One of the best revolvers I’ve ever owned!
It really is underrated. I love mine
Then I guess you haven't owned a Smith yet?
~ ...
How can you NOT love RUGER in general???
A GREAT company who
1. Came out with the RUGER STANDARD 22 LR pistol in 1949..
2. When COLT ended the SAA, They came out with the Single Six 22lr in 1953 or so
3. In ~1963 ... Ruger introduced the 10/22... Some say the BEST (I'm a MARLIN Guy) 22 Semi auto EVER!
4.The Security, Speed six, and service six DA Revolvers
5. THE 44 MAG Carbine
6. THE MINI 14 DAMN IT.... BA BARACUS APPROVED!!!
Oh my dislike of Ruger has nothing to do with quality. I love their revolvers. However their owner has on several occasions supported gun control and betrade us. On that note the NRA has also sold us out on several occasions.
@@ninjainflannel Bill's DEAD... GET OVER IT!!! Do you hate Springfield too?
I wouldn’t say I hate Ruger or Springfield but it’s important to note issues like this with companies. If we remember it and bring it up a lot, they may be less likely to do it to us again. Springfield does have some sketchy stuff in their past and I believe last year Daniel Defense stated quite a bit of support in favor of the ATF.
I’m not even saying we should boycott them, but we need to remember these things
@@ninjainflannel If that's how you feel, then you can add Smith & Wesson to the list as well for their partnership with the Clinton administration in 2000. clintonwhitehouse4.archives.gov/WH/New/html/20000317_2.html
I have the three inch version, and have carried it on and off for years. I highly recommend it.
Nice! Thanks for your feedback
I did not realize the cylinder was that easy to remove. Hmm...I've been thinking of buying one of these, that sealed the deal.
Seriously want this gun….next one on my buy list….
It’s a solid revolver.
You wont regret it, I carry a 3 inch SP101. Its accurate, strong and easy to carry.
Yup!
Ruger SP101 was the most accurate revolver I ever owned right out of the box.
Same! It’s rugers masterpiece in my opinion
Love mine! I dehorned it and polished it up to a mirror shine and now it's so easy to clean. I also put a reduced power hammer spring and trigger spring now it's easier to hit with. No light primer strikes ever. 10 years and smooth as glass. The more I shoot it the smoother it has gotten.
That is awesome. I have seen this revolver in very similar builds to that and it looks really nice.
I've had my Sp101 for about 4yrs now and never knew you could slide the cylinder out like that without completely disassembling it.
Thanks for sharing boss! 🙏
Yes sir!
You are a NEWCOMER! I have carried my SP101 since 1991ish It is the PERFECT carry gun.
My preferred carry gun, love mine
The SP101s are built like a little tank. Mines been part of the carry rotation for a number of years now. Always gone bang, trigger has smoothed out over the years, it just keeps on trucking.
Awesome to hear. Love mine too
Pretty sure the cylinder isnt designed to come off that way
Idk other videos look like they are doing the same thing. There isn’t really a mechanism to release it
@@ninjainflannel That you know of. Never seen that before. I could be wrong...
Bought this same snubbies for my girlfriend. Since then, her SP101 was customized with new grips that resemble the GP100 7 shot and a fiber optic sight. It is a fine gun indeed.
That sounds like a nice setup!
Very nice!... After all these years it's still one of the best compact revolvers out there. I have a 3" barrel model. I agree with the aftermarket Hogue grip... And I've got the trigger on mine down to about 8lbs/3lbs DASA - by a gunsmith.
Ooooo that’s a nice trigger weight
I never knew you could pull cylinder off like that?
Yeah most people say the same thing. Maybe min is a freak thing but it has always been that way
@@ninjainflannel how old is yours?
I got mine last year.
I just ordered badger boot grips and want to polish it. I saw a short your tube video polished with the exact same grips and it is beautiful.
th-cam.com/video/dvV819wTUeY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZbikXT3kE7Oc-3hz
Mine also has hogue grips and fiber optic front sight with a trigger job. It is a awesome little tank of a gun.
It seems that almost everybody who has ever owned this gun and loves it. That’s a good sign.
Ruger makes great powerful revolvers. Their
.22 s are second to none with 10/22 or the 22/45 pistols. I also really like their bolt action rifles of the 77 line. Their Pistols are all very acurate and reliable. I had a P90 that was stolen that was as accurate as any of my Sigs or HKs.
Yeah ruger has some good stuff. I’m not really a fan of their semi autos other than the 22/45 & 10/22. Revolvers are always good though
I've had the 3" version since 2011 & it was my CCW for years my carry round was Winchester 110 gr JHP & sometimes Remington 125 gr to minimize over penetration. I put a Hogue grip on mine too. It's one of those guns I'll never get rid of.
I love mine. Very well built
Don’t slap or flick the cylinder back in. Over time it damages the arm.
Yes people like to remind each other of that very often.
