Ridgeline is a different class of truck that shouldn't be compared to Any of the trucks , its a Class of its own ! I call it " The Japanese Elcamino" Remember the Chevy Elcamino or the Ford Ranchero ! Samething !! There in a Class of their own ! Comfortable and road worthy Being a long time Fan of the CHEVY Elcamino I understood the Ridgeline ,,,, its a class on its own
I'm no Nissan fan but the Ridgeline doesn't have a two speed transfer case, so you are comparing apples and oranges. That being said, between the two I'd take the Honda !
I drove them Both Toyota and the Nissan 2024 And I was shocked. I like the Nissan better. It will last longer.
Simplicity goes a long ways . Just get a used Toyota Tacoma But you'll pay more than a brand new 2024 Nissan, 4X . I don't know what Toyota was thinking putting all that garbage underneath the hood? But I guess they want to turn this all into Beta's Girlyman l o l.😂
I test drove both and preferred the Honda. It was more comfortable, had a tighter turning radius and the interior was more plush. The thing I hated about the Nissan was how heavy it was using the steering wheel.

My kind of vehicle. I don't need or want "the latest tech". My car is not a game or toy. I need it to last. Also, I need the repair bills to be low once it's out of warranty.
Great points but I'll have to add ease of maintenance. IDK about 2020+ but in the D40 drive lines there is no electronics to update after service, it's a simple drain and fill.
I think the 2020+ still have open diffs so if someone were to add a diff breather it'll make it easy to service and will eliminate the rear axle seal problem when the factory breathers get clogged.
All in all the Frontiers are work horses and they are what a truck is supposed to be, basic, reliable and rugged.
I couldn't agree more ! This is why all 3 of my vehicles are over a decade old. 2011 RAM, 2012 Subaru and a 2011 Nissan. All 3 are reliable and have over 150k miles. RAM has over 250k !

As a single man who just wants a reliable 4WD basic truck, the frontier was perfect for me. very happy with it so far.
The Nissan V6 will be running years well after the four cylinders of any of the competition .

I love it when "experts"/"critics" bash(ed) the last Gen. Frontier's "outdated looks and design". "Stale after 15 years, blah blah blah." What I saw? Here's a proven, durable truck over many many years. All the big issues ironed out. No shortage of parts when the occasional repair comes 10 years from now.
Enjoy your overly-complex, overly-engineered (and possibly under-powered) turbo four-bangers. I just wanted a truck. I wasn't hoping to win any beauty contests. Cheers!
As much as I love Toyota, I would definitely choose a Frontier for the the V6 engine. I just don't trust turbos on small gasoline engines; I do believe Toyota is making a big mistake with their current engine choices for their trucks.
That's my problem. I'm thinking Nissan or Ford. I don't trust Jeep or Chevy
Toyota is the king with Nissan close behind! Toyota has the most cars on the road sold in the last 20 years proven through service records then add in the ones who didn’t use the dealer etc lol
I’ve seen many Ecoboost engines with several hundred thousand miles on the odometer. I would trust Toyota to build one at least as reliable.

@@sumdude2247It can. But, you have to disable it each time you start the engine. Although there are simple aftermarket items available to permanently disable the feature.
I just bought a Pro4X and I can’t be happier even after driving a Tacoma for the last 5 years. It’s so much more comfortable. For what you get with the Pro4X the others can’t match at that price. All the other “off road” versions are well into the $50k mark
Price/Quality is huge for the Nissans. I got my '23 P4X for 5k off MSRP a month ago. The overall price was better than many 2WD base model trucks.
When I was getting an estimate for the 24 pro 4x, and some sales rep was trying to sell me a ram 1500 big horn with a v6.
He was like "They're great! They sell like hot cakes. Our lot is full of them! The frontiers though, we only have 2. No body buys them."
I said, "That's all I need to know, get me the paperwork for my frontier." 😂
I just test drove a new Pro4x. There was a lot i liked about it. For me. The deal breaker was the back seat. I wouldnt want to seat there much longer than a short trip to the grocery store. If theyd fix the back seat Id buy one. Especially at the cost compared to a Ridgeline or Taco.

