    Have you ever taken Omega 3 fish oil to try to treat your depression? Was it successful? Or do you think you may have made some of the mistakes that I've mentioned in this video?

      @Debbie Gill absolutely! Would love you to share. I personally think alot of what I create is applicable to PMDD. If people are interested in PMDD they might like to rule out vitamin D deficiency and zinc deficiency (I have videos on those). Making sure your blood sugars are balanced would be helpful too I think.

      I've used it and was advised by my doctor to stop it. the negative effects of fish oil is often overlooked mainly because there is not much discussion about it. but as recovering nicotine addict that has smoked 2 packs a day , after 3 weeks of interrupted sleep that worsen from every 4 hour waking up at night to every 1 hour at night.
      A day i forgot to take it saved my life. I thought that fish oil would aid me in dealing with the withdrawal symptoms of my addiction turns out it did not. i was fortunate to be reffered to a Dr that is a substance abuse expert. on my 2nd visit him i told him i forgot to take my fishoil and he asked me why the hell am I taking fish oil ? and i said my reasons. then he followed by any chance are there any food sources im eating that is high on Omega 3 fatty acids and i said yes as my tuna . he told to me stop taking fish oil . to cut the story short after several EEGs turns out fish oil worsens my symptoms regardless of what type of omega3 is involved.

      @@faosparkNeo unfortunately not everyone reacts to supplements the same. It's best to monitor any changes in your symptoms (such as poor sleep) when starting new supplements. Glad you found a good practitioner to work with.

      @Klaus Sperger oh they do man and they do it a lot because of the anxiety component of withdrawal. that is why they specify what type omega 3 we need to consume. however there are people like me who naturally has high acertycholine in the body. which will have a reverse effect of fish oil instead of going relaxed we would be awake. regardless if you are in withdrawal or not

    Yes,I was released from terrible depression, hopelessly complaining and crying to children, I'm 60yrs.
    I took wellman plus Omega 3 suddenly i regained myself confidence.

    After a month of omega 3 for anxiety depression treatment i can say for sure that it works for me. Depression 70-80% better anxiety 50-60% i am very thank full for your help throu this video

    I eat a can of sardines every day that contains 1300mg of natural omega 3. 1 can contains 24 grams of protein also as well as healthy fat. Thanks for your videos!

    Started taking fish oil about 3 months back. Used to have brain fog ,low mood and slight anxiety. Start noticing good mood and low anxiety recently , I asked myself what was I doing differently this past months and connected the dot to fish oil. I was taking triple strength fish oil with high EPA. When I start researching on fish oil benefit , then realise the benefit Of fish oil with high EPA

      @@withlovemom8749 there are many good ones out there, Carson’s etc. In my personal opinion the best brand is Nordic Naturals. I’ve used it for almost 6 months now it’s been a lifesaver. Nordic naturals is the most trusted, safest, purest and no fish burps as well. I did extensive research before buying so I’d recommend the Nordic brand

    It's unbelievable how just the addition of an omega 3 fish oil in my diet has relived me of the severe anxiety I've had for years.
    But the one problem I keep facing is that a lot of these supplements are already rancid when bought.And I believe whenever I've consumed spoilt fish oil,it actually worsened my symptoms and caused other problems too.

      Yes finding a good brand is important, if you have fish burps it’s no good. I don’t know the brand but there are some good liquid forms i think huberman talks about it on youtube

    Yes it worked for me fantastically! About 18 months in now, high strength Omega 3 along with Vit D ... with a good multi vit alongside ... I was amazed after about 2 months, I felt alive again... truly amazing that you can almost reset your own body with some simple steps... 🙏

      @Gumbo Clay according to the video its 2,250mg total-3,400mg total
      With epa being double the amount of dha
      So the low dose is
      1500mg epa & 750mg,dha
      The high dose is
      2266mg epa & 1133mg dha
      Although I think you will easily find pills that are 1000mg servings and I would just take 3 of those servings 3000mg easy number to hit 😉
      2000mg,epa + 1000mg,dha
      If you are underweight id do low dose and if you are average or overweight id do full dose
      Or try full dose then switch to low after few weeks and experiment with that range and the products available

    1. Wrong form of Omega 3. EPA is what counts.
    2. Not taking enough Omega 3. Aim for 1 - 2 grams (1000 - 2000 mg) of EPA, and try to not have more than half as much DHA.
    3. Attempting to get enough Omega 3 from food with the purpose of treating depression, because it's difficult. (Debatable.)