The hammerless LCR is the version I carry…. Actually great in the pocket
Nice. Not a huge fan of pocket carry but it works for some people.
I have a Ruger sp 101 and I love the gun. All my friends want to buy it off me but nope lol
Same! People try to buy mine all the time.
ACTUALLY it’s a BEAST! When they first started producing the SP101 the tag line was THE BEAST and a porting company had the option of TAME THE BEAST porting.
🤯 I never knew that! I should’ve kept that name
I carry the same revolver with the same grip. I did the spring kit to soften the trigger, and i carry it open with a right hand outside holster.
Because I carry it in Wyoming, the first round is snake shot, with the rest being solid copper handloads, unless I'm in grizzly territory, and I change out the snake round to all solid copper.
Nice! Would you recommend the trigger spring kit? I have never tried it.
Changed out the main hammer spring in mine.. Lightin up the trigger pull for more accurate double action shooting and put hugue grips on it. Other then that been a great pistol...
@oreGUNboy, it's definitely not supposed to come off like that ! There's got to be a defect of some sort for this gentleman's cylinder to just slide off like that! I've had my SP101 357 since '93 and mine won't even budge !
I luv the SP101 with the Pachmayr grips
I'm bragging. First. I love mine. It's a "Magna port custom" that( the single and double action is simply AMAZING) I had KG GUNKOTED black but I left many of the high polished parts to include the jeweled trigger and bobbed also jeweled hammer. XS big dot front sight. Black grip I ordered from Israel. Yup....it rocks. Don't just buy a gun...invest in one.
Nice! And i love that last statement
@@ninjainflannel makes sense to me
I plan to make the SP101 my next handgun purchase. However I am in severe need of a long gun or two. I am picking up a Ruger PCC and a Henry Big Boy .357 first. But then I got my sight set on one of these. I already own a couple taurus revolvers, and they're very nice. I especially love my 85 executive grade. But I am still a fan of these Ruger wheel guns as well. I want a SP101 3" and a Match Grade version. And I want a 7 shot GP100 with a 6" barrel. Only issue is that GP100 is not legal in California. So I plan to get a .357 Redhawk with a 5.5" barrel. That will make a good night stand firearm when/if I decide to switch out my Glock 21 from said role.
Yeah I think you will definitely like the SP101 it’s a really good revolver
The hogue grip is a must for it love mine
Yeah it’s such a small thing that majorly changes the whole feel of the gun
@@ninjainflannel for sure
Have the exact same model with the same Hogue grips. Carry it on occasion in a Mitch Rosen belt holster.
Nice!
Cool video, thanks! I wish they made a six-shot version in .38 Special or .357 Magnum.
That would actually be cool
hammer is so rough that it exfoliates the finger print ridges off my thumb and embeds them into the checkering. I get that these are defensive tools and that this is an advantageous feature, but I can also understand why someone would want to soften this up a bit. So long as it's still easy to operate. Still, we should all be shooting without cocking the hammer back. Nobody is sniping with this thing.
I can’t say I have ever noticed the hammer being that rough. However, I am also blue-collar so my hands are usually beat up pretty hard at work
I had bought the Hogue grip like yours, and its better than stock, but i felt like there wasnt enough meat where my ring finger and pinky. I just bought the Pachmayr diamond pro grips, and i definitely prefer it to the hogue.
Oh that’s good to know. You must have a bit bigger hands than me. I’ll make sure to recommend the Pachmayr to people. 👍
I have the same gun, same grip, just in the 3 inch barrel. I carry it often. If I’m not carrying my sp101 I have my Glock 19 or an LCP2 in 380
Nice!
The frame is missing the little ledge that keeps cylinder on, or something got bent from cowboy closing the cylinder. Call ruger if it bugs you.
Maybe they didn’t machine the ledge like you said. I have shot it a lot but never really cowboy closed the cylinder more than like 2 times so it probably isn’t that.
The 101 is nice but man that five shot capacity is a real deal breaker for me.
Those Hogue grips do look nice, wish I could find something like that for my Security Six.
Great video 👍🏻
Thanks man I appreciate the feedback.
I own several RUGER handguns no complaints with any of them.
Nice! I love their revolvers. Not really a fan of their semi autos though
Mine is on its way to New Hampshire. Out of timing and cylinder not honed multiple fired shells getting stuck..
Shot over 200 rounds 4 different types of ammo..
That’s crazy! Other than my Desert Tech MDRX I have never had a gun break
Nice revolver ❤❤❤❤
Thanks. It has worked well for me for a long time
Roger makes a great revolver. But this revolver only holds 5 rounds. I want 6. Like my Colt Diamondback. 38 plus P's are good to go.
Idk if your worried about ammo count maybe leave the revolver realm lol
I'm about positive I want a 3" model. Have to handle one to know for sure. Ruger is one of those companies that I really want to like, but find them coming up short in most areas.