I was driving a 1980s Nissan Hardbody when I was young. It was a manual. It's how I learned to drive a manual. It had NO POWER steering. I learned to drive and steer it just fine. My point is that on one hand people complain about car prices, so they have to lease and get into perpetual payments, and on the other hand they want telescoping steering wheels, heated seats, etc.
Meanwhile, the average person doesn't have 400 bucks in the bank to cover an emergency. What would happen if a car company made a high quality car based on 2000 technology and sold it for under 18k? I think it can be done if they got rid of car play, e-brakes, electric windows, and all the rest. Imagine being able to drive a solid car that you can keep well beyond when you pay it off so that you can have 10 years or more of no car payments and money to go on a vacation or even tell your boss to screw himself.
Agree. I had a 1987 4x4 Hardbody standard cab with a bench seat, a manual transmission, manual lock hubs, V6...dozens of trips to Moab. 330,000 miles when we parted ways. Best truck I ever owned. Utility over show any day.

I thought the manufacturers hit the 'balance' of tech vs. manual around 2000-2005. Since then its been how much tech can you add and how many electro-mechanical functions can you turn into electronic gizmos that add no value.

I love my 2024 pro4x , such a solid truck ! Although could turn alittle tighter. Other than that it's a awesome truck ! It's fast and handles great with no squeaks or rattles !
The new Frontier turns on a dime compared to the old model. Just traded in my 2012 for a 2024. HUGE improvement in turning radius.

The 22 Frontier SV 4x4 I just bought replaces an old Mazda B2300 - manual everything (no PS). So, the steering in the Nissan is easy. I can turn the wheel with one finger. I like everything on the Nissan so far.

Putting turbo chargers in truck engines makes no sense, cant believe Toyota ruined the Tundra and Tacos by doing this, i hope Nissan does not mess Frontier up, if it aint broke dont fix it

I'm on my second Frontier. First was a 2012 SL Crew Cab Long bed. 160K miles and bulletproof. That truck was utilitarian by todays standards, but its reliability was second to none. Paint and interior were still pristine. Dealer gave me top dollar on a trade for my new 2024 SV Crew Cab 4x4 long bed with all the bells and whistles. What a beautiful truck. Feels heavy and solid on the road. Way better than the 2012. The V6 and drivetrain are silky smooth and effortless. That engine will be humming along long after the 4-bangers in the competition have bit the dust. To me, it's mindboggling Toyota ditched their V6 for a 4-banger. While they have good HP and torque numbers, a review from a major publication said the engine was noisy and didn't sound happy working so hard. Ridgeline? Passport with a truck bed. No thanks. Soccer mom vehicle.
Turbo engines canNOT be done cheaply, yet they keep getting squeezed into entry level platforms. Turbos are nice when they're new, but get a few years & miles on them and the problems start to show. And that isn't even addressing the Direct Injection nightmares (even with NA platforms). Turbos have more blowby, especially with the modern low-pressure piston rings, which means more carbon buildup on the valves, which means more expensive cleanings every 30K OR much more expensive engine tear-downs just outside of warranty.
You have to take care of a turbo motor better. 1 water/methanol injection. Water injection significantly reduces the under hood temps of turbo engines and it actually helps deal with the carbon build up by “ steam cleaning” the intake side of things.
2 use of high quality synthetic motor oil is a must. So many buy the cheapest crap they can get, don’t. Turbos spin at around 100,000 RPMs at idle and run hard the oil coming out looks like coffee loaded with creamer. Change the oil early and often.
3 proper thermal cycles, pre warming them is a good thing to prolong engine life additionally letting it idle for a while after you stop is very good. This allows tbe turbo to spool down with oil running through it. The biggest issue today is the use of aluminum blocks on high pressure turbo engines. The strongest turbo engines used old iron block construction. They could survive the high pressures they use today. But if you take care of a turbo engine the right way it will last.

I sat in the back seats of Tacoma, Colorado, and Frontier (May 2024). The Frontier was the most comfortable by far.
I don’t see all the negatives as bad. I own a 23 frontier and it does everything I need just fine.
I prefer the heavier hydraulic steering also, and it's now becoming a rarity. Gladiator and Ridgeline have the most rear seat leg room in the midsize class because their platforms are based on SUVs. If I carried rear passengers on a regular basis I would not choose any midsize pickup though. The Ridgeline doesn't really appeal to me mainly because of it's exterior design aesthetics; but would be a good choice for a lot of consumers based on intended usage. I own a 2006 Frontier (bought new) and 'owned' a 21 Gladiator...
The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have a manual transmission option.
I have a manual Tacoma, and wish I had an auto.
I had a 2005 Taco with the 6 spd Manual and hated the long shift throws and narrow shift gates with missed shifts. Toyota used to make a wonderful 5 spd that was a dream to live with but the 6 spd is trash.@@richarde1355
Does radar adaptive cruise control work with a manual transmission? I can't understand how that would work.
@@CommanderCronusI've only seen it on 1 vehicle (I believe it was a Kia forte gt manual) and it only works at highway speeds and as soon as you push in the clutch it shut off

