People love the greedy, silly, cuddly, affectionate, musical and sensual sound of French. It's more a matter of pleasure, desire, feeling, affection for the sound of the language. It is not an answer that has to do with reason but with the pleasure and affection offered by the French language.
Odio ese tipo de comentario de "Solo hablo un idioma porque soy estadounidense" cuando hay muchos estadounidenses que hablan varios idiomas. Hablar solo un idioma no justifica tu nacionalidad
Although i am not fluent in any foreign language, i continue to study English and French with Japanese as my native language. My Goal is to become trilingual. However, there is a risk in speaking more than one language, and i am afraid that i may become semi-lingual in any language.
There is no risk to know other languages at all, you shouldn't be afraid. Even if you know other language just a little bit - it is better then do not know the language at all. Enjoy your learning! Wish you good luck!
I speak Brazilian Portuguese, but I found in Portugal a lot of people didn't want to speak Portuguese with me, so we'd have labored conversations in English instead, even though my Portuguese was better than their English. I'd say maybe they just wanted to practice English, except sometimes they'd even try to speak French. I really liked Portugal, so I don't mean this as a criticism of the country, it's just something that doesn't happen in other countries where I speak the language, like Spain, for example. Maybe it's an issue they have with Brazil, I don't know.
my Portuguese is so basic and I would say in Lisbon there is not a lot of opportunities to practice Portuguese, cuz as I speak bad portuguese they need to try there best to understand me so they just prefer speak English with me🤦♂ I don't know why in your case they don't speak portuguese with u
@@TravelTongues I wasn't quite sure. It was different from my usual experience. It doesn't even happen to me in France, where it's always said French people are really picky, and my Portuguese is better than my French. The only thing I can think is that it's so very clearly Brazilian Portuguese that I'm speaking. I was only in the country a little longer than a week, and mostly in the Lisbon area, so it could be very different in other parts of the country.
A friend of mine has the same problem lol she is russian but no one gives her an opportunity to speak portuguese. I think they lack patience. Would you like to improve your portuguese? In Brasil, you definitely can!
Why everyone wants to learn French? Listen very carefully, I will only say this once: Je ne veux pas apprendre le français ! (BTW I speak 2 languages fluently)

French is widely spoken so learning it lets you communicate with many people
Egad! You’ve cracked the case
