I have owned two 911s and three 986s. I currently have a 911C4S and a 986S. I drive the boxster mostly by choice because it is more fun. My previous boxster was traded in on my current 986S it had 260k miles at trade and ran perfectly beyond being ready for its second clutch. Find the boxster you like and enjoy it with pride and confidence, it humors me how when I pass a 911 most of them. Look down their nose at you and I think “well if I were in my C4S they’d high five me and smile” as I drive the more fun of the two.

I just purchased a 2002 with 75k miles. So looking forward to using it.

Just bought my year 2000 Boxter S this past September with only 33,500 km on it. It looks and drives like a brand new car. I paid a bit of a premium compared to other cars due to the low mileage and pristine condition of the car but that being said i wouldn't have been able to buy the cheapest domestic ( North American ) car you could find with mileage that low for what I paid.

I bought a 2000 BOXSTER in 2021 and I have never regretted it. Stored away for winter and counting the days to hit the road. Good review and summation of a wonderful and fun car.

I'm immensely jealous, they've aged so well. Enjoy summer 2023

Got a boxster S 2006 in 2019, and can't imagine storing away your Porsche!!? and counting the days!! . Especially living in Hawaii, 24..7 year round top down weather , its paradise driving, even inthe rain. My boxster is like a excited dog begging for me to go out cruising everywhere. Aloha from Hawaii MK.

you are so lucky. i bought mine last September. drove it for about a month and then had to store it. technically the snow will all be gone by April but I need to wait until all the streets are cleaned of the gravel they use in the winter so likely mid May before I will get it out again. you know what they say? absence makes the heart fonder@@MK-su6eg

Nice! I have a 2000 Boxster S. I especially like it around 9:00 when you pronounce Porsche correctly -- two syllables.

Nice video as always..... Half a 911, from seats forward is a good description.

    • @JohnsGarageIreland
      @JohnsGarageIreland  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Funny thing is I don't think it's half the car though, it's got the measure of the 911 especially for a normal driver on public roads. You push it further towards it's limits and not be punished.

@@JohnsGarageIreland ah yeah...it's got about a tenth of the desirability though 🙂

@@peakseamus and there in lies the problem, it depends what you value I suppose.

I’ve always longed for a 911, but having driven both and given the 911 is over twice the price and the Boxster is convertible. I really enjoy summer days with the hood down. Give me a Boxster and another classic than just a 911. Just my opinion

I'll tell you, man- they honestly CAN be run on a budget. Absolutely. I couldn't afford to keep mine if not.
The budget is doing most of your own work, lol.
I've had my 98 for coming up on a decade now, and it's been in a shop exactly twice. Once trying to hunt down a weird issue, and once getting the top replaced.
I handle all the other maintenance and repairs. And many of the parts aren't even particularly expensive if you're willing to do the hunting.
I think the worst part is that even a lot of mechanics think these cars run on magic smoke or something. My Boxster has honestly been one of the easiest cars to work on I've owned. Almost everything is a lot more accessible than you might think. It's super well designed.
Just remember that there's one weird triple-square bit you'll need to handle a single transmission bolt if you go to do your clutch. I think the engineers threw that in just for a laugh. 🤣🤣🤣

Really wanted a 986 but ended up with a Z4M roadster for similar money. I still want a 986 though, and will eventually pick up an early model with a dual row IMS. Great video, Thanks from Canada.

Excellent cars, I own a '97, #500. It is my daily drive not a garage Queen. A mid engine Porsche roadster is as good as it gets.

There's a misconception that the Boxster's handling is so sure handed and won't have you going side ways like the 911. At the limit you must respect the handling parameters of the mid-engine design. The Boxster can experience snap oversteer at the limit.

Great review, I like the fact it dosnt have air con. One less thing to go wrong, if it’s not raining I have the hood down moist of the time, even in the winter, the heater is good. I think there great value give.l an equivalent 911 would be more than twice the price and I love convertibles.

Thays very true about the reliability being better without certain options. The value is still great on these without a doubt. What else could you buy with a good badge and ownership experience at that price

The Boxster 986 (I have the 3.2 S) is actually MORE "driver focused" than the 996 911 imo...
Being mid-engine, lighter weight etc. 😊

    It’s pronounced
    Poor-sha.
It is a two syllable word, OKAY?

I realized that the Boxster (986) was, almost by accident, what the 911 SHOULD have been (mid engine); THIS is why we buy Boosters.
