I have a 2003 base. Owned for 5 years. Awesome car. Replaced the water pump and changed the oil. 81,000 miles so far. Plus it helps to live in Texas!

I've had a 01 986 for a year and love it. I've done new coils, plugs water pump stat, serpentine belt, gearbox service and the list goes on. Not that anything had failed but preventative known issues. I have a BMW 530i wagon also which is more practical but I find myself always taking the Porsche if go away. Here in NZ there are some great roads and therefore the Boxster shines and who cares if have to put up with a bit more noise, all part of the fun.

Great summary and video about the base B, few out there, as the majority are about the S. Just wanted to note that cars involved in lawsuit with P in USA were model year 2001-2005 Boxsters. Not that other model years are not immuned. It becomes a risk assessment thing when buying pre-owned.

RIP to this car in January of 2021, if you know you know, lol. Then again it found a new owner as a salvage restoration, so there's always a rainbow!

Biggest and best difference for me is that you can drive it without a roof. Which when the weather is dry can't be beat. Or you can have the roof up. Two cars in one almost.

I don't think you need to compare it to a 911, but instead what else you can buy under £10k that is comparable. To me, there isn't much that is. I may be biased but I prefer the pre facelift look. Clear lenses were just done to make it look more modern, I'm a fan of the ambers as it was originally designed.
They're amazing value for money, I can't recommend them enough. I'd never driven one until I owned one, and they handle so much better than I expected.🙂

I’ve got a 3.4 987 s. They are great drivers’ cars and I’ll be driving mine over 3000ks in the next 3 days.

I know it is pretty darn fast because I have the 2.5L NA 99’ 986S triptronic n the car is a BEAST! Granted I have some work done to the transmission(GT3 parts) to be a 2.5L flat six this things rips darn near everything else to shreds!

I have a 986 S and a 996.2 ..you would think that I would like the 996 a lot better but I really don't. I will totally agree with your opinion. The 911 is definitely a GT car and I love the fact that it has a lot of room. I am a little claustrophobic in the Boxster. But when I take that top down. And I wind that 3.2 up going through the mountains it's pretty special. Now my Boxster has a complete suspension upgrade and a tune so it's a well sorted out car. My 996 also has the suspension upgraded... I am fearless in any corner with that car. I would be very hard-pressed to have to pick between the two of them. And I'm very satisfied to live with these two cars for the rest of my life. The one thing I would disagree with is that the build quality is not as good. I owned a 911sc and I think these cars are built just as well. Can't go wrong with either car for the money that you would spend on one.😊

The 996 911s actually jumped up in value very recently. You’re now looking anywhere from 20k- 40k USD for good examples

Looks like you need to lower the seating position , think you have it up ; it makes all the difference
