    Fun fact: Spanish Navy Juan Carlos I (one ship) and Royal Australian Navy Canberra (two ships) are essentially the same class particularized for each navy requirements. And there is a fourth unit coming soon: Turkish Navy Anadolu, also built for Turkey's own specs.

      Are you sure tho?

    • @diegoferreiro9478
      @diegoferreiro9478 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Completely.
      This class has been designed by Spanish shipbuilding company Navantia, which built the Juan Carlos I for the Spanish Navy at Ferrol shipyard.
      Later Navantia was awarded with the two ship Adelaide class for the Australian Navy. The contract issued that part of the construction should be made in Australia which resulted that the hulls were built in Ferrol and carried to Australia for completion.
      Further later Turkey acquired the design for its own Anadolu project which has been built in Turkish shipyards and that is currently commissioning now.
      Each country has its own specs, particularly related to equipment and services (i.e. the Australian deck is lighter because the Australian Navy did not consider the operation of the F-35B, even they kept the Sky jump ).

    When in the Marines we called these ships "gator freighters" and I've been on LHA, LPD, LKA,LST, and many others of the US Navy ships Served from 75 to 87. Also Rode on a few forgein gator freighters.

      I Loved and miss the Old LST's nothing better than running them right up to the shore and offloading. It is a shame they decommissioned them and sold off to scrap. Long Live the Gator Navy !!! Did 3 Med Floats onboard the LST 1193 FairFax County and when she was sold off to the Royal Australian Navy HMS Manoora L52 got to go aboard and see her one more time at Fleet Week in San Francisco what a surreal experience that was seeing all the differences but being the same hull !

    Info to include on update, LHD-6 burned at the pier, bon home richard was decommissioned, struck from naval registry and scrapped. LHA-6 class. Lha 6 and 7 have no well deck and are optimized for aircraft operations. Lhd-8 and on have well decks as well as ballast systems to lower ship to flood well deck areas.

      @tomasthomas8563 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LHD-8 is gas turbine or electric motor driven. This is basically the same engineering plant as the LHA-6 class.

    So the Camberra Class (2014), a copy of the Spanish Juan Carlos I (for Australia but designed & made by Navantia) is considered by you the 3d? And the Spanish warship (2010) the 4th ...is fantastic 😀 . Next time try with F-100 Frigates and Hobart class ..the same history for sure.
    I am sorry, both with spanish blood and a copy of these Armada ships , as the frigates, logistic support ships, etc..

    Naval acronyms 101: In terms of displacement 't' stands for 'tons'; and in terms of speed, 'kt' means 'knots'. Furthermore, if you describe the plane F-35B as 'short take off and vertical landing' there is no need to say 'STOVL' next as it is redundant.

    How did you not rate the Mistral class higher… you need to see its propulsion system you would’ve rated it higher not to mention it’s well deck and it’s interoperability with LCACs as France did not operate LCACs they developed the BPCs which is probably better than the hovercraft design of the LCACs

      Similar but different, Canberra is heavier thus slightly slower and has differences in the internal layout, the Anadolu is closer in weight to the Juan Carlos not sure of any internal differences between those two. Thus the Canberra and Juan Carlos are different listings.

    • @nanii414
      @nanii414 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A 5-inch gun's effective range renders it barely useful in modern amphibious opns:
      Cheap shorebased (enemy) AShM doctrinally-motivated staging 12-13nmi offshore ('over the horizon') decades ago.
      After a landing is secured, the ship can move closer, but any need for its 5-inch gun will have diminished.