    I have just found your video after trying to research what supplements to take for my mood swings since I've gone through my menopause, I have been taking nordic naturals EPA 850mg DHA 200mg twice daily, its only been a month and the difference in my moods is very recognised, I will continue with these and add them to my lifestyle supplements, many thanks for this video it has helped me so much x

    By 2012, it also helped me with depression. I took 900 mg EPA daily (3 Capsules) for 1 month,
    And there was a huge improvement, only then I was 19 and I couldn't afford to buy again.
    Now after 12 years I will try again, I started 3-4 days ago and it must take 2-4 weeks to feel the difference.
    12 years ago, I also took a multivitamin, so it was a double advantage.
    It's funny to think that a foreign video doctor tells more than a psychiatrist in my country.
    Antidepressants wouldn't be bad, but the side effects are hellish.
    And there is a side effect that speaks of eternal life.

    I have been using fish oil with polyphenols, very strong antioxidants. My daily dose is just 12 ml and that amount contains 2500 mg of Omega-3, out of which 1300 mg is EPA, 700 mg is DHA, 150 mg is DPA and 700 mg is Omega-7. Changed my Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio from 24.3:1 to 2.4:1 in 5 months, test-proven.

    Thank you so much. I checked my bottle of cod liver oil and it contains only 100 mg EPA and 240 mg DHA per capsule, no wonder it did nothing for me.

      @Austin Harp i actually got a better brand from vitamin world and i got some blood work done, and come to find out i was vitamin d deficient smh,i was at a level 10 and now im taking a mega dose of vitamin d 50,000iu once a week and i tell you i feel a whole lot better,i recommend everyone to get some blood work done if they're having anxiety and depression more than likely it might be vitamin d deficiency

    It worked for me and changed my life. I asked why it was never listed as an option for treatment and the concern was that it can thin blood. I just still can’t believe that it worked but it did.

      @@DrJanelleSinclair I don’t mind at all that you asked; I hope more people hear about it! Before taking it I had anxiety attacks and depression, with trouble regulating my mood. I started taking fish oil supplements, paying attention to reach a daily dose of 1,000 mgs of EPA. I felt a noticeable difference within 3 days and continued to improve. I probably plateaued and reached some sort of equilibrium within a week. I felt depression and anxiety at an 8 or a 9 before, and today I’d say I feel it at a 3. The difference is massive and it has been about a year and half that I’ve enjoyed this new life of doing dishes, talking to people without panicking, and not avoiding my family. At my local grocery store these supplements are about $17 for a bottle and are frequently on a buy-one-get-one-free sale. It’s the cheapest, most effective, best investment I make. I’m happy to answer any questions about it. I was so miserable- I worry that people will stumble across the scams and “snake oil” videos all over TH-cam and mistake this as another one of those.     Now Foods Ultra Omega-3, 500 EPA/250 DHA, 180 Fish Softgels. Be careful, NOW brand has several variations of Omega-3. Choose the ULTRA to get the 500 EPA/250 DHA.

    Almost all fish oils are preserved by tocopherols like one of suggested: Gelatin (bovine), purified water and glycerin (vegetable source) gelcap, vitamin E (mixed tocopherols). Unfortunately tocopherols don't preserve in long term fish oils from losing DHA and EPA. Only those who are additionally preserved with poliphenols from olive oil are keep highest DHA and EPA level

    I looked this topic up because my mood has been very good lately and I was wondering if it was because I was taking flaxseed for 6 weeks for another illness, because I remembered a Registered Dietitian in the US say this can work for depression. I've been taking 6 tablespoon of whole flax seeds crushed in a high speed blender with fruit and water. I've also been eating a large mixing bowl of salad with olive oil.
    Dr Sinclair said you would have to take 3 to 10 Tablespoons of flaxseed for depression, so I'm right about in the middle of that range. Also, I have not noticed any laxative effect to taking this much flaxseed. Obviously, if I'm eating this much flax, fruit, and vegetables, I'm going to have many bowel movements a day, but they are not like those associated with diarrhea (runny and with cramping). In fact they are so well formed that they have cleared up problems I was having with constipation and related painful or irritation issues. Those went away after just a few days on this protocol, and this is after 4 years of on-again off-again issues.

    I tried Omega 3 with a high Epa and low Dha and that triggered my panic attacks.So I found a capaule with a higher Dha than Epa and it seems to be working a little better.

      So the High Dha and low Epa capsule has actually reduced my anxiety ,panic attacks and depression@@DrJanelleSinclair hence I think that may the reason why people take the high Dha capsules as it may be assisting in fighting off the depression and anxiety.I got this idea from the Psychology Today Magazine in fact and so far its proved itself .

