I read a lot of the forum and you tube know it alls talking about what a horrible filter the kn is. How bad it sucks at not stopping dirt. I just tore my engine down at 196000 miles to replace valve seals and fix other leaks. I was astonished that there was absolutely no wear on the valve stems, cylinder bores or valve buckets. Most of those miles were driven in the gulf coast area, lot of silica sand and other abrasives . The kn works perfectly fine when serviced properly .

This video seems to illustrate that you're getting gains from cold air intakes and appreciate that you've created this video. I'm wondering about your comment about tuning and the gains you made. Before installing the various intakes, what tune did you complete on that engine in order to get the gains initially, and the subsequent gains during the intake tests?
Mike, initially this truck was tuned with UpRev software. th-cam.com/video/-zaZPPkG_PU/w-d-xo.html It had a K&N drop in as the only mod. We did not re-tune during any of these intake tests.
I know my 19 frontier makes more than that bone stock so that’s interesting, not sure what year that truck is lol it could be anywhere between like 10-20 based on the sightly updated headlights.
@@z1off-road ah ya that could be what’s going on. Idk I’ve never dynoed but the specs say at least 268 I believe. So they must be referring to crank power. Which is sad to know I’m making less than I thought.

Both really with the right parts. For some too much noise is less than ideal so something with the most gains but minimal noise increase may be ideal so we hope the video helps our users make the most informed decisions. When you drive a stock frontier compared to one with a good intake, exhaust and a tune it’s a night and day difference.
does volant still use the donaldson powercore filter? they are used on heavy truck and can take some serious dust abuse, i think the service interval is 100,000 kms or somthng crazy.
It had been previously tuned with only a K&N drop in filter. No other mods, completely stock other than the tune and these intakes we tested with. For this test we ran the baseline run and tested all intakes the same day. Nothing else was done to manipulate or achieve #'s for the test. The OG tune video is here th-cam.com/video/-zaZPPkG_PU/w-d-xo.html
Yes, though a little quieter the volant is built very well, performs pretty good and offers great filtration with options on filter type. Inspection window is a plus but it's not quite water tight. When run on trucks that still have wheel well liners the typical service interval is wider than that of open element filters and the cold air sourced through the fender is better for performance. If you did want to attach a snorkel you can which you cannot do with an open element style.
The air raid on your site for $269. Does that attach to the factory intake tubing unlike the others that have their own piping? I’m looking for a cone filter as it’ll be easier to replace than my slightly broken factory box. It’s a 17 frontier 4.0. Thanks

Why is the hp less with aftermarket intake?
We're reporting HP and TQ on a chassis dyno which is measured at the tire after drivetrain loss; not at the crank like vehicle manufacturers advertise. The key thing to keep in mind here is we are just using the dyno as a tool to measure each compared to the baseline for measurable gains or losses.
And normally there is a large difference between the mfg’s no drivetrain #’s and a RW Dyno.
Do you have a graph that shows all these on one place compared to stock?
Great video
This video seems to illustrate that you're getting gains from cold air intakes and appreciate that you've created this video. I'm wondering about your comment about tuning and the gains you made. Before installing the various intakes, what tune did you complete on that engine in order to get the gains initially, and the subsequent gains during the intake tests?
Mike, initially this truck was tuned with UpRev software. th-cam.com/video/-zaZPPkG_PU/w-d-xo.html It had a K&N drop in as the only mod. We did not re-tune during any of these intake tests.
@@z1off-road Okay, guys, ya sold me on the UpRev, but I need the NISMO CAI before I can buy that tune .. back order?! Dang it!
I know my 19 frontier makes more than that bone stock so that’s interesting, not sure what year that truck is lol it could be anywhere between like 10-20 based on the sightly updated headlights.
making more at the tire or crankshaft?
@@z1off-road ah ya that could be what’s going on. Idk I’ve never dynoed but the specs say at least 268 I believe. So they must be referring to crank power. Which is sad to know I’m making less than I thought.
Sorry for the question but I am new to nissan Frontier, just pick up an on 6 with 37k Miles, 1 owner "My Oldest Uncle"
My question is, what's the point of this upgrade is it more horsepower? Better Sound?
Also How do i get this trucked tuned? Thanks for your reply to these Newbie Questions.
Both really with the right parts. For some too much noise is less than ideal so something with the most gains but minimal noise increase may be ideal so we hope the video helps our users make the most informed decisions. When you drive a stock frontier compared to one with a good intake, exhaust and a tune it’s a night and day difference.
Anyone know of we have to get a tune after getting new intake and exhaust? I got a Volant intake and MBRP exhaust.
What was the Volant part number?
does volant still use the donaldson powercore filter? they are used on heavy truck and can take some serious dust abuse, i think the service interval is 100,000 kms or somthng crazy.
didn't notice any 3rd party branding on it, will check next time we have our hands on one.
@@z1off-road I had a volant intake box for my jetta, I was pleasantly suprised to see mine was a Donaldson.
You said the truck used for this video already had a tune. Anything else don't to it? What all was don't to get the numbers it had?
It had been previously tuned with only a K&N drop in filter. No other mods, completely stock other than the tune and these intakes we tested with. For this test we ran the baseline run and tested all intakes the same day. Nothing else was done to manipulate or achieve #'s for the test. The OG tune video is here th-cam.com/video/-zaZPPkG_PU/w-d-xo.html
Does the afe being a inclosed cold air intake benefit anything in anyway vs a non enclosed one?
Yes, though a little quieter the volant is built very well, performs pretty good and offers great filtration with options on filter type. Inspection window is a plus but it's not quite water tight. When run on trucks that still have wheel well liners the typical service interval is wider than that of open element filters and the cold air sourced through the fender is better for performance. If you did want to attach a snorkel you can which you cannot do with an open element style.
I just noticed the guys name is Brian and that’s my name and it was made on April 15 which is my birthday. Kinda interesting to me.
Need some reccs for exhaust now 👍👍
Coming soon!
The air raid on your site for $269. Does that attach to the factory intake tubing unlike the others that have their own piping? I’m looking for a cone filter as it’ll be easier to replace than my slightly broken factory box. It’s a 17 frontier 4.0. Thanks
@A K it attaches to the factory hose.
When will we hear about which exhaust to use on the new 2020 Frontier engine.
We're working on an exhaust shootout. Currently 2020 clients are modifying the exhaust to fit.
