- The comforts of home are the goals of most halflings’ lives: a place to settle in peace and quiet, far from marauding monsters and clashing armies; a blazing fire and a generous meal; fine drink and fine conversation. Though some halflings live out their days in remote agricultural communities, others form nomadic bands that travel constantly, lured by the open road and the wide horizon to discover the wonders of new lands and peoples. But even these wanderers love peace, food, hearth, and home, though home might be a wagon jostling along a dirt road or a raft floating downriver.

Back in 2e I always played Halfling theft
I main halfling! It's my absolute favourite, people complain that there isn't a lot of flavour besides "off-brand Hobbit", but my love of Hobbits is where my love for all fantasy started, so I think it's perfect.
And yeah, no rolling nat 1s is really neat.
I'm pretty sure I'm a halfling in real life.

I came here to hear someone go off on how op halfling’s r because of their lucky feature and then came to hear u dissing on them? How dare u?!?!? Lol.
No but seriously y wouldn’t u want to play as a halfling they r op af. Easily one of the top 3 strongest races (in the phb). Mainly because of their lucky feature (especially if crit fails r a thing like u said). That is easily one of the strongest racial features (if not the strongest).
U also don’t have to play a cherry halfling. Play your character how u want. Play a non cherry halfling, play a pacifist Orc, etc. Its your character, build it how u want. U can even give a reason on y your character is like this. Like this is not a good excuse to not want to play as a halfling.
I’ve also played as a halfling twice (well the one I’m playing currently is half human/ half halfling) and I’ve seen a few people play them too. The thing is I don’t main any races (just like a lot of people), they just play a random race and then make a story (again make it interesting and different if u want).
Who cares about flavor when you get to do what no other races can. 😁
For me, going by lore, I just find it hard to see a halfling as an adventurer
Unless of course they have that "hook". That one time adventure. But after that, I can only imagine them retiring.

Meh u can easily make a reason y. Maybe your Character was exiled (which that is a background in far traveler) or something like that idk. It’s just like any other race u have to give a reason on y your character is adventuring otherwise it’s just a boring character cause they have no motivation.
U also don’t have to go exactly with what the book says when u make the character. Make your character how u want. Make a non cherry halfling, a pacifist Orc, etc. Its your character make it interesting (and different if u want).
@@davidstratton696 well it's more than just the reason to be adventuring sometimes. Some times the lore is written in a way that makes it seem like it's totally impossible to have an adventurer of that race, unless of course you break that lore.
Drizzt is a prime example of this.
But for the dark elves.
And an issue with having a canon character that breaks the lore description is, now the lore specifically mentions how that 1 character alone is special.
So now if I, and all other players do the same thing, the lore will be proven false.
@@davidstratton696 I do appreciate your comment. I'm not trying to seem argumentative lol. I just explaining why I have a hard time creating characters of a certain race when the lore says they basically can never be that(the way I would like to see them)
@@sonic-bb Still doesn’t change the fact that u can just play your character how u want. I’ve played as a pacifist Orc (she was also a Barbarian and had no control over her rage and only went crazy when something triggered her to get super angry). That was years ago and now one of my friends also made one as well (he’s playing a mix of 2 of my past characters but didn’t know about the characters when he made it and I love it cause it’s my 2 fave characters).
Having one or a few characters out of the thousands of that race out there be different shouldn’t be a big deal. No reason to change the lore (it’s just there). U should just be able to make your Character how u want without getting pigeonholed. I’ve also played as a non cherry halfling who was a gladiator.
Make your character how u want and u shouldn’t feel pigeonholed is all I’m trying to say.