Seems like a good truck that should last the test of time. Shame it doesn’t come with a manual gearbox.
Yep wide ratio seven speed manual would be awesome in it. I would prefer that over the nine speed auto in mine.
They would kill the competition if they made a manual Frontier.
The number one drawback is the same in every midsize pickup truck. My brother has a Tacoma it’s no more roomy in the back than my Frontier. Plus the TRD Pro and the Raptor are significantly more money especially the raptor close to 20 grand more. The Jeep Rubicon similarly equipped is close to 20 grand more as well. Compare apples to apples. Before I made my purchase I drove them all and priced them all. The Frontier PRO4X came out on top not to mention it’s the best on asphalt and smoothest riding truck of them all.
Change for the sake of change is not the same as improvement. An entry level 3.0 four cylinder engine with about 200bhp and a manual transmission would be nice. When these are used as work trucks, they can spend as much as 3 hours a day idling in heat or freezing cold.
I would choose Nissan Frontier! The Honda Ridgeline is too much like a car.

Ridgeline is like a car because it IS a car. Well, more specifically a minivan, but Honda shares platforms between the car and minivan/suv line.
It's a unibody so it really is. Just like the Ford Maverick is not a truck it is just a small car in a costume.
500lb more payload, tho. Oh, and wider bed, longer bed (short bed v short bed) too. Wider, bigger interior.

The Ridgeline is really car-like with its unibody construction. It drives and rides really well but has minimal ground clearance. The Frontier is classic with its fully boxed frame and leaf springs. It’s more capable than the Ridgeline. It depends on what you need out of your truck. Both are great with their V6 engines. The Colorado on the other hand has a very course turbo 4 cylinder. It’s not refined. It looks modern but the interior is really cheap except for the big screen. The Frontier feels slightly roomier than the Colorado and is also quieter but otherwise they drive and ride similar minus the engine difference. The V6 is far better and more refined.
I wish they make a smaller pick-up truck.

I happy with my 2024 frontier it came fully loaded..the colorado/ canyon loaded would have been 10-12 thousand more
These are the perfect trucks to buy if you don’t need to tow a lot or need to be a luxury vehicle. Well built vehicle.
6500lbs. Isn’t horrible especially for the segment. No troubles with my tractor or RZR.
Still driving my 25k tax included 074x4 crew cab long bed frontier, came with a sprayed in bed liner, tailgate extender, tow package. Only 98 k miles, OE brakes. Only complaint is the turning radius. Plan on keeping it forever.😊
with technology on the rise and installed leads to unwanted features being shoved down your throat and more Point of Failures , im a big Tacoma fan (4x4 2015 original owner) and still and Will hold on to my Base modifide suspension Tacoma BUT if i ever decide to get a second truck Nissan Frontier is first on my List ! I've own Nissan trucks in the past and know their reliability and for them sticking to what works and still works, its a no brainer !
A lot of the Tacoma's popularity was from having no serious competition for a very long time. Frontier is now the winner going forward in my opinion. Absolutely hang onto your Tacoma for as long as possible because Toyota has lost their way now. I think this Frontier is what the new Tacoma SHOULD have been like. Nobody asked for $15,000 dollars of gimmicks so they can take their hybrid truck to their bay area job and occasionally a KOA.
Im looking for a replacement for my 400k mile dodge dakota, not to fond of turbo 4 cylinders in trucks, Nissan is just about the only truck which offers a v6

I have a ‘23 sr5 that’s pretty optioned out and it’s was $10K less than that “out the door taxes, fees and dealer junk they tried to toss in” and I bought it in a more turbulent time for car prices. So you are correct those vehicles need to rot right where they set.
I've looked in the back seats of the Chevy Colorado and the Ford Ranger and the Nissan Frontier has more room. Infact it's camparable to the Toyota Tacoma.

