I swear by the grain free chicken food by The Honest Kitchen. When our lab couldn’t eat anything it was the only food he didn’t vomit up, and best of all he LOVED it. And our pug who’s had cancer since she was 5, is now 13 and still around. Living her best senior years. 💕

I really appreciate how informative your videos are! I've always enjoyed learning from you. I hope one day you could discuss single protein versus mixed protein for dogs, as there seems to be a lot of mixed opinions about it online.

I have always used grain free my amstaffs have a grain sensitivity. I had a heart to heart with my vet and we came up with a supplemental plan for them. I make oat or barely with home made beef broth. Also add in bean sprouts and alfalfa. I go weekly to various farmer markets to get the ingredients and spend Sundays making thier food for the week.
The Dogtor said she loves the blood work results, the weight, the energy levels, fur health, skin health, and nail health.
It's was work to find the correct amounts of all ingredients to get them to this point. It's worth it.
They also get filet Mignon, salmon, and tuna steak, cooked to medium they love thier Friday nights.

I have 2 dogs with between them a whole list of allergies and intolerances, I feed them what they can tolerate. I have tried raw feeding, with a very long changeover period and it didn't work, I have stopped feeling guilty about it, they have what doesn't make them ill. I spend far, far more on their food, and they're 2 small dogs, than I do on my own and I shall continue to do so.

All 4 of my dachshunds have been raw and doing good! Cold turkey went well and has improved their health… my bully mix on the other hand. Raw, expensive kibble, dehydrated…. He had horrible allergies and reactions to everything accept gravy train kibble. I was happy with how cheap it is but I did feel guilty that I saw all the benefits my dachshunds were getting. Finally I found that I used beaver meat from a raw dog food co op for sled dogs and then a multivitamin. This helped me experiment with adding 1 food at a time and seeing how his body did with it. He has adjusted well and now he’s been on beef for a few weeks and is doing amazing! (Beaver is more stinky so I prefer beef but he’s allergic to chicken and salmon). Also sometimes it’s the organ meats they are allergic to. Using a multivitamin can help. He still has to take the multivitamin to balance his meal but his allergies have actually improved overtime of being on raw. It was difficult and took 9 months to find what works. Now I can add veggies and grains and fruits and such and certain seasons he takes allergy meds for environment

Most recent evidence points to the pulses/legumes specific in kibble. It’s not whether there are grains or not. If you’re making a kibble you need carbohydrates to stick it together.
While some Goldens may be low taurine, most of the diet related heart cases had normal taurine levels.
Champion foods financed a very short duration study (20 weeks) to try to dispute the legume link, despite evidence showing the average time affected digs were on the diets in question was 4 years.
This information is from a veterinary cardiology session I just attended

Yeah, I just adopted a Doberman mix was looking into kibbles and things in my price range. I have a surprise by how many grain free things there were when they seem to be so many links or at least coincidences linked to DCM. But so many of them “better” kibble options were grain free. I guess it’s good that there’s not any true link between the two. But I guess I’d rather go to the safe not sorry route. But I went with the open farm rawmix ancient grains, and I give her some toppers. I don’t want to take chances to my baby.
Actually, funny enough I was doing my own kibble researches and watching some past videos and decided on that food got it from the store. Came home and this channel then just release the best dog kibble for the year. I was like I really hope this food is on that list lol

Strange. My dog has an enlarged heart since he was very young. I never fed him grain free food. Now he coughs a lot whenever he plays too hard for his heart to pump. I give him chaga mushrooms and it helps a little

Sorry to hear that. I think there’s a lot more at play with DCM than we know.

The problem is when someone buys grain free food thinking that it is the gold standard to have their dog die years before they should because of DCM. Sure not all grain free foods are connected to DCM. I didn't hear about any of this until after my dog died. The kibbles are portrayed as good and healthy for their life. And then they aren't. People end up feeling betrayed and taken advantage of ect. They were trying their best to care for their dog they were doing what is considered common practice. Only to have something develop that is preventable in their dog. It's rough. So yeah I'm not going to buy "grain free" dog food anymore. I'm not feeding mostly kibble anymore. This is what woke me up to dog nutrition.

What do you think about supplementing dogs taurine a few hours prior to feeding any kind of food, gf or not? A cat i had in the 80s had some form of heart failure, was probably cardiomyopathy and due to the food.

I make everybody mad, because I offend the kibble feeders and the raw feeders because I don’t follow any 1 philosophy 100%. This morning, I reach in my freezer, only to realize I have zero muscular organ meat on-hand, so, I am feeding a PMR meal without it, and using Dr. Harvey’s veg-to-bowl and Paradigm base mixes all in one meal.

Well, very simple. They have heart issues because they’re eating processed food, which is kibble you eat McDonald’s every day and see what happens to your heart.

My 2 Shepsky's get one egg each a day, I feed raw, I feed Honest Kitchen Grain Free clusters...I rotate the foods. I do grain free as one of my dogs has terrible gas (like, wakes me up it is so stinky) and I figured it out to be due to grains. My last dog, a yellow lab, M, 80lbs lived to be 16 so I will stick to my approach.
