People keep asking to turn it into an jump jet carrier. The fact the ship was originally designed around to support Harrier jump jets. But Australia LHD is specifically designed to support helicopters for amphibious assault ship to give Australia army an offshore offensive capability. The F35B has short range a small payload. For the LHD it would cause a internal redesign to support spare parts fuel and bombs and missiles making the ship lose most of it's eqwipment for LHD amphibious assault for army offshore offensive capability. With new hypersonic long range missiles been developed by several countries is making, even The US strike carrier group is vulnerable. Due to the long range strike capability. New capabilities making carrier to stay further out and not be able to bring aircraft in strike range. The F35B has half the range of F35C and F35A varent. It would be a waist of money for Australia to go for a capability that can't deliver. Attack helicopters can provide air cover for troops on the ground during an amphibious assault as good as any jump jet could. That's why Australia government and defence department refused to make a jump jet carrier. And rather looking at other capabilities such as nuclear powerd submarines. Destroyers and frigates and long range missile capability to take out targets over the horizon without the need of combat fighter jets. RAAF has fighter jets and drones and deploy them where they can. Australia is an island continent surrounded by ocean. Thousands of milies away from other countries. Carrier is an easier target than a nuclear powerd submarine would be.if needed fast jet coverage. Australia can deploy aircraft of other bases arround the pacific with tankers.
So "Under used" by the Aussies and no Real Defensive systems like US Navy LHD's have to defend against enemies like the Chicoms !!! USN ships have 2 - ESSM, 2 - RAM, 2- 20mm CIWS systems for Defense plus their 1 - CG, 3 to 4 DDGs !!! 👍 Sgt, Semper Fi
I'm a Aussie, basically I think we need 15 of these class vessel with spiffy F-35b decks constructed on them, really my objective is to have 15 battalion in a amphibious force to measure up to the thistle star of the five star general, I like we can mobilize a force ,I just think you need the three democratic regiment the thistle knights have as a bench mark of taking it seriously, I'd like to see a chain of amphibious vessel around Australia in relay with each other to practice troop shifting from vessel to vessel, I believe in 5 lieutenant general democraticlly that's 15 yes the thistle knights
I like to challenge people's thinking defensively, I'm emotional control of non political rudimentary order of command, The pentadecagon federation structure is 15 Microstate of equal square km mass that intercept centrally union jack path of least resistance relitive to time relitive to motion an stationary space, each Microstate has 15 seats of equal in square km mass volume, overlapping this is 3 patchwork commissions with 75 seats each commission every 3 seats of a localized area is three commission for democratic overview locally an federally, So the lieutenant general with 45,000 troops gets three Microstate, their major general get a Microstate each with their 15,000 equivalent to thistle knights numbers of three democratic regiment, their major with 5,000 troops get a patchwork commission of Microstate of 5 seats for democratic overview of the Microstate, their lieutenant get a seat each with 1,000 troops, then the seat break down to 25 equal size patches the captain with their company of 200 get 5 patches an their Sargent of 40 troop platoon get a patch that's just to award commanding officer jurisdiction, yet in the war situation two lieutenant general become war front fighters with tweezers action while three other lieutenant generals take commission democratic overview, I want each major general working with a amphibious vessel
I want the pentadecagon war federation to be 15 time the Thistle knights in power of troop numbers an I for each Microstate Thistle knights equivalent outfit I want one amphibious vessel that harbor one fifteenth of that force at any one given time
I want one 15 of every Microstate army to be a applicable contingency mobilized that way that the other 14 battalion can be mobilized other ways yet I totally I want a mobilized for the size of the Thistle knights
I want it so three amphibious vessel from three different commission can be mobilized together for anti bias an anti prejudice protocol take our law to the disturbance that there'd be 5 unit of incontrovertible fact finding process with enough legitimate witness from each commission in the vessels to take the Democratic fight to the disturbance
With the three amphibious vessels of three commission the federation democratic system of government can be taken with them for the due procedure of that to treat international conflict as civilly civilized as possible

Excellent ships.
Thank you Australian Navy
Very well researched nicely made
Great video😊
Glad you enjoyed

It needs more defensive armament. I think the phalanx is a good start.

Is this two all they have/ That's hardly a deterent and they need about 5 at least!/ But they need to have about an extra 15 knots in speed too!
Along with HMAS Choules a 16,000t LSD, the ships can carry an armoured brigade which is good for a country with such a relatively small population.