I'm considering a Pro4x. This is surprising me because I had an 02 Xterra than made me swear off the Nissan brand due to its horrible steering and reliability. Is the Frontier's steering really that bad? I currently drive a 2012 Tundra, but can't stomach the new Taco.
I have a 2024 s 4x4. Its my 2nd frontire and i love it. As long as they dont go to a turbo ill never buy nothing else

Despite its few shortcomings, I still bought a 2022 Frontier SV with the Premium Package. I much preferred this over anything else I looked at, even SUV's. I wanted leather and a gas engine, and the Frontier was the only vehicle I could find equipped like this that I wanted to spend my money on. I really miss not having Memory for the drivers' seat tho. 😕
If Nissan really wanted to show the competition how to make a proper truck, take 6 inches out of the bed and put it into the 2nd row, then make the rear seat adjustable for a "SUV" comfortable seating position. Otherwise, why does any OEM have a Crew Cab 2nd row that can only be used for kids???
I don't need a telescoping column. In fact, i have never had a car with it. Just position yourself differently. I really do not understand the need. It's just money down the toilet. Not including it helps to keep the price low, and that is more important.

who cares about "off road potential" if you are not off roading?
Then why does everyone buying a Tesla crow about the "mAsSiVe ToRqUe & Hersprs!" of electric when they are not race car drivers?
Many consider fire roads as off-road. 1/3 or more of the state of Vermont turns into a mudball in the spring where you NEED that "offroad potential" just to get to work or a gallon of milk. Similar story in many rural states.
Who cares about city road manners and compact exterior dimensions if you only go to the city once a year?
So only people who don't offroad buy nissans?
I heard the alternator is on the bottom of the engine which makes if very easy to get sand and water in which of course means it is more likely to go out. Can anyone confirm this?

Difference between 2022 and 2023 Frontiers is the steering which was updated from hydraulic power steering to engine speed sensitive hydraulic power steering and at low speed turn I was pleasantly surprised I got none of that reviews of heavy steering.
After 7 new Dodge/Rams since 2007, 4 of them 2500 4x4/Cummins I traded my 2018 2500/Cummins for a Tactical green 4x4 SV with convience and tech group. I have 2750 miles on my new Datsun and it is in the shop with issues. The cloth on the front seat has separated from the seat bottom. The rep looked at it on 01/12/22 and approved a new seat.The seat has a slight rock from the play in the electric adjuster linkage. The transmission has surging issues ever since they idled it up to eliminate the rattle/harmonic vibtration in the sheet metal on the engine with 300 miles on it and something is not jiving, Idon't know maybe it is the throttle body thing communicating with the transmission that it is time to go and it means quick.And that is when a Tervis tumbler of water or whatever it has in it pours all over your center console. The dealer has had me in a rental Rouge since the rep looked at my truck and a rep from the factory has called me on 01/13 and on 01/14. As far as design flawsgo the center console has about as much use as a bread box turned on end , the cup holders will not hold anything unless it is 3 3/8 in diameter and straight sided. The bluetooth dies when you parlk and kill the ignition. If you are on an important phone call and need to finish before switching to your handset, which is not seamless at all then you must finish with the engine running. Nissan took until 2022 to invent the gas powered cell phone, I am sure the Climate Change crowd is going to love that one. The popups that remind you to increase the volume on your connected device and the one that reminds you that"your call history has been updated" are so old at 2700 miles I can't even imagine keeping this truck for that reason alone.They hang on screen for 4 to 5 seconds. I didn't enter into my blue tooth to read, I did it to make a call. Why don't any of you reviewers point out these real world consumer tips. Their is a lot to love about this truck but if you are a dyed in the wool truck buyer like me then these are far more important than the remodel they put on the gen II. I bought this as my retirement vehicle as I am 62yo and chose this truck based on my families good history with the brand. This is my first new Nissan and my first small truck in 45 years.
02/23/24 UPDATE AT 19,350 MILES. After multiple issues and dealership trips I am now on day 2 of truck being in dealership again. Parking pawl replacement along with 2 other service bulletins .Still having blue tooth issues and other glitches.Las trip in the writer told me if the electronics issues persist it would justify a replacement head unit. They have persisted but that was obviously not a true statement as they just want to flash the firmware again. I feel they are just buying time until my warranty expires. Truck has left me stranded 4 times in the last 2.5 months and it seems everyone is baffled. I park it for as little as 20 minutes and come back and it won't start. Acts like a completely dead battery. It won't even start with a 30amp start charger. It took an 80amp charger the third time it happened. Fortunately I have other vehicles to drive but this is becoming old. NISSAN USA makes it clear through the service department that customers are numbers and we are to abide until the warranty expires. I bet then they can find the solution to the problems at my expense. Should have waited on a Tacoma.

