my college has an awesome laundry room. The appliances are locked until you put in your code/swipe your ID and there is a cell phone app that tells you when your clothes are done and what washers/dryers are empty!
I was an RA for a year in college, and the circuits got overloaded a lot! At least at my school. Especially when two roommates had curling and flat irons plugged in warming up while they were drying their hair.
Loveddd this! You should do an organizational video next. I'm going to be an incoming freshman and have noo idea how I'm going to organize my makeup/shoes/jewelry in such a small space.
Instead of a drying rack (because it takes up a lot of space in a tiny dorm room!) I like to use an over the door hanger rod type thing. I got one from Bed Bath & Beyond. It just goes over the door of your closet and you can put your wet clothes on hangers to dry and it takes up a lot less space!!
Thank you so much! I'll be going to college in two years, which seems like a long time but I know it's going to fly by, and there are some things that you mentioned that I would've never thought of. By this point, I don't need/want to hear high school videos. These college ones are so much more interesting and helpful.
I just came across this video and the thing about the external hard drive (and flash drives) is so true, I lost all my notes and assignments a week before exams from my laptop hard drive crashing and I failed a bunch of exams. Not good. And...isn't pepper spray illegal for people to just carry around?
Yes, exactly - it got cleaned a few times a week by the accommodation staff. It worked out as exactly the same as one shower between a family of four being cleaned twice a week.
The cool thing about the campus I will be living on is that they have a website that monitors what washers and dryers are free and you can even get a text when your laundry is done.
Good Idea for a video! Don't forget scissors those come in handy. also the tiny staplers, people are always looking for a stapler in class, and there's not always one there!
I recommend amazon, i love that place. Usually the cheapest place to find one. (best external hard drive would be a ssd not a hdd, and i would get an aluminum case, if you get a hdd, with a fan if you plan to use it for periods of times (like streaming movies from it)) I think im just going to get a 64 gb flash drive.... (its a ssd PLUS!) and usually you can find one pretty cheap, most people wont need one bigger than 64gb(for important stuff, not a butt load of music or videos)
I'm going to college this year, do you have any advice for dealing with roommates? I'm a little nervous about what kind of person I'm going to live with.
I'm going to college next year but I'm getting the dorm that's on my own, it's the exact same price as it would be to have a room mate .. except you get a bigger bed:) Where I'm going the school is safe, but a town 30 minutes from me a girl I went to high school with there's been attempted kidnaps, a guy seen with a gun, guys trying to pick up girls & schools only been back for like 2 weeks.. so the pepper spray thing would be a good idea depending on your school!
It's nice to know that someone else thinks about bringing medicine to college! I did last year (sophomore year) and it was the best thing ever. I had allergy pills, ibuprofen, bandaids, alka seltzer...you name it, I had it! And every so often, girls from my floor would come to me because they knew I had what they needed!
Great tips! Going to College/Uni next year so I'm just watching a tun of videos to prepare myself... all though, most of them are very American. In the UK we don't have roommates and I think Pepper Spray is illegal? idk, no one uses it or talks about it. & I've heard that we're not allowed to nail pictures into the wall, but pictures and blue tack will have to do :)
could you tell us about living in a dorm i would really like to know because i will be going away to college soon and i would really appreciate some insight thanks!
FYI computer crashing doesn't mean you lost everything. your hard-drive is most likely still in good shape even on a laptop and can be removed quite easily. you need to know this because depending on what you do with your broken computer someone could get access to all your information very easily which happens ALL the time. but it is smart to backup your work on an external hard-drive
I never thought of bringing pepper spray, but it is always good to be safe. And do you carry it with you everywhere you go? Also, it was kind of funny I think when you said that maybe you want to teach your roommate a lesson by spraying it in her face, LOL! Thanks for the video, it was very helpful!
thanks for the reminder :) im a freshman this year :) well im going to beauty school haha.. but im living on my own so i needed this to remind me of things i will need
How could like suck if you have an alternative solution to sitting home alone, your bedroom door locked, flailing away at your tiny pud as you peruse old, crinkled copies of Gent magazine with the pages stuck together from previous peruser's crusting loads?
thank u that did help so much ! can u do another one for other stuffs that we need to pack for school dorm , i am so nervous and i don't know wahta to take with me or not cause i am going to study abroad so it's so difficult for me to pack big things in my suitcase so please help to pack my luggage for a school dorm life
For your freshman year, no. You probably won't need them when you're living in the dorms because the housing staff will be able to fix everything for you. That being said, if you decide to move into an apartment or a house off campus as an upperclassman, you will definitely wish for at least a screwdriver sometimes, since property management company maintenance crews can take up to a few days to respond to your fix-it issues.
I think the tools are more geared towards people who are living in an apartment or something. I wouldn't really recommend buying tools if you're living in a dorm, unless you already have a tool kit laying around. Just my opinion though :)
This is a great video Katie, very good idea, because some people would never think of these things. They just think college yay fun. but beware it can be pretty tough if u arent prepared.
Not all rooms are like that...It also depends what year you are in. You might have to share bathroom if you're a freshman, but later on you can switch dorms.

