  • Tour of the lifts at Mid Kent Collage
Note: When I say the building is dull, I am only referring to how it looks on the outside. There is nothing wrong with the inside, it is a perfectly nice college. I am just not keen on this style of architecture.

@SchindlerLift1874, the lifts were built before the building and buildings take about a year to build (exept the new Topman & Topshop in Strand Street, Douglas which took a few months). In 2009, the new colledge was opened and the old one had shut down.

I found this lift review of the MidKent college lifts to be quite satisfactory and would definitely recommend them to any other lift enthusiasts who are looking for an excellent ride.
Overall I would give these lifts an 8/10 for their high quality up and down system.

At the very end @4:39 those two doors you see on the wall on the right are the only remaining entrances to HMS Wildfire, the underground naval complex. They are the emergency exits. It would be good to see down there again.

I agree. I like Otis 2000 much better. Especially the really old ones from the early 1990s with series 1 fixtures.

yes same here. And even the mid-1990's OTIS 2000 with newer OTIS fixtures were better than this. I've had a 1994's OTIS 2000 with new fixtures in my old school. This lift is one of the first OTIS 2000 of that sort. It is very nice to ride it and looks like it uses classic relay.

I'm quite a fan of Otis lifts, and in my opinion there Gen2s are nice but not as good as their lifts older than the 90s. These have a nice speed.

The reason why nearly all lift companies make cheap and poor quality lifts is because we are living in a throw away society and to make more profit, as well as keeping everything looking 'up to date'. Back years ago, probably before 1995, most lifts were built to last many decades (some from the 50's and 60's could last well over 80 or 90 years with proper servicing), however, as time has gone on, people complain about a lift from let's say the 1960's looking 'so old and ancient'. Because of this, and because the lift companies are not making much money from just lift servicing or repair, so even though a lift from the 1960's has well over 40 years left in it (they could go forever), because it looks old to people, the company decides to replace the lift. It the 60's lifts place, they install or put in new equipment that will not last even one tenth as long, so when these lifts start to break down (between 5 to 10 years), they will just replace everything like they did to the 60's lift. The lift companies make money, and everyone that hates the past is happy. Also, another think I have just thought about. When did lifts start to get modernised at a bigger level than previous, right, from 2008 on, when the World Recession started. The reason for this is because due to the lack of new buildings being built because of building companies going bankrupt, the lift companies installing lifts didn't get much work. So to make money (especially the Generic lift companies), they would go into buildings and say that the lifts were unsafe, so the building owners would have no choice but to get the lift modded, which in my opinion is a scam. The lift companies could if they wanted to, get the building owners into trouble by the Health and Safety Authority by them refusing to make their lifts 'safe' and a lift engineer is 'never wrong' in the eyes of the law. It's not that they are not bothered to make good lifts, they are being clever and sneaky about making as much money as possible. It just goes to show you that the world is a corrupt place
