  • A journey from the Sukhumvit MRT station to Chinatown in Bangkok, Thailand. The MRT ride is operated by the Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM). I thought the ride was very efficient and run well!

    The MRT train looks modern and efficient, and I like the platform screen doors. Wat Mangkon Station is nicely decorated with art work and looks modern! 😍 Thank you for sharing this informative and relaxing train ride, AK! 🤗

    I remember I used the extension from Hualamphong to Wat Mangkon on the day when it opened. Must have been in 2018 or 2019. I loved the decorations.
    Especially BTS stations are made of the same brutalistic Thai style architecture, but some MRT stations at least are more traditional Thai.

    It can be adjusted. In the past there were seats but some were removed. To carry more passengers
    The reason for wearing a backpack on the front is because there are gangs of pickpockets from neighboring countries who come in to disguise themselves as tourists and cause trouble. The police have caught many cases. Some escaped and were able to return to their country. Most come from Vietnam and Cambodia.

    Fantastic move by AK to take the BTS train to China Town, the journey if by car would be at least an hour. The ride is pretty smooth and by 4.00pm, AK reached the Wat Mangkon Station 🚉, which housed some art and craft works as well as a large local map essentially for tourists...very useful indeed! Haven't ride on this line yet...thanks AK for bringing us along the entire journeys 🎉😂😅

    Terrific video Ken!! It’s fabulous that you and Johnny have been able to meet up in Bangkok!! Johnny sure lives it there!! I know exactly where you are from my own trips to Thailand! Traffic can be insane! Hey the temp isn’t too bad. Sometimes it’s insanely hot to the point of being a bit overwhelming! I usually stay at the Weston in Bangkok. It’s nice and central and easy to get around to lots of places on foot or on the metro! Have a terrific time Ken!! Cheers!!

    Thank you for this. So many videos just show people riding the MRT and now actually how to use your card and such. Even better is I'll be staying in Chinatown, so this was a perfect video for me to show how I can use my visa and not the ticket machines and wait in line. I see the stations look very similar to how they are in Beijing, Seoul and even the Jubilee line and now Elizabeth lines are in London with the dual doors. I still like the old school subway style ones much better, but these are far more safer for sure. I assume the Airport link and BTS lines allow credit cards like this as well?

      @paoxerox 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Got to be Charles Schwab Visa debit card though....no transaction fees. Others you'll have to pay the fee each transaction. ATM is the best to withdraw at the max (to avoid the fees).

    • @Wanderer_in_the_Desert_Winds
      @Wanderer_in_the_Desert_Winds 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@paoxerox I have the United Explorer card so they also don't have any foreign transaction fees either. For cash, I'm bringing US $ and exchanging it there as Thailand has one of the worst ATM fees (along with your home bank ATM fees), which is generally about $7 per ATM usage with them combined. Bringing US $ and exchanging at the kiosks (though BKK might not the the best) is much better. Just have to make sure the bills are new and not written on as many exchange places won't take them if they are damaged in anyway...

      I saw as you got ready to get off the subway and you pulled your backpack from the floor! Hmm! Did you have your backpack between your legs protecting it that way as you were holding the train bar?? Maybe, if you do not want the backpack on your back then reverse it and place it on your front side of your body! So, that you can protect your backpack and have it close to you instead of being on the floor just beside you!!!😮😮 Besides that the flood is dirty with everyone stepping on and off of the subway!😮

    • @LMays-cu2hp
      @LMays-cu2hp 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, we here in Chicago have transit card. And there is the transit Account App that many people have set up to just tap their cellphone. I use the transit card and add funds at the grocery store.😊

      Finally, your China Town walk was nice!!😅 As you were almost finished walking, I saw the gentleman and his wife/girlfriend in front of you. He, the gentleman, had his backpack reversed and placed on his front part of his body. I take it, he was making sure his items were safe.😊

    Notice Wat Mangkon has (BL 29) next to it for Blue Line whereas Kamphaeng Phet has (BL12) next to it. This is the stop for Chatuchak Weekend Market. Thai names tend to be long hence most Thai people use nicknames with about two or three letters. In this example if someone wants to get to Chatuchak Weekend Market best to use the BL 12 instead of trying to pronounce the name of the station, Kamphaeng Phet. It's the largest outdoor/indoor market in Thailand. I was at the market in mid December 2023 the temperature was around 93 burning up. Anyone goes there best to take an umbrella to shade from the oppressive sun while walking around the outdoor market.

    Always ask for a price when you use taxis , motorcycles, etc and be careful of getting ripped off. Watch out for tour rip-offs , food, con artists and stores! Trains buses maybe boats are ok but still be cautious and ask for a fair price!🇺🇸☘️

    If you come from NYC, you get very spoiled traveling to Asian countries and riding the metro systems which are the best in the world.

      Travelled on the underground services in New York It was very different from Bangkok, very different. Yes, New York underground provides possibilities to travel the entire city (of course not Staten Island), but.... I would not allow myself to consider it as the cleanest system in the world...and sometimes you have fellow passengers who - how should I say - have a rather special kind of attitude.