What college is this? 😭
I use the Jenna Marble rule with dryers; if it gets ruined in the dryer, it doesn't belong in my closet.
3:17 finding a boy who has TOOLS to do stuff 4 u lol! funny

omg these videos are such good ideas, i never even thought of the whole bathroom flipflop situation!

Yep! Came in handy when I put together my bookshelf and hung my pictures!
I just came across this video and the thing about the external hard drive (and flash drives) is so true, I lost all my notes and assignments a week before exams from my laptop hard drive crashing and I failed a bunch of exams. Not good.
And...isn't pepper spray illegal for people to just carry around?
no thats mace thats illegal
Oh Okay!
yeah Probably a big difference between the two but i really don't know hahaha
No worries...great video though!
Mace is ALOT stronger like alot more pain an such
not in college any more, but great tips non the less!!!

My daughter will be leaving for college a year from now. Thanks for the video, I'll show it to her tonight. Well done sweetie.
Good Idea for a video! Don't forget scissors those come in handy. also the tiny staplers, people are always looking for a stapler in class, and there's not always one there!
Me too! And you need card keys to get into literally EVERYTHING. It's super cool and safe. :D

@cutseygymnast I got it from Target a few years ago!
This video makes me feel very prepared. I remembered all of these things when I went to college :)
Someone else said this also. Before you buy pepper spray check your countries laws. Its illegal here in Canada.
Great list! I'm in college and you definitely need all of the items on there!
I'm going to be a freshman this fall, your videos are so helpful and just what I was looking for. Thanks so much! :)
I'm going to college this year, do you have any advice for dealing with roommates? I'm a little nervous about what kind of person I'm going to live with.
its just a pet peeve of mine but the one thing is when people put a space before putuation. Exactly Like This !
where'd you get your pepper spray? it's pretty portable and cute too...
I'm going to college next year but I'm getting the dorm that's on my own, it's the exact same price as it would be to have a room mate .. except you get a bigger bed:) Where I'm going the school is safe, but a town 30 minutes from me a girl I went to high school with there's been attempted kidnaps, a guy seen with a gun, guys trying to pick up girls & schools only been back for like 2 weeks.. so the pepper spray thing would be a good idea depending on your school!
awesome video!!! can you please to a college video on how to continue youtube during college?!?
It's nice to know that someone else thinks about bringing medicine to college! I did last year (sophomore year) and it was the best thing ever. I had allergy pills, ibuprofen, bandaids, alka seltzer...you name it, I had it! And every so often, girls from my floor would come to me because they knew I had what they needed!