I researched the Frontiers by model year for problems when I was looking for a used truck. Their pretty solid from 2016 and newer. The additional miles you might get with the Tacoma are far out weighed by the additional money you would pay. As far as the Ridgeline goes I wouldn't call a vehicle with a timing belt and pulleys a truck.
Does anyone know on these 3.8 v6 Nissan motors, if they have an internal timing chain driven water pump or is it pulley driven by the serpentine belt? If it’s an internal water pump driven by a chain, I’m not interested in buying one as that’s a major job/tear down to replace the water pump.
It’s based on the old 4.0 in most ways just not as bored out. Just about every engine these days uses timing chains as the belts went out around 2012. Unfortunately if its 4.0 based it’s possible subject to the strawberry milkshake

nice to see nissan on the right track.. love the lack of tech and fancy engine gizmos that often fail or break down .. only complain I have is 5 or 6" bed??? hmm makes it useless for my needs ... a 7 or 8" bed would be better and no 4 door cab..
Biggest problem is that the non-4x4 versions of the Frontier are rear wheel drive. I had a 2002 base Frontier, and was a little crazy fish-tailing in the snow. Does anyone drive one of these new ones in the snow? Is there weight back there?
I sat in a new Tacoma. My son and I both over 6’ tall were very uncomfortable in the front seat and nowhere to put our big feet in the back seat.
I went a few days ago and sat in a new Frontier. Not sure where you guys got your opinions because the frontier blew the Tacoma away in comfort and roominess.
The back seats in the Nissan truck have always been small, the only way to make them bigger is if you shorten the bed or make the truck longer itself, which nobody wants. I went from a 2019 Nissan to a 2022 Nissan and honestly I don't use none of the electronic stuff in it as it's completely disabled. I don't like going through menus on the dash. My only complaints with my 2022 Nissan is the electric seat keeps moving on its own and the turning radius still sucks.

It doesn't need to keep up with the competition. It just needs to be good at a good price. The competition's prices are outrageous, especially when considering dealers are not selling them below MSRP. For how long can car companies continue to add toys to cars and drive up the price before people realize the toys are not worth it?

The ONLY Nissans being sold in my area are the Rogue and Altima. There aren't ANY pickups or SUV's being sold here.

Before you buy a truck call your insurance and see what they are worth after you drive them of the lot! Don't pay a penny more because they aren't worth it.
I looked at the Frontier, but I know my vehicles and have noticed that Nissan has so-so quality. I have purchased a higher quality brand, a Honda Ridgeline. 9 months and zero regrets!

Anybody know why Nissan took their excellent manual transmission from us?
According to an article I just read, approx 1.7% of drivers actually opt for a manual anymore and only around 18% of drivers know how to drive one. However, it does seem like more truck owners are asking for manuals so if the demand is there, hopefully more manufactures will offer them..wishful thinking likely.

I guess no one keeps a car long enough to deal with the eventuality of spending thousands to rebuild these computerized things.
I understand that even many big rig drivers now cannot shift a Roadranger, and big fleets have to buy tractors with Allisons because they cannot find qualified drivers otherwise. What would they have done when twin sticks were the only option?

Raise the roof 1 inch higher, I'm always dunking my head from hitting the door frame.
Fix the power button for the drivers side reclining seat every time I exit the truck my thigh is hitting the button very poor design.
Make the Bed a True 5 ft. bed. The bed is 59 '' why NOT 60'' inches ? is beyond me.
Give the backseat serval inches of leg room, why do they refuse to do this after decades is beyond me.

Nissan really needs to put more interior room in their crew cab configuration. Frontier needs much more leg room in the back seats. They should also offer a powerhouse small V8 engine as well that is much better at towing. All the bull shit V4 engines with turbo's is just that. BULL-SHIT!

Dude is saying 50 grand plus trucks are better. I spent 41 grand getting a Pro4X. I can get a 5 thousand dollars lift and still be a better value
