Very nice bird nest walk! The amount of nests that you find is amazing! How can you tell that it's a Garden warbler nest and not a Blackcap( if you don't see/hear adults nearby)?
Thanks I appreciate it! There's no 100% certain way to differentiate but there's some good pointers in my experience. Blackcap tend to be overall more neat than garden warbler, moss used in the rim is almost always blackcap, but again, occasionally garden warbler do this too - garden warbler also less likely to use darker lining than blackcap. Eggs of garden warbler generally paler on the base with a little less blotching. But there's definitely crossover between them so the only 100% certain way is to see ir hear the birds
Thanks for giving us an insight into what must be - surely for many, a very little seen event.
Thankyou for watching! I'm glad I'm able to share these with people like you!
I hope your Hedge Accentors repay you with big numbers for next year
I hope so! I didn't find many Last year at all, this year a Bonanza