Great tips! Going to College/Uni next year so I'm just watching a tun of videos to prepare myself... all though, most of them are very American. i have watched so many videos like this and i feel like everyone is missing one IMPORTANT thing ATLEAST FOR ME....a safe box..
tru- I have like two of those. Love your profile pic by the way
What's a safe box
awesomedirt3 It's a lock and key box or a box that you can lock important materials in like a chest.
so true. I havent seen many with a first aid kit either
tonytacheron95 it's possible that some dorms come with a first aid kid, although you're right; i've seen maybe 2 videos that show one
What kind of purse is the one you´re showing in the video?
It´s soo cute :)
wow you are so full of knowledge and good tips! great video thanks so much katie
Hey,Do you ever get to chose your dorm room
FYI computer crashing doesn't mean you lost everything. your hard-drive is most likely still in good shape even on a laptop and can be removed quite easily. you need to know this because depending on what you do with your broken computer someone could get access to all your information very easily which happens ALL the time. but it is smart to backup your work on an external hard-drive
Awesome. Thank You. I'm a mom and this was very helpful. The video was not long. Thank you again.

I've already graduated, but I still watched this. Lol. Good luck on your senior year!!

did she seriously just tell people to find some nice guy use him for tools and as a servant?
Yup
I hope a future boy friend watches this video then looks at her and says fuck that
ok
I never thought of bringing pepper spray, but it is always good to be safe. And do you carry it with you everywhere you go? Also, it was kind of funny I think when you said that maybe you want to teach your roommate a lesson by spraying it in her face, LOL! Thanks for the video, it was very helpful!
I'm in my second year of college and this is seriously helpful things to have. I don't know why more people haven't watched this yet lol

Really good video, I loved all of your tips! Thank you! :)
where did you get that huge hardrive from??
How could like suck if you have an alternative solution to sitting home alone, your bedroom door locked, flailing away at your tiny pud as you peruse old, crinkled copies of Gent magazine with the pages stuck together from previous peruser's crusting loads?
do you live in a dorm now or an apartment??

Where did you get the pink tools from ?
What is the thing you put your bras in called???????

"If you had a long night, and you're not feeling so great and you need to make it to class in the morning" Hahahaha story of my life! Lol
I used a hammer my freshman year when some friends wanted to loft their beds and they needed a hammer to pound the connecting pins into the posts.
This was actually really helpful. Thanks :)
I'm so lucky we have our own bathroom in out actual dorm room. Just to be shared between you and your roommate
What are you going to need tools for? Really curious... should I get tools for my freshman year or not?
For your freshman year, no. You probably won't need them when you're living in the dorms because the housing staff will be able to fix everything for you. That being said, if you decide to move into an apartment or a house off campus as an upperclassman, you will definitely wish for at least a screwdriver sometimes, since property management company maintenance crews can take up to a few days to respond to your fix-it issues.
this was helpful! a bit different to the others on youtube. thanks :)
Where did you get the plugs ? :)
this is REALLY helpful!!!! thank you!!!
hammering with a book sounds smart too!
Where can I buy pepper spray? I really want to buy one.
This was very helpful, thank you so much:)
@megxxlyn an apartment! but my first two years I lived in a dorm :)
Not all rooms are like that...It also depends what year you are in. You might have to share bathroom if you're a freshman, but later on you can switch dorms.
Wheeled bag for those books. I fell from all the weight one day on the cement, and scraped my face.
i use a really cute tote bag that has wheels
Great advice! :] I'm quite a pack rat, so I usually bring MORE than I need, but I think all of the items you suggested are basically essentials!
love this video. thanks for the tips!
Ear Plugs! Yes! That's what I need! I wish I knew that sooner!
And what do you prefer, a dorm or apartment?
So helpful! Thank you!
Can you do a Vlog video telling about all your crazy college stories? (:
Super helpful thank you!!!
Thanks, i'm going to college this coming year and i'll be a freshie and that helped alot! :D Great advice! :)