Yup I agree. However I think they nailed it with the SP101 and the Vaquero
@@ninjainflannel , 10/22 as well.
Good call the 10/22 has our respect. But your right most of their stuff seems subpar
I use the taurus 856 or the 605 if i need 357. carry with plus p ammo and extra speed strip. I've tried to buy the ruger but prices way to high for this old retired fixed income coot! Seems to me thought that a 2.5 inch gp 100 would also be good! tanks! and i dont carry appendix or iwb style. only owb for me. while it seems fast i just wont do it plus i dont have a 25 years olds stomach.
Love the gun. Do not remove the cylinder like that.
Yeah a lot of comment are saying that mine is abbynormal. Might reach out to ruger about it
@@ninjainflannel if you don’t put it back exactly right you could mess up the timing. And the end shake may be out of spec. Their customer service is top notch. At least the last time I dealt with them.
Good to know Thanks for feedback and info
@@ninjainflannel my LCR broke 2 times. They were like, what can we do to make this better. I said send me a 357 sp101 and they did.
Got one with them grips
Nice!
My model 629 performance center snubnose carries well.
I’ve never handled one but I have heard really good things about them.
I have the 3inch model it's awesome. I have hogue grips on mine.
Yeah the Hogue grips are key.
I too have the same setup. Recently acquired it for 500 used. Had the hi viz front sight on it already. I put the Hogue grips on. After shooting a couple hundred rounds, I think it would be worth the $750ish that I am seeing new ones go for.
One of my first also.
Only 5 rounds, but incredibly SEXY.
LOVE mine.
💯
Big n heavy, I’d go with a SW
You don’t prefer big and heavy?
You don’t like Ruger?!? Man why don’t you just say you don’t like my mom or you don’t like the American flag or you think my grandpas gay
I do think your grandpa is gay and your mom is rather suspicious. American flag is legit though as always. I like Ruger revolvers and 22s but pretty much nothing else. They are a bit of a cringe company too if you look at their history. Them and the NRA are in the same category of yuck politically.
@@ninjainflannel 😂😂🤝
@@wbgames7406 😂😂 we would be friends. I can tell lol
@@ninjainflannel most definitely 💯😂👌
I’m thinking of purchasing one. There about $750 now
Yeah I see them used on armslist and tacswap for 600 sometimes. Worth every penny in my opinion.
Dinosaur alert! Dinosaur alert! I bought my first one of these (in this same configuration) in 1999 for $369.00 new at a big box sporting goods store.
😂😂😂
I bought mine 9 years ago for $600 new at a local gun shop.
Purchased mine 9 months ago ..1k
What holster are you using in video when drawing from appendix?
It was a crap universal one. I wouldn’t recommend it
@@ninjainflannel my biggest issue with it is getting my support hand thumb out of the way.
I have tried thumb behind trigger and it still hurts.
I shoot it fine.
Shoots slightly high and to the right.
You are lying, the revolvers need cleaning too if not they won't function as well.
Revolvers are more forgiving of neglect than any semiautomatic.
@kawikadavid8958 nobody likes you
Nice! 💯💯💯 Do you have a holster for this revolver?
I’ve never gotten a good holster for it. Just crappy universal holsters.
Check out Wright leather Works.
Mine was hot garbage. Rough crown, excessive end shake, undersized throats, rough barrel, rough chambers, and a mis machined notch in the cylinder. Rather than sending it back, I opted to fix it myself to gain experience. I polished the crown, shimmed the cylinder, had the throats honed to the proper size, fire lapped the barrel, and polished the chambers. Couldn't do anything about the poorly machined notch but it doesn’t cause too many problems. It will occasionally skip time if fired in a certain sequence (putting the unfired bullet weight in just the right place) and slowly in double action, but another trigger pull gets it back in action. The trigger rubs the frame on one side and I considered shimming it, but didn’t want to complicate disassembly/reassembly. Over time, the trigger and frame have polished each other and friction is minimal. Overall, it is a solid revolver that sits really well in my hand with Diamond Pro grips, I was just disappointed in Ruger’s QC. There are various reports on Ruger’s customer service had I sent it back in, but I think they are probably as good in this department as any other large manufacturer.
I’m not sure about your cylinder pulling off like it does without disassembly. Mine has a small nub on the frame that prevents this from happening, but I believe the have made a few small changes over the years so that may be one of them.
Wow that’s crazy! Mine has always been great
Ruger rules
you can get up on it with the hogue
Yup. Makes a huge difference
man she looks like she jumping, I could only image what the MODEL 340 PD - NO INTERNAL LOCK would do. I am torn between that and this and the only thing stopping me on that PD is the price. I dont reeally want to be that poor
Spending money on guns never really makes you poor because you can always resell for decent value if need be. 👀
hahahaha, I like how you put that into words.@@ninjainflannel
I have both. 340 pd is nice and light ,but If I had to choose only 1. The sp101 all day!
