True. Calligrapher’s tools can be also acquired by multi-tasking with Monk:Kensei. Forgery Kit would be almost given to you if your background was criminal or spy based.
I still think it's weird that in the official version they gave the mark of scribing gnome as a 'gifted scribe' 1d4 on top of their ability check while using calligrapher's supplies, but not an actual proficiency in calligrapher's supplies (or forgery kit), like in the UA version.
1:00 It's not really a ban to not allow these races in other settings. Just like it's not banning to not use the Ravnica backgrounds in other settings. And even when using them in Eberron using them would mean being part of that house and would come with story demands to compensate for the added power.
