun, so it may just be the lesser sun exposure and not purely using sunscreen that gives them lower vit D?

Shockingly my GP had no idea about this vitamin d deficiency and didn't even know what to prescribe 😏😏..after so many online search and blood test I took a vitamin d test which cost me $135 ..ikr no wonder people die due to inadequate medical assistance in fiji... really need your assistance esp on my supplements and what to help boost my vitamin d asap
THANK U😍😍😍

😏
Thanks for the video. My Vit D, 25(OH)D levels over recent years has been between 60 and 80 nmol/L. My GP says that's ok, but it is at the lower end of the lab's reference range of 51-140.
I get to sleep very quickly but I wake often and early. I've tried Vit D supplements many times and it seems to make sleep even worse.
I'm 69yo, in Sydney, Australia, but I don't get much sun exposure.
Have you tried taking magnesium alongside the vitamin D? And does the time of day that you take the vitamin D effect your sleep?
We only got 3 days of summer in Dunedin this year...
Also, what is the best way to get around vitamin D receptor deficiency? Are bigger doses or more frequent smaller doses better? Many thanks :-)
Why do you not give the dosage in mg's instead of iu's?
In the majority of the world vitamin D dosages are expressed as IU.
Very nice sir god bless you
What is the name of the vit d test?
Hello . thanks for this video . I am at 34ng .. Is this too low ?
How much vitamin d3 should I take for anxiety and which brand....?
Hi Dr Janelle, my Vit D Level tested , its low at 16.7 ng/mL. I have anxiety depression. Saw review and some article abt taking combination of Vit D3 K2. For this condition, which one is better, Vit D3 alone or with K2 ? And which form better : liquid form, soft gel or capsule ?
Yes I do often recommend taking vitamin d with K2. I usually recommend liquid as it's much easier here in NZ to take larger doses that way (eg 5 drops versus 5 capsules). We can't get high dose vitamin d supplements very easily here.
I have some links in the description to some good products
Thanks Dr Janelle 😊
Many people claim that you need magnesium to balance vitamin D properly. If you have anxiety that's probably the first supplement I'd recommend.
@@DrJanelleSinclair So it could be a case of not absorbing the Vitamin D properly and that somehow manifests in anxiety. Thats interesting. Sidenote, I have fatty liver issues. I will add Magnesium asap. See ifthat helps
@@thomaspham5477 did it?
@@thomaspham5477 if i were you i would add calcium , the work together , high doses of vit d increases dopamine wich increases anxiety

But vitamin D increase Clacium level in our body which is harmful for our heart. cause irregular and first heart beat (palpitations) and cause kidney stone for longterm uses.
@@Skybluewindcool Of course Vitamin D supplementation should be taken with Vitamin K2 to move Calcium out of blood where it can cause problems to where it belongs especially into bones which can prevent weak bones especially in post menopausal women.
I have a test result showing I have low vitamin D levels. I was recommended to take vitamin D3 5000mg. I took vitamin D3 1000mg and in a few minutes from taking it I was dizzy like my blood sugar was low. I stopped taking it and have been trying to get more sunlight, eat fish. I have trouble with dairy and eggs so that doesn't help.
How can I avoid being dizzy when taking vitamin D3, especially during the winter?
Use cofactors , calcium magnesium vit a , zinc
Dear Dr. Jannelle, my bloodlevels are 19 ng/ml , im supplementing 5.000 iu/d but whenever i take a supplement my anxiety spikes next days, And when i stop it improves somehow. Is this common and do i need to add K2 and/or magnesium?
Thanks alot!!!
Perhaps just start with 1000IU per day and see if you tolerate that. 5000iu is quite a high dose. You may be able to increase the dose once your body has adjusted to the vitamin d
@@DrJanelleSinclair hi would the 1000 per day help with muscle weakness
@@fz2884 muscle pain and fatigue is caused by vitamin D deficiency, so I think it would help with muscle weakness. Don't guess how much vitamin D you need, get your vitamin D levels tested

I'll get my levels checked. In one of your videos I'm sure you talked about supplementing for eczema and I can't remember what video it was. I've only got eczema in one ear and the steroid cream doesn't cure it. It can get itchy and flares up.
Omega 3 and zinc deficiency can contribute to eczema.
I am tested a year ago, and was unreadable, that low. I am white, but in wheelchair and very little outside. I got oil capsules, but its still too low. I have gastropareses (and HEDS, and other issues). I inject b12 weekly since 9 years, due antibodies...

My vitamin d is 10. My doctor gave me 6 lacs iu intramuscular injection and it's been 20 days. There is no improvement in fatigue and dizziness. Kindly tell me what further I should do. My age is 31. I got to know after series of tests in hospital after 45 days that I'm vitamin d deficient. And my blood pressure was also high since then.
I'd suggest that you ask for a follow-up vitamin D test to ensure your levels have increased. If they haven't ask for another injection or take daily vitamin D3 supplements.

Hi again, one more question; How long does it take for vitamin D to take effect for mood and anxiety?
It seems that some weeks are needed, but you certainly will feel some changes in less than 2 months.
I spent my whole life indoors, regret aside, I am trying to change that and trying to experiment.

Hi Mary. You can go to labtests in Auckland (and Pathlab in the Waikato) for vitamin D testing. Just stop the supplements for a couple of days prior to the blood test. I'm not seeing clients anymore, so that I can concentrate on creating TH-cam videos and other educational resources. I want to make this information more accessible for a larger amount of people. Are there any topics that you would like me to create videos on? I'm glad that you've found them helpful. J
Tnxs - yes on fatty acids - who can't take omega 3s and why - why D3 and K2 are important for mineral absorption - and Zinc copper ratio plus how to get zinc to absorb in those who can't tolerate B vitamins - hmmm that would be some nice topics - Tnxs for your TH-cam@@DrJanelleSinclair

Hi Dr Janelle, I was taking 50,000iu vit d per week for 6 weeks which made me feel a bit better (levels were at 15ng). Now I'm taking 800iu a day supplements and my knees and lower back hurt, and the depression and weird thoughts have got much worst, I'm hoping all these symptoms are because I've dropped drastically in vit d, and 50,000iu seems so much to me.. Any advice on what's going on? Many thanks
2000 iu is a maintenance dose. 3000-5000iu per day is more of a treatment dose. Consider that for another 6 weeks and then I suggest you retest your levels to ensure they've come up adequately.