      There's no safety concerns about taking omega 3 long-term. I would suggest you take the prescribed dosage for 6 months. I'd drop down to half that dose for maintenance unless your mood drops again after dropping the dose.

    Dr. How does Krill oil compare with regular fish oil. For past years ive used nordic naturals then switched up to krill, and noticed possible boost. Any differences with effect on mood btw krill oil and fish oil. Thank you

    Great video! I take Carlson Fish Oil 800 mg EPA 500 mg DHA per tsp. I take 3 tsp before going to bed. Is this too much DHA? I do sometimes get tired the next day.

    Dear Dr Janelle,
    I noticed when I take fish oil that my depression and anxious symptoms increase, why is that ? Have you heard of this before? However when I eat fresh fish like salmon it’s not a problem, but certain other fish can cause a increase It’s the same thing with any variety of nuts. Have you heard of this before too? If not, I’m just wondering how can I stop it because, when I was younger I used to be able to eat those foods without a problem.

    Thanks for all information. Can you tell us which form of Omega-3 Fatty Acids we have to use? My opinion is EE form. But EE form has less bioavailability than TG forms. What is your offer and why?

    I use Nature Made fish oil. The ratios are 1.5/1 for EPA/DHA. I hope that's good enough and not too much DHA. I take about 4 a day. about 1400 mg EPA/ 960 mg DHA.

      It still might not be a large enough amount of EPA compared to DHA. When you finish this bottle you might want to look for something different if you don't feel a considerable change in your mood.

    I ordered omega 3, which contain 1000 mg of EPA and 500 mg of dha per recommended daily dose of 2 tablets. Is this the right ratio to treat depression? thanks for the reply.😊

    If you supplement, try finding algae oil. avoid fish. and keep your omega6 intake as low as possible. Then ALA to EPA conversion functions the best! Flax seeds are wonderful. make sure to grind them before consuming, for best absorption.

      Thanks for your input but there's actually no research to say that algae oil works like fish oil can when it comes to depression. Algae oil and fish oil are very different in their composition/ratio of EPA and DHA.

    Hello Dr. The Omega 3 brand i just bought is WHILEY'S FINEST WILD ALASKAN FISH OIL "PEAK EPA". The mg are...750 epa and 250 mg dha. Do I take 3 to 4 capsules per day ( breakfast, lunch, and dinner), to treat depression/axienty? Thankyou Dr for your time. Im so confused about the 1,000 to 2, 000 dosage .

      One Capsule would be 1000mg.750epa+250dha=1000mg. Two Capsules are 1500mg+500dha=2000mg. So you can take 1 or 2 capsules.Excellent Ratio!

    Hey there.. Have you read the book called Depression: The Way Out by Neil Nedley.. In the book there's nothing about EPA or DHA ratio whatsoever. He treated his patients very successfully with Omega-3, suffering mostly from depression and bipolar disorder. His recommendation is 9gr/day + daily intake of natural Omega-3 in flaxseeds, walnuts.. The book is from 2001 btw. Just wondering what you think of that? Thanks.

      Yes. If it's that does for 2 capsules, then I'd take 3-4 capsules twice daily.

      I have not seen any research that says flaxseed oil decreases depression. It does not contain the EPA that specifically lowers inflammation in the brain. You're welcome to link the research if there's been some recent new research

    Getting it from a natural source is the best.Salmon for example.It works way better than taking fish oil.

    Dr Sinclair i am male 63,I take meds for depression anxiety.I have to check fish oil I have at home. Also Dr recommended I take l-methyl folate. vit D and B Complex .I also had very low testosterone and am doing android gel on arms nightly. I have to say feel slightly better.

      Best time to take Omega 3 is with food (Otherwise you can regurgitate it). There's no specific times of the day. It's really about what suits your schedule and what you can stomach when.

    Is anxiety treated by DHA? Is fish oil effective for anxiety? What about OCD?

      The data isn't clear about anxiety and OCD. The best thing is to get all of your individual fatty acids tested so you know what it is that you need.

      It's very difficult for vegans to get enough EPA. Linseed and walnuts are a good source of ALA, but the body isn't very efficient at making EPA from ALA. There are some Omega 3 supplements from algae, which are obviously vegan friendly. The problem with these supplements is that they have more DHA than EPA. As explained in the video it is EPA that treats depression, not the DHA. If I was someone who was choosing to eat a vegan diet, and had depression, I would bend the rules and take a high dose EPA fish oil for 3-6 months to see if the depression could be resolved. But obviously that is up to an individual to decide that.
